Fri Aug 200:50Ryan Helsley Falls Apart In Blown Save
St. Louis Cardinals closer Ryan Helsley had a rare off night on Thursday, allowing three runs on four hits to blow the save and take the loss in a 5-4 defeat at the hands of the Chicago Cubs. The fireballer allowed a one-out solo homer to Cody Bellinger and then unraveled after he recorded the second out, giving up three hits including a walk-off two-run double to pinch-hitter Mike Tauchman. All of Helsley's pitch data looked good in this one, so it's probably just a blip on the radar. He has been fantastic this year and leads the MLB with 33 saves, so it's tough to complain about one bad outing.

He currently has the most saves in baseball and should continue to provide top fantasy value in the second half, especially if the Cardinals continue to play well.

Sat Jul 2012:25Ryan Helsley Dealing With Hip Tightness
St. Louis Cardinals manager Oliver Marmol said the reason closer Ryan Helsley (hip) declined to pitch in the All-Star game earlier this week was due to nagging hip tightness. Helsley alerted the team to the pain, and they decided it would be better for him to rest up for the second half of the season. The Cardinals' series opener on Friday against the hosting Atlanta Braves was postponed due to inclement weather, but Helsley is available to pitch for Saturday's doubleheader. It's something worth watching for the lockdown 30-year-old closer in the second half of the season, but fantasy managers obviously need to keep him in their starting lineups. Helsley made his second All-Star team this year by recording a league-high 32 saves to go along with a 2.36 ERA and 1.17 WHIP with 48 strikeouts and 17 walks in 42 innings out of the bullpen.

Mon Jul 1519:04Ryan Helsley Unlikely To Pitch In All-Star Game
St. Louis Cardinals closer Ryan Helsley said that he's unlikely to pitch in the All-Star game on Tuesday and instead wants to take a break so that he's well-rested for the start of the second half of the season on Friday. As a result, Washington Nationals closer Kyle Finnegan will take Helsley's place on the National League roster. Helsley isn't injured at all but just wants to monitor his workload after throwing 42 innings in the first half. The 29-year-old has been brilliant in 2024 and leads the league with a career-high 32 saves, but he's on pace to easily set a new career-high in innings pitched, with his previous career-high in innings in the majors coming in 2022 (64 2/3). Along with his league-leading 32 saves, Helsley has a 2.36 ERA, a 1.17 WHIP and 48 K's and has become an elite fantasy closer.

Despite the Cardinals' disappointing season, he is now tied for the most saves in the league with Emmanuel Clase. Helsley should continue to be a high-end fantasy option, especially if he can continue to limit his walks.

Managers should continue to enjoy rostering one of the best closers in the game, but also be aware that the Cardinals could be sellers as the season progresses. If Helsley were to be dealt., Andrew Kittredge and Giovanni Gallegos would likely be the next men up for saves.

The 29-year-old is fully entrenched as the club's closer, but fantasy managers in holds leagues or those looking to have insurance on Helsley should consider Giovanny Gallegos or Andrew Kittredge. Fri Apr 503:23Ryan Helsley Slams Door On Marlins
St. Louis Cardinals closer Ryan Helsley threw a scoreless ninth inning to pick up his second save of the season in an 8-5 win over the Miami Marlins. Helsley didn't allow a baserunner and struck out one. Maybe most importantly for Helsley, the velocity on his four-seamer was back up to 99.6 after being down a little bit from last season in his last few appearances. He should be back to his dominant self if he can keep the velocity up, and seems to be the clear-cut closer in St. Louis.

Wed Apr 300:55Ryan Helsley Earns Save Tuesday
St. Louis Cardinals relief pitcher Ryan Helsley earned his first save of the season in Tuesday's 5-2 win over the Padres. Helsley came in to pitch the bottom of the ninth inning up by three. He allowed a leadoff single but got two strikeouts and a pop-out to end the game. The 29-year-old has now turned in two consecutive clean innings after a rough first outing, bringing his ERA to 6.00 with four strikeouts in three innings of work. Fantasy managers should keep an eye out for any further developments, as Giovanny Gallegos has closing experience, but Helsley should be the first choice for save opportunities as long as he continues to trend in the right direction.

Sun Mar 3111:20Ryan Helsley Blows Save Chance Saturday
St. Louis Cardinals closer Ryan Helsley blew a save opportunity in Saturday's 6-5 win over the Dodgers. Helsley came on in the bottom of the ninth with the Cardinals up 5-3, but the 29-year-old allowed a home run to Mookie Betts and, after getting Shohei Ohtani to strike out, three straight singles to knot the game at five runs apiece. It was the first regular season appearance in 2024 for Helsley, so certainly not the way he wanted to get things started, but there should be brighter days ahead for the Cards' closer. The righty had a 2.45 ERA and saved 14 games for St. Louis last season and should be a top option at closer in fantasy leagues in 2024. It's worth noting that Giovanny Gallegos picked up the save in the tenth inning and would presumably be in line for the role if Helsley continued to falter.
