RHP Evan Scribner was acquired by the Mariners from the A's on Tuesday in exchange for minor league RHP Trey Cochran-Gill.Scribner, 30, went 2-2 with a 4.35 ERA in 54 relief appearances for Oakland this year. He struck out 64 and walked just four in 60 innings, giving him a 16-to-1 strikeout-to-walk ratio that led major league relievers.

Scribner was placed on the 60-day disabled list Thursday.

Scribner was already ruled out for the remainder of the season, so the move was made to open up a spot on the 40-man roster for the newly-acquired Daniel Coulombe. Scribner will continue rehabbing to return for spring training in 2016.

Scribner started the season very well and sat with an ERA of 2.20 through the first two months of the season. Since June 1st, Scribner has been a disaster with an ERA of 6.32 and 11 homers allowed in 31.1 innings. Assuming the lat injury is healed, Scribner will compete for a job in the A's pen next spring.

Scribner is dealing with a scapula issue and will see a doctor Tuesday, MLB.com's Jane Lee reports.

With the A's out of contention, Scribner will not pitch again this season unless everything checks out with his shoulder. His 4.35 ERA isn't very impressive, but his 2.79 xFIP and 64:4 K:BB ratio over 60 innings suggest that there might be something more in the profile.

Scribner struggled on Friday, allowing three earned runs over his two innings.

Scribner continued to struggle with home runs, allowing two-run shots to Nelson Cruz and Brad Miller. He has now allowed nine homers in only 42 innings. After a great start to the season that saw his ERA sitting at 2.20 through May, Scribner has now allowed 10 earned runs in his last 13.1 innings. He was once thought to be the next in line to close if Tyler Clippard is dealt, but now one would think he would be part of a committee at best with his current form.

Scribner took the loss after giving up two runs on two hits and recorded just one out after entering the game in the eighth inning Friday night.

A pair of solo homers from Mike Trout and Kole Calhoun put the Angels on top, snatching a win away from A's starter Jesse Chavez in the process. Overall, Scribner has been one of the best arms in an otherwise disappointing Oakland bullpen, having posted a 37:3 K:BB, 3.21 ERA and 0.98 WHIP over 33.2 innings this season.

Scribner pitched a scoreless ninth inning on Tuesday night, striking out the side.

Scribner has pitched very well to start the season, allowing only two runs in 12.1 innings, good for a 1.46 ERA. His K/BB ratio so far this season stands at a spectacular 14/1. His good work has caught the eye of the A's coaches and Scribner has recently been working in higher leverage situation and is currently the primary right-handed setup man in front of closer Tyler Clippard.

Scribner was recalled from Triple-A Sacramento on Saturday.

Scriber will return for his fourth stint with the major league team this season, replacing Drew Pomeranz on the active roster, and he should remain with the big club the rest of the way. In 40 appearances with Sacramento this season, Scribner posted a 3.06 ERA and 1.02 WHIP, while holding opponents to a .158 average in 11 post All-Star break appearances. He also fanned 72 in 47 innings, so it's entirely possible he could work himself into the setup mix eventually.

Scribner was optioned to Triple-A Sacramento on Saturday.

The A's announced Friday that Scribner had been designated for assignment, but it seems there was some sort of miscommunication, as the team is now saying the right-hander was simply optioned. Scriber will return to Sacramento, where he's posted a 3.35 ERA, 1.11 WHIP and 13.6 K/9 in 31 appearances this season, but he should be up no later than Sept. 1.

This likely wasn't an easy decision for GM Billy Beane, as Scibner has posted a 3.35 ERA and 57 strikeouts in 37.2 innings with Triple-A Sacramento this season, but the team needed to clear spots for trade acquisitions Jon Lester and Sam Fuld. Scribner is 29 and hasn't had a ton of success at the major league level, but he'll likely garner some interest while on waivers.
