Tue Aug 20 201318:44Chad Gaudin on DL with carpal tunnel
Giants placed RHP Chad Gaudin on the 15-day disabled list, retroactive to August 17, with carpal tunnel syndrome.
It's not clear at this point how long the ailment will sideline Gaudin. Barry Zito will re-enter the rotation in the meantime and starts on Wednesday against the Red Sox.

Fri Aug 16 201322:57Chad Gaudin knocked around by Marlins
Chad Gaudin was knocked around in a no-decision against the Marlins on Friday, allowing eight runs on 11 hits over his four-plus innings.
Gaudin struck out five while issuing four free passes in the game. He was staked to a 7-0 lead after two innings, but was unable to keep the Marlins offense at bay as they struck for four in the third, one in the fourth and three more in the fifth before chasing Gaudin. Even with this atrocity, he still owns a stellar 3.06 ERA, 1.25 WHIP and 88/40 K/BB ratio through 97 innings on the season. He'll try to put this one behind him when he takes on the Red Sox at home on Wednesday.

Sat Aug 10 201319:16Gaudin goes five strong, Giants beat Orioles
Chad Gaudin allowed one (unearned) run over five innings Saturday in the Giants' 3-2 win over the Orioles.
Gaudin was left with a no-decision because the Giants didn't take the lead until the bottom of the sixth inning. The right-hander was yet again superb, yielding only two hits while striking out six. He's been a great story so far and should be able to keep it rolling next week against the Marlins in Miami.

Tue Aug 6 201301:39Gaudin earns 2nd quality start in a row
Chad Gaudin turned in his second consecutive quality start on Monday, tossing 6 1/3 innings of one-run ball in a 4-2 win over the Brewers.
He struck out eight, allowing four hits and four walks. The resurgent hurler has come back from obscurity (or, more accurately, mediocrity) to post a 2.56 ERA and 1.15 WHIP over 88 innings. He'll get a stiff test this weekend against the Orioles.

Wed Jul 31 201322:58Gaudin holds Phillies in check
Chad Gaudin spun seven innings of one-run ball in Wednesday's 9-2 win over the Phillies.
Gaudin served up a solo shot to Chase Utley in the first inning, but the Phils could only muster three singles and a walk after that. The righty struck out five on the night. It's a nice rebound outing for Gaudin, who struggled last week against the Reds. He boasts a 2.64 ERA for the season and is likely to keep his rotation spot over Barry Zito after Ryan Vogelsong returns. Gaudin gets the Brewers at home next.

Thu Jul 25 201301:56Gaudin hammered for six runs on seven hits
Chad Gaudin was hammered for six runs on seven hits and five walks over 3 2/3 innings in a blowout loss to the Reds on Wednesday.
Let the record show that Gaudin was 4-1 with a 2.15 ERA at sunrise on July 24, because we expect this evening's performance is only the beginning of Gaudin's steep regression to come. Only NL-only owners should consider starting Gaudin next week in Philadelphia.

Sat Jul 20 201301:27Chad Gaudin combines on shutout of D'backs
Chad Gaudin struck out eight in seven innings and combined with five relievers on a shutout of the Diamondbacks on Friday.
Yes, Bruce Bochy needed five relievers to get through two innings. Four relievers combined to face six batters in the eighth before Sergio Romo came in and pitched the ninth in a 2-0 win. It's likely the same result would have materialized had Bochy not tried to get so cute. For one thing, he could have just left Gaudin in. The right-hander was at 92 pitches through seven before being replaced by a pinch-hitter. He's 4-0 as a starter this year, and he's allowed a total of three runs in 20 innings this month.

Sat Jul 13 201302:06Chad Gaudin picks up win over Padres
Chad Gaudin pitched five innings of one-run ball Friday in a victory over the Padres.
Gaudin was kept in the Giants rotation following a revelation that he was charged with open and gross lewdness in Las Vegas during the offseason. He's 3-1 with a 2.39 ERA this season, so bad egg or not, the Giants can't afford to do without him right now.

Wed Jul 10 201315:34Giants' Chad Gaudin charged with lewdness
Chad Gaudin was charged with one count of open and gross lewdness after allegedly groping a woman who was on a hospital gurney in Las Vegas.
Gaudin was arrested by Las Vegas police on January 27, though the rest was not made public until now. The 30-year-old, who was also allegedly intoxicated, had to be held down by hospital security until police arrived. He later told police that he wasn't sure how he ended up at the hospital.

Chad Gaudin gave up just one run on four hits over seven innings in Sunday's loss to the Dodgers.
He only allowed one walk and finished with nine strikeouts. Gaudin didn't factor in the decision, but it was easily his most effective outing of the season. He'll look to stay on track in his next start Friday against the Padres

Gaudin was able to play catch Monday, but he's yet to throw off a mound since taking a comebacker off the elbow in his last start. It doesn't sound like a disabled list situation, but Mike Kickham has joined the club in L.A. and is expected to get the ball Tuesday.

Sat Jun 22 201320:09Chad Gaudin (elbow) still not able to throw
Chad Gaudin (elbow) wasn't able to play catch on Saturday and may be doubtful for his next start.
Gaudin is still dealing with a bruise as a consequence of getting hit by a comebacker in his last start. The big test will be Sunday when he's scheduled to throw a bullpen. If he's unable to, the Giants will almost certainly need to find another option to make Gaudin's Tuesday start.

Chad Gaudin (elbow) is questionable for his next start Tuesday against the Dodgers.

Fri Jun 21 201308:42X-rays on Chad Gaudin's arm are negative
X-rays on Chad Gaudin's right arm came back negative.
Gaudin was injured in Thursday's game when a line drive caught his pitching arm. We'll have to see how he recovers over the next few days, but the right-hander seems to think he'll be fine for his next start. "It's all muscle and tissue so ... work it out, get back out there," he said.
