Sat Sep 1413:18Antonio Senzatela Expected To Be Activated Off IL, Make Season Debut On Monday
Colorado Rockies starting pitcher Antonio Senzatela (elbow) is expected to be activated off the IL on Monday and make the start for the Rockies in their series opener against the Arizona Diamondbacks. Senzatela has been rehabbing from Tommy John surgery and hasn't pitched in a Major League game since May of 2023. In his rehab assignments he has pitched to a 5.29 ERA in 17 innings while striking out 18 batters with a 1.176 WHIP. While the 18 strikeouts show a significant increase over Senzatela's normal strikeout numbers (career 5.97 K/9) it should be noted he didn't face above Double-A competition in his rehab assignments. His return will be more significant to the Rockies more than it will for fantasy managers. Senzatela will likely be on a short leash in his debut on Monday in his return, especially considering that current Diamondback batters have hit for a .432 wOBA against him in 148 PA. Fantasy managers and DFS managers alike should avoid Senzatela in his return and wait to see what 2025 brings for the 29-year-old.

Mon Aug 2620:07Antonio Senzatela Moving Rehab To Double-A
Colorado Rockies right-hander Antonio Senzatela (elbow) tossed three scoreless innings for High-A Spokane in his second minor-league rehab outing on Friday, giving up two hits and striking out four against Hillsboro. Manager Bud Black said that Senzatela's next outing will be for Double-A Hartford during the week of Aug. 25. In his two outings with Spokane, the 29-year-old went a total of 5 1/3 innings, so he still has some work to do to get stretched out before he's a realistic option to make several starts for the Rockies at the big-league level to close out the year. Senzatela has never been much of a fantasy asset in mixed fantasy leagues, and that isn't going to suddenly change in the final month of the 2024 season, especially after coming off Tommy John surgery. Keep him on the waiver wire.

Mon Aug 512:30Antonio Senzatela Likely To Start Rehab Assignment On Thursday
Colorado Rockies right-hander Antonio Senzatela (elbow) threw 28 pitches from his entire arsenal during an up-and-down simulated game on Saturday in San Diego. Manager Bud Black said that Senzatela is set to begin a minor-league rehab assignment in the rookie-level Arizona Complex League, likely on Thursday, Aug. 8. It will be his first game action since May 10 of last year after he had Tommy John surgery. "I'm super excited," Senzatela said. "It's been a long year, almost two long years." The 29-year-old is getting closer to rejoining the Rockies' starting rotation, but he still is going to need a lengthy rehab assignment and probably won't be an option in Colorado until the final month of the season. The Venezuelan hurler has never had much fantasy upside in his seven big-league seasons, though, with a career 4.87 ERA, 1.44 WHIP and 15.3% strikeout rate.

Fri Jul 1923:07Antonio Senzatela Nearing Live Batting Practice
Colorado Rockies right-hander Antonio Senzatela (elbow) threw a bullpen session on Friday and is nearing his first live batting practice session. The Rockies aren't trying to rush Senzatela back into their starting rotation as he recovers from Tommy John surgery that he had a year ago, but there's no denying that the 29-year-old is getting closer to making his return to the big leagues in the second half of 2024. At best, he could become a starting option for fantasy managers in NL-only leagues down the stretch, but fantasy managers in mixed formats can probably find safer options. The Venezuelan hurler has been extremely mediocre in his seven seasons in the big leagues after debuting in 2017, posting a 4.87 ERA (4.41 FIP) and 1.44 WHIP with a well below-average 15.3% strikeout rate in 679 2/3 innings over 145 outings (119 starts) for the Rockies.

Tue Jul 912:52Rockies Slow-Playing Antonio Senzatela's Rehab
The Colorado Rockies are sticking with the plan to keep right-hander Antonio Senzatela (elbow) from pushing to quicken his return from Tommy John surgery last July. The team brought him to Cincinnati for the current road trip, but they are limiting him to bullpen sessions. Facing hitters will come later. The Rockies believe a September return from the 60-day injured list is, according to manager Bud Black, "reasonable." The 29-year-old started incorporating some breaking pitches into his bullpen session last Tuesday, so he's slowly making progress. Obviously, with a September timeline, fantasy managers shouldn't be expecting anything of Senzatela in 2024. The Venezuelan hurler has a 4.87 ERA and 1.44 WHIP with weak 15.3% strikeout rate in his seven years in the big leagues with the Rockies.

Wed Jul 320:31Antonio Senzatela Mixing In Offspeed Pitches
Colorado Rockies right-hander Antonio Senzatela (elbow) threw a bullpen session on Tuesday and started mixing in more of his pitches as part of his progression in his rehab from Tommy John surgery. "It was fastball, changeup, so that's another step. The next step after this is probably another bullpen or two throwing all his pitches and then he'll face some hitters. I don't know the exact timeline, but he'll be facing our hitters in a simulated-type situation on the field without a protective screen. That might happen on that road trip, we'll see. But he's doing great," manager Bud Black. The skipper added that a September return for Senzatela was "reasonable." If the 29-year-old makes his return in 2024, he's not going to make much of an impact for fantasy managers and can likely be avoided in redraft leagues.

Mon Jun 320:21Antonio Senzatela Could Throw Off A Mound Soon
Colorado Rockies manager Bud Black said last Friday that right-hander Antonio Senzatela (elbow) could be "going to the mound next week" for a bullpen session in front of the major-league coaching staff. Senzatela was with the team in Los Angeles for their series over the weekend against the Dodgers and will stay in Denver when the team departs its next home series against the Cincinnati Reds for stops in St. Louis and Minneapolis. The 29-year-old resumed throwing long toss in early May and is now close to taking the next step in his recovery from Tommy John surgery. There's a chance that Senzatela could be making minor-league rehab starts by the end of the 2024 season, but fantasy managers in deeper leagues shouldn't be expecting to have him available until the start of next season.

Mon May 622:37Antonio Senzatela Throwing Long Toss Up To 120 Feet
Colorado Rockies right-hander Antonio Senzatela (elbow) is throwing long toss up to 120 feet and joined the team in Miami last week and traveled to Pittsburgh this week as a change of pace during his rehab work. The Rockies are counting on Senzatela to pitch next season, but he expects to make some minor-league rehab appearances this August and "hopefully pitch a game in September." His recovery has been going smoothly, but obviously he's not fantasy relevant at all in 2024. The 29-year-old Venezuelan starter went 3-7 last year with a 5.07 ERA (4.05 FIP), 1.69 WHIP, 23 walks and 54 strikeouts in 92 1/3 innings over 19 starts for the Rockies in 2023. Senzatela hasn't been much of a mixed-league fantasy asset in his seven-year MLB career with a 4.87 ERA and weak 6.0 K/9.

Wed Feb 2815:12Rockies Place Antonio Senzatela On 60-Day Injured List
To make room for the recently acquired outfielder Sam Hilliard on the 40-man roster, the Colorado Rockies placed right-hander Antonio Senzatela (elbow) on the 60-day injured list on Wednesday. Senzatela had Tommy John surgery and is expected to miss the entire 2024 season, so he's completely off the fantasy radar. The 29-year-old Venezuelan pitcher was only able to make two starts last season before being shut down with his elbow injury, and he allowed four earned runs on seven hits (three homers) while walking two and striking out four in his 7 2/3 innings pitched. Senzatela hasn't been much to look at from a fantasy perspective in his seven-year big-league career, posting a 4.87 ERA and 1.44 WHIP with 209 walks and 451 strikeouts in 679 2/3 total innings.

Fri Jul 14 202319:41Antonio Senzatela Needs Tommy John Surgery
After a setback last weekend in San Francisco, Colorado Rockies right-hander Antonio Senzatela (elbow) will require Tommy John surgery, according to manager Bud Black. Senzatela will now be unable to return this year and will also likely miss most, if not all, of the 2024 campaign. The 28-year-old initially landed on the injured list on May 12 with a sprained UCL in his right elbow. Before the injury, he had gone 0-1 with a 4.70 ERA (8.11 FIP), 1.17 WHIP, two walks and four strikeouts in 7 2/3 innings over only two starts. Any fantasy managers that were still hanging onto Senzatela in very deep redraft leagues can now officially send him to the waiver wire safely.

Fri May 5 202315:59Antonio Senzatela Activated For Debut On Friday
The Colorado Rockies announced on Friday that they activated right-hander Antonio Senzatela (knee) from the 15-day injured list and also activated catcher Austin Wynns to the 26-man roster. In corresponding moves, catcher Brian Serven was optioned to Triple-A Albuquerque and outfielder Yonathan Daza was designated for assignment. Senzatela will be making his season debut on Friday against the New York Mets after tearing his left ACL last August. The 28-year-old gave up seven runs on 13 hits in 6 1/3 innings in two minor-league rehab starts and faces a tough matchup on the road in his 2023 debut, so fantasy managers should probably avoid this start. As with most Rockies pitchers, Senzatela will mostly be a streaming option in deeper leagues on the road against weaker opponents.

Mon Apr 24 202314:14Antonio Senzatela To Make Rehab Start Tuesday
Colorado Rockies right-hander Antonio Senzatela's (knee) first minor-league rehab outing for Double-A Hartford on Sunday was rained out. He will now make his first rehab start for Triple-A Albuquerque on Tuesday on the road. Senzatela had surgery to fix a torn ACL in his left knee last August, and he's still working his way back for the Rockies. The 28-year-old won't be rushed back to the major leagues, so you should expect him to have at least a handful of rehab starts in the minors before Colorado is comfortable activating him from the injured list. Senzatela made 19 starts for the team in 2022, going 3-7 with a 5.07 ERA (4.05 FIP), 1.69 WHIP and career-low-tying 13.1 percent strikeout rate in 92 1/3 innings.

Wed Apr 5 202300:50Antonio Senzatela Could Throw Live BP By Mid-April
Colorado Rockies manager Bud Black said Tuesday that starting pitcher Antonio Senzatela (knee) could progress to live batting practice by the second week of April. The right-hander is recovering from a left ACL injury suffered in August of last season. While he has not suffered any setbacks, there is no exact timetable for his return. Senzatela has never been a great fantasy option given that he pitches his home games at Coors Field and has a career 4.88 ERA, 1.45 WHIP, and 15.3% strikeout rate.

Fri Aug 19 202216:50Antonio Senzatela Suffers Torn ACL
Colorado Rockies starting pitcher Antonio Senzatela (knee) tore his left ACL when he was forced to exit his start early on Thursday against the St. Louis Cardinals. Senzatela was officially placed on the injured list on Friday and will miss the rest of the season. There's also a good chance that the 27-year-old right-hander won't be ready for the start of the 2023 regular season. He'll finish his 2022 campaign with a 3-7 record, a 5.07 ERA (4.06 FIP), a 1.69 WHIP and an underwhelming 54:23 K:BB in 92 1/3 innings pitched over his 19 starts. Senzatela wasn't much of a fantasy option in mixed leagues and can now safely be dropped by anyone that still had him rostered in deeper formats.

Thu Aug 18 202216:43Antonio Senzatela Exits With Sprained Knee
Colorado Rockies starting pitcher Antonio Senzatela suffered a left knee sprain during Thursday's blowout loss against the St. Louis Cardinals, according to Patrick Saunders of the Denver Post. The right-hander will undergo an MRI on Friday. "Devastating," manager Bud Black told Saunders when describing Senzatela's latest obstacle. "Crossing our fingers, for sure." The 27-year-old allowed five runs, six hits, and zero walks through 1.2 innings before exiting. He is 3-7 with a 5.07 ERA, 1.69 WHIP, and .349 OBA through 19 starts this season. He also owns 5.26 K/9 and 2.24 BB/9 to this point.

Sat Jul 30 202218:19Rockies Holding Onto Kyle Freeland, Antonio Senzatela, German Marquez,
The Colorado Rockies are reportedly set to hold onto starting pitchers Kyle Freeland, Antonio Senzatela, and German Marquez. This news comes on the heels of earlier news that the Rockies were extending closer Daniel Bard and not planning to trade first baseman C.J. Cron. The Rockies obviously think they are very close to competing and want to keep their top assets around. For Rockies fans, this news may sting a bit as just last season the Rockies kept Trevor Story around only for him to walk in free agency. Fortunately, all the players the Rockies are reportedly keeping this season are under contract at least through next year. For the three starters, this news means their fantasy value remains limited to streamer option only.

Wed Jul 27 202221:46Antonio Senzatela Exits Wednesday's Start Early
Colorado Rockies right-hander Antonio Senzatela (foot) was removed from Wednesday's start against the White Sox after being hit by a comebacker on the left foot in the top of the seventh inning. The right-hander was checked out but the trainers before being removed from the game. He allowed three runs on eight hits and one walk while striking out five across 6 2/3 innings. The severity of his foot injury is unknown at this time and is considered day-to-day. Senzatela recently returned to action after spending time on the injured list with a shoulder injury. It's unclear if Senzatela will make his next scheduled start; stay tuned.

Wed Jul 20 202211:20Antonio Senzatela To Start Friday Against Brewers
Colorado Rockies right-hander Antonio Senzatela (shoulder) is slated to come off the 15-day injured list to start the team's first game of the second half of the season on Friday against the Milwaukee Brewers. The Rockies gave Senzatela a little extra rest over the All-Star break, so he should be ready to go this Friday, but that doesn't necessarily make him a worthy fantasy streamer. The 27-year-old made two minor league rehab starts for Triple-A Albuquerque, allowing five earned runs on 12 hits while walking two and striking out none in nine innings. He had just 34 strikeouts in 60 innings pitched over 13 starts in the first half, to go along with a 4.95 ERA and 1.80 WHIP, so there's very limited fantasy upside here.

Mon Jul 4 202218:52Antonio Senzatela Throws From 110 Feet
Colorado Rockies right-hander Antonio Senzatela (shoulder) stated on Monday that his shoulder is feeling "really good." He also added that he threw from 110 feet on Monday. The 27-year-old was placed on the 15-day injured list with right shoulder inflammation on Saturday. The move came after he left his start against the Arizona Diamondbacks after just two innings this past Friday. It's certainly encouraging to see that Senzatela is already throwing just two days after the move to the injured list, suggesting there's a good chance he'll only need the minimum stay on the injured list. The veteran has made 13 starts this year and he's gone 3-5 with a 4.95 ERA and a 1.80 WHIP.

Tue May 31 202211:37Antonio Senzatela To Start Wednesday Against Marlins
Colorado Rockies right-hander Antonio Senzatela (back) will return from the injured list and start on Wednesday against the Miami Marlins. Senzatela strained his lower back on April 16 against the Los Angeles Dodgers and was put on the injured list. He allowed four runs on eight hits in four innings of a minor league rehab assignment with Triple-A Albuquerque last Friday, but the main thing is that Senzatela is healthy. The 27-year-old Venezuelan hurler isn't the best fantasy asset, though, as he's only struck out 11 hitters in 29 2/3 innings over seven starts for the Rockies this year. Senzatela has a 4.55 ERA and 1.89 WHIP and has a career K/9 of just 6.0 in six major league seasons.
