Wed Sep 1818:14Luis Arraez Absent On Wednesday
San Diego Padres infielder Luis Arraez (knee) is out of the starting lineup ahead of Wednesday's game against the Houston Astros. Arraez suffered a knee injury during Monday's contest, but he was back in the lineup on Tuesday. Possibly, Arraez suffered a setback or this is a routine rest day against a tough left-handed pitcher. It's worth noting that Arraez had started in each of the last 15 games prior to Wednesday's contest. Jake Cronenworth will cover second base and bat seventh versus lefty Framber Valdez. Cronenworth is hitting under .200 against left-handers this season, so he can be avoided as a streaming option on Wednesday.

Tue Sep 1712:01Luis Arraez Dealing With Knee Injury
San Diego Padres first baseman/designated hitter Luis Arraez (knee) jammed his right knee sliding into home plate in Monday night's win over the visiting Houston Astros, but he said it is just inflammation. Arraez thinks he'll be ready to go on Tuesday, but he needs to wait and see. The 27-year-old hit machine stayed in the game after sliding into home plate but was replaced by a pinch-runner in the seventh inning after he doubled and hobbled into second base. Before leaving, he had two hits in four at-bats to extend his hitting streak to 14 games. Arraez also snapped a string of 141 straight plate appearances without a strikeout on Monday when he fanned early in the game. The Venezuelan has very little power (four homers) or speed (nine steals), but he's an elite contact hitter who is now batting .323 (194-for-601) on the year. Consider Arraez to be day-to-day for now.

Tue Sep 1700:31Luis Arraez Removed Early On Monday
San Diego Padres first baseman/designated hitter Luis Arraez (undisclosed) looked to be shaken up after being thrown out at the plate while trying to score on Jurickson Profar's single on Monday night at Petco Park against the Houston Astros and appeared to be favoring his right leg. Arraez batted for himself in the seventh inning, doubled and hobbled to second base. With something clearly still bothering him, Tyler Wade was sent in to pinch run for Arraez. The 27-year-old appeared to be dealing with some sort of lower-body injury, possibly his knee, but he should be considered day-to-day for now until we know more specifics about his ailment. Before leaving, he went 2-for-4 with a strikeout to extend his hitting streak to 14 games while also striking out in the third inning to snap a stretch of 141 plate appearances without a strikeout. The Venezuelan remains an elite contact and average guy (.322) for the Friars.

Sat Aug 2400:52Luis Arraez Swats Rare Homer In Win
San Diego Padres first baseman Luis Arraez hit a rare home run in Friday night's easy win over the visiting New York Mets at Petco Park, going deep for just the fourth time this season in the victory. Before tacking on an RBI single in the third inning of Friday's rout against New York, Arraez gave the Padres an early 1-0 lead with a solo homer to ambush Mets right-hander Paul Blackburn in the opening frame. The 27-year-old All-Star contact specialist hasn't been quite as good as he was when he won the National League batting title in 2023, but he's still batting a strong .309 (117-for-379) with four long balls, 31 RBI, 45 runs scored, and six stolen bases in 88 outings since joining San Diego earlier this season.

Sat Aug 1012:22Luis Arraez Dealing With Torn Ligament In His Thumb
San Diego Padres first baseman/designated hitter Luis Arraez (thumb) revealed after Friday's extra-inning win over the Miami Marlins that he's been playing with a torn ligament in his left thumb. Arraez was examined by a doctor during the All-Star break and was told he could continue playing with the torn ligament, according to a source. It helps explain why the 27-year-old two-time batting champion sat out this year's All-Star game. The Venezuelan hitter is still hitting just over .300 on the season as a whole, but since the All-Star break, he's gone 18-for-70 (.257) with a homer, four doubles, six RBI, a stolen base and eight runs scored in 16 games played. Arraez doesn't do a whole lot for fantasy managers besides carry a high average, and his thumb injury could compromise his ability to rack up the hits the rest of the way in 2024.

Fri Jul 1916:17Luis Arraez Returns To Action On Friday
San Diego Padres infielder Luis Arraez (thumb) is serving as the designated hitter and is batting in his customary leadoff spot on Friday as he takes on the hosting Cleveland Guardians and right-hander Tanner Bibee to start the second half of the season. Arraez didn't miss any time to close out the first half of the season despite dealing with a jammed left thumb, but he did skip this week's All-Star festivities to rest up. He's still one of the best contact and average hitters in the game, but Arraez has hit just .268 (11-for-41) with a double and two RBI in 10 games so far in the month of July, and his thumb injury will be worth watching as we begin the second half. Overall, though, the 27-year-old Venezuelan has a strong .310 average (122-for-394) and .342 on-base percentage for fantasy managers, but it has come with just two homers, 24 RBI and three steals.

Sun Jul 1419:38Luis Arraez Won't Participate In All-Star Game
San Diego Padres second baseman Luis Arraez (thumb) will not participate in the upcoming All-Star Game next week. The 27-year-old was held out on Sunday and appears to be dealing with a minor thumb issue. He's not going to take any chances and has decided to pull himself out of the contest. Fantasy managers shouldn't need to worry as it sounds like a minor issue. Expect the National League to name a replacement for him soon.

Sun Jul 1413:34Luis Arraez Sitting Out Versus Southpaw
San Diego Padres infielder Luis Arraez is out of the starting lineup ahead of Sunday's game against the Atlanta Braves. Fantasy managers don't need to worry about an injury as this appears to be a matchups decision. In his place, Donovan Solano will serve as the designated hitter and bat second versus left-hander Chris Sale. Fantasy managers should adjust their lineups ahead of first pitch with Arraez taking a seat.

Mon Jun 319:14Luis Arraez Not Playing Monday
San Diego Padres second baseman Luis Arraez (shoulder) is out on Monday for the series opener on the road against the Los Angeles Angels after leaving Sunday's game against the Royals early after a slide into second base. With Arraez on the bench, Jake Cronenworth will shift to second base and bat fifth against Angels left-hander Tyler Anderson. Donovan Solano is at first and is hitting cleanup, while outfielder Jurickson Profar is serving as the designated hitter and is batting leadoff for the Friars. Cronenworth does have a homer but is also hitting just .105 in 19 career at-bats against Anderson. While Profar will have added DFS appeal atop the batting order, he's batting .188 in 16 career at-bats against Anderson. Manager Mike Shildt said the team doesn't think it's anything structural with Arraez and he's just dealing with stiffness and soreness. Shildt wouldn't rule out Arraez being available off the bench, so the two-time batting champ could be back in the starting lineup as soon as Tuesday in Anaheim.

Sun Jun 216:41Luis Arraez Removed From Sunday's Game With Apparent Injury
San Diego Padres first baseman Luis Arraez left Sunday's game against the Kansas City Royals in the sixth inning with an apparent arm injury. It appeared as though Arraez hurt himself in the fifth inning while attempting to slide into second base. It is unclear exactly what the 27-year-old is dealing with at this point, but more information should come out after the game. Padres fans and fantasy managers alike will be hoping his departure was precautionary as Arraez has been a revelation since coming to California. He is slashing .391/.414/.455 with one home run, 12 RBI, 14 runs and three stolen bases across 26 games with the Padres. Donovan Solano would be the likely replacement at first base if Arraez has to miss any time.

Sat Jun 106:45Luis Arraez Picks Up Four Hits Friday
San Diego Padres first baseman Luis Arraez turned in a productive night at the plate in an 11-8 win over the Kansas City Royals on Friday. Arraez went 4-for-5 with three runs and two RBI to help propel the Padres to the win in the high-scoring affair. The veteran infielder has been swinging a hot bat since San Diego acquired him from the Miami Marlins earlier in the season, hitting .398 in 24 games with his new team. Overall, Arraez is batting .342 with one homer, 35 runs, 15 RBI, and three steals in 2024. While he doesn't bring much power to the table, Arraez contributes enough across the other categories to hold plenty of value in fantasy leagues.

Thu May 2300:29Luis Arraez Goes Deep For First Time This Year
San Diego Padres second baseman Luis Arraez slapped his first home run of the year in Wednesday's victory on the road against the Cincinnati Reds, flexing some pop while going 4-for-5 with two RBI in the win. Not known for his power, Arraez got the scoring started on Wednesday with a leadoff homer in the first inning off Reds right-hander Nick Martinez, later adding three singles. The 27-year-old two-time batting champion is now riding a ridiculous seven-game multi-hit streak, hitting .391 (27-for-69) with three doubles, six RBI, eight runs scored, and three stolen bases in 16 games overall since joining San Diego, and he should get more work at second base with Xander Bogaerts (shoulder) on the injured list. Arraez next gets Cincinnati righty Frankie Montas during Thursday's series finale. In six plate appearances against Montas in his career, Arraez is 3-for-6 with a double.

Wed May 1513:36Luis Arraez Out Against Left-Hander
San Diego Padres designated hitter Luis Arraez is not in the starting lineup on Wednesday with the team facing Colorado Rockies left-hander Austin Gomber in the series finale. With Arraez getting a day to rest, Manny Machado is serving as the DH and is hitting cleanup, while Donovan Solano is at third base and batting sixth. Outfielder Jurickson Profar moves back up to the leadoff spot. Arraez is hitting .303 (54-for-178) on the year and is 13-for-41 (.317) with two doubles, no home runs, four RBI, a stolen base and five runs scored in his first 10 games with the Friars. Fantasy managers should expect him back in the lineup on Friday for the series opener in Atlanta against the Braves. Profar, who has been on a heater so far this year with a .324/.416/.520 slash line with a .936 OPS, will have increased DFS value back in the leadoff spot against a pitcher that he's hitting .375 against in his career with two RBI in eight at-bats.

Sat May 1111:49Luis Arraez Hits Walk-Off Single Friday
San Diego Padres designated hitter Luis Arraez went 1-for-4 with a single and an RBI in Friday's 2-1 win over the Dodgers. While he had just one hit, it was a big one, as it came in the bottom of the ninth in a tie ball game and drove in the winning run. It was the perfect ending to his first home game as a Padre. The two-time batting champion is now hitting .311 on the season with a .358 OBP. He'll help fantasy managers in batting average and runs scored (27 runs scored in 2024), but doesn't hit for power and doesn't steal bases. Hopefully there will be more RBI opportunities in San Diego (only seven so far) than there were in Miami.

Tue May 718:28Luis Arraez Absent On Tuesday
San Diego Padres second baseman Luis Arraez (rest) is out of the starting lineup ahead of Tuesday's game against the Chicago Cubs. This appears to be a routine rest day for Arraez against tough left-hander Shota Imanaga. The 27-year-old infielder was acquired by the Padres over the weekend. He has five hits and one RBI since joining the team. In his absence, Xander Bogaerts will cover second base and bat fifth on Tuesday.

Sat May 418:06Luis Arraez In DH Slot And Batting Leadoff In Padres' Debut
Infielder Luis Arraez, acquired by the San Diego Padres for prospects on Friday night from the Miami Marlins, is in the designated hitter slot and is batting leadoff on Saturday night. Arraez is hitting .299 with no home runs, five RBI, and 22 runs in 148 plate appearances this season. Arraez could also see time at first base and second base in San Diego. The Padres face off against right-hander Brandon Pfaadt and the Arizona Diamondbacks on Saturday, and Arraez should be in all starting fantasy lineup. Although he lacks power, the move to a more potent lineup in San Diego is a boost to his fantasy value everywhere.

Sat May 412:00Luis Arraez Traded To Padres
The Miami Marlins and San Diego Padres have agreed to a trade that sends second baseman Luis Arraez to San Diego in exchange for relief pitcher Woo-Suk Go and three prospects. The prospects San Diego is sending to Miami are outfielder Dillon Head, outfielder Jakob Marsee and first baseman Nathan Martorella. Head is the Padres sixth-ranked prospect, Marsee is their No. 9 prospect and Martorella ranks 13th. Suk Go had signed with the Padres over the offseason after playing in the KBO for the last seven years. Arraez and his .299 batting average will rank second-highest on the Padres behind Jurickson Profar. The move signifies the beginning of a rebuild in Miami, while the Padres continue to make moves to try and make noise in the National League West. It's unclear where the Padres plan on inserting Arraez into their lineup and defensive alignment, but he'll most certainly play every day and hit near the top of the batting order. It's a boost to his fantasy value.

Fri May 322:23Marlins Trade Luis Arraez To Padres
The Miami Marlins traded second baseman Luis Arraez to the San Diego Padres in exchange for relief pitcher Woo-Suk Go and three prospects on Friday. The prospects are outfielder Dillon Head, outfielder Jakob Marsee and first baseman Nathan Martorella. Head is the top prize here as the Padres' No. 6 prospect. Marsee ranks as the Padres' No. 9 prospect, and Martorella ranks as their No. 13 prospect. Suk Go has been playing in Double-A San Antonio and was signed in the offseason after playing seven seasons in the KBO. Arraez and his .299 batting average will rank second on the Padres behind Jurickson Profar. The acquisition will create an interesting scenario in San Diego, as struggling second baseman Xander Bogaerts was acquired prior to the 2023 season. With Arraez not having as great a glove as Bogaerts, there is potential that Arraez could spend time at DH while Bogaerts stays set at second base. Either way, Arraez will be a lineup regular in San Diego and should hit at the top of their lineup while sending ... [More]
