OF Socrates Brito was optioned to Triple-A Reno on Monday when the Diamondbacks called up RHP Tyler Wagner, Brito, 23, hit .226/.226/.387 with one homer and two RBIs in 10 games for Arizona this season.

CF Socrates Brito, 23, hit his first major league homer of reigning NL Cy Young winner Cubs RHP Jake Arrieta to tie the game at 3 in the fifth inning Sunday, taking a slider into the right-field stands. "He's a good ballplayer," Arizona manager Chip Hale said. "You don't realize how young he is, the game comes easy to him." Brito started three of the first seven games in center field after CF A.J. Pollock suffered a right elbow injury three days before the start of the regular season.

OF Socrates Brito was 1-for-4 with a single in his first major league start in center field Tuesday. "I wanted to give Brito a start, especially against a right-handed pitcher," manager Chip Hale said. Brito, who made his first opening day roster, made five starts in right field as a September call-up in 2015 and was inserted into left field as a defensive replacement Monday. The D-backs will use a platoon Brito with IF/OF Chris Owings in center field early in the season.

OF Socrates Brito showed tools and aptitude during a September recall last year, and he appears to have the skill set to be a starting major league right fielder. All he needs is experience. He is capable of defending all three outfield spots and figures to open the season as the fourth outfielder. If Yasmany Tomas struggles, Brito will be the first man in.

Brito filled in for an injured David Peralta and went 3-for-3 with a triple, an RBI, a steal and two runs scored in a win over the Rockies on Thursday.

David Peralta was removed with a right wrist injury and Brito filled in spectacularly. Aside from having one of the best names in baseball, Socrates Brito had some good numbers at lower levels and shows some nice upside for coming seasons. He's a good average source with some pop and has the ability to swipe some bags. Over his last four games, Brito is 6-for-10 with two doubles and a triple.

Brito was a late insertion into Wednesday's lineup against the Rockies.

Brito will take over for Ender Inciarte after he was scratched with a right shin contusion. He'll start in right field and lead off for the Diamondbacks against the Rockies and starter Chad Bettis.

Brito got his first start in the majors Wednesday, playing right field, and went 1-for-3 in a win over the Giants.

Brito should get into a few more games in during his cup of coffee this fall with the Diamondbacks, including potentially as a pinch runner where he can show off his speed. He doesn't have a big power profile, but his speed and defense could make him a decent fourth or fifth outfielder -- unfortunately, the D-backs' cupboards are well stocked with outfielders at the moment, making it unclear what his future path to the majors will be.

Brito was recalled from Double-A Mobile on Tuesday.

His numbers mostly improved with the jump up from High-A this season, as he hit .300/.339/.451 while trimming more than three percent off his strikeout rate (to 16.1%). Brito's stolen base total fell from 38 to 20, but the 23-year-old's speed, contact skills and ability to play all three outfield spots were enough to warrant an audition in a bench role with the big club over the final weeks of the season.

Brito was selected to play in the Futures Game during the all-star break in Cincinnati.

Brito is not really one of the D-Backs top prospects and he has struggled a bit at Double-A Mobile, posting a .263/.290/.378 line with two home runs and eight stolen bases through 272 plate appearances. He is still just 22-years-old and has shown some potential, especially with his speed, which he used to steal 38 bases at High-A last year.

Brito was optioned to Double-A Mobile on Friday, Nick Piecoro of The Arizona Republic reports.

Brito spent all of 2014 with High-A Visalia, posting a .293/.339/.429 slash line, along with 10 home runs and 38 stolen bases in 128 games. While an excellent athlete, the 22-year-old outfielder isn't quite viewed as one of Diamondbacks' top prospects, as he still needs significant work with the bat.

Brito added muscle this offseason and checked in at 216 pounds at the start of spring training this week, the Arizona Republic reports.

The left-handed hitting outfielder has always been considered one of the organization's better athletes in the system. Brito flashed a nice power-speed combo at High-A Visalia in 2014, hitting 10 home runs and stealing 38 bases, but he'll need to prove that he can handle Double-A pitching in order to make a significant push up the organizational prospect list.
