Sun Sep 1513:07Cal Quantrill Activated Off Injured List, Set To Start On Sunday
Colorado Rockies starting pitcher Cal Quantrill (triceps) was reinstated off the 15-day injured list and is slated to start Sunday's game against the Chicago Cubs. Quantrill has been sidelined since August due to a triceps injury. In his past four starts, the right-hander posted a 5.40 ERA, 1.60 WHIP, and a 12:13 BB:K ratio. Fantasy managers should expect Quantrill to remain in the rotation for the remainder of the season. He should not be considered in DFS this afternoon as he will face the Chicago Cubs in the hitter-friendly Coors Field.

Sat Sep 1413:07Cal Quantrill Expected To Return From Injured List On Sunday
Colorado Rockies starting pitcher Cal Quantrill (triceps) is expected to be activated off the IL on Sunday and make the start in the series finale against the Chicago Cubs. Quantrill hasn't made a start since August 27th against the Miami Marlins but his return will be welcome for a Rockies rotation that's been dealing with a litany of injuries dating back to 2023. The 29-year-old has pitched to a 4.63 ERA in his first year with the Rockies, though he's been hit significantly harder in the second half of the season (.930 OPS) compared to the first half (.753 OPS). Quantrill's return to the rotation will likely mean much more to the Rockies than it will to fantasy managers given's Quantrill's second half struggles and lack of strikeouts. With the season nearing its end, only managers in deeper leagues that are desperate for help should consider the Rockies' righty. Better options can be found on the waiver wire for those in need.

Mon Sep 216:52Rockies Hope Cal Quantrill Will Return This Year
Colorado Rockies manager Bud Black said that right-hander Cal Quantrill (triceps), who landed on the 15-day injured list over the weekend with right-triceps inflammation, had an MRI exam on Aug. 31 and then received a cortisone shot with the hope that the inflammation calms down and he can make starts at the end of the season in late September. Quantrill is heading into the final year of salary arbitration this offseason and is expected to be a key part of Colorado's starting rotation, so they would like him going into the offseason on a high note. The 29-year-old was scratched from his scheduled start on Sunday at Coors Field against the Baltimore Orioles. Even in deeper fantasy leagues, managers shouldn't be banking on Quantrill's return to close out 2024. Left-hander Ty Blach took Quantrill's rotation spot on Sunday and should stick around in the rotation for the time being.

Sun Sep 112:12Cal Quantrill Scratched With Triceps Inflammation
Colorado Rockies right-hander Cal Quantrill (triceps) has been scratched from his scheduled start on Sunday at Coors Field against the visiting Baltimore Orioles due to right-triceps inflammation. Left-hander Ty Blach will make the start instead. Quantrill would have been a poor streaming option anyway against the Orioles in a hitter-friendly venue. It remains to be seen if the 29-year-old's injury is serious enough to put him on the injured list. He's mostly been inconsistent all year, especially in the second half, and currently has a 4.63 ERA and 1.42 WHIP while striking out 103 and walking a league-high 57 batters in 138 innings over 26 starts in his first year with the Rockies. Blach has been even worse in 18 outings (10 starts), yielding a 6.36 ERA, 1.69 WHIP and only striking out 34 in 63 2/3 frames. Stay away from Blach as a fantasy streamer.

Tue Aug 1312:07Cal Quantrill In Line To Start On Friday
Colorado Rockies right-hander Cal Quantrill (forearm) is listed as the team's probable starting pitcher for Friday's contest against the visiting division-rival San Diego Padres. Quantrill was scratched from his previous scheduled start on Monday against the Arizona Diamondbacks after he felt some right-forearm soreness after his previous start on Aug. 4 against the Padres. The 29-year-old would have already been a shaky fantasy option at hitter-friendly Coors Field against one of the hottest teams in the second half this weekend, and he's even more avoidable now coming off his forearm injury. Quantrill has a weak 17.4% strikeout rate in his 23 starts (122 1/3 innings) in 2024. On Aug. 4 against SD, he gave up three earned runs on five hits (two homers) while walking three and striking out two in 4 1/3 innings on the road.

Sat Aug 1021:52Cal Quantrill Has Start Pushed Back
Colorado Rockies starting pitcher Cal Quantrill (forearm) is dealing with general forearm soreness and will have his next start pushed back, according to Patrick Lyons of JustBaseball.com. The 29-year-old has been feeling some soreness from his previous outing on August 4 and will take at least one turn in the rotation off to rest. The 29-year-old has struggled this season, posting a 4.56 ERA, 1.41 WHIP, and a 48:92 BB:K ratio. Across his previous three outings, he has served up 12 earned runs with a 7.71 ERA and a 1.93 WHIP. Quantrill should remain on all waiver wires for the time being and should only be deployed in deeper NL-only formats in favorable matchups.

Thu May 918:19Cal Quantrill Records Quality Start Thursday
Colorado Rockies starting pitcher Cal Quantrill put together a fairly strong outing during Thursday's game against the San Francisco Giants. The right-hander allowed only one run over six innings of work during Thursday's victory. Quantrill also gave up five hits and walked three batters, but he was able to work around the traffic. This is now back-to-back quality outings for Quantrill as he lowers his ERA to 3.94 on the year. We'll see if he can keep the good times rolling against the San Diego Padres during his next start.

Sat May 400:55Cal Quantrill Silences Pirates For First Win
Colorado Rockies starting pitcher Cal Quantrill silenced the Pittsburgh Pirates in Friday's 3-1 victory, tossing 7 2/3 scoreless innings of three-hit ball with no walks on a season-high nine strikeouts en route to his first win of the year. Although he's not known for his bat-missing stuff, Quantrill dominated Pittsburgh for his longest start of the 2024 regular season on Friday and a big bounce-back effort after surrendering six runs in his last appearance at home versus the Houston Astros. The soft-throwing 29-year-old right-hander improved his ERA to 4.31 with a 1.29 WHIP and 26:14 K:BB over 39 2/3 frames (seven starts) this season from Colorado's rotation. Despite the strong showing, Quantrill still won't be the most exciting streaming option for fantasy purposes in his next projected start on Thursday at Coors Field against the division-rival San Francisco Giants.

Wed Jan 1014:39Cal Quantrill, Rockies Avoid Arbitration
The Colorado Rockies and right-hander Cal Quantrill have avoided arbitration with a one-year, $6.55 million contract. The Rockies acquired the 28-year-old from the Guardians in November after he was designated for assignment by Cleveland. It was a tough 2023 season for Quantrill as he posted a 5.24 ERA across 19 starts but he also posted a 2.89 ERA in 40 outings (22 starts) in the 2021 season and followed that up with a 3.38 ERA across a career-high 32 starts in the 2022 campaign. Certainly, the pitching-needy Rockies saw an opportunity to buy low on a player with a rock-solid 3.83 ERA across 570 2/3 innings at the big-league level.

Fri Nov 17 202314:37Cal Quantrill Acquired By Rockies
The Colorado Rockies have acquired pitcher Cal Quantrill from the Cleveland Guardians in exchange for minor-league catcher Kody Huff. Right-hander Tommy Doyle has been designated for assignment to make room for Quantrill on the Rockies' 40-man roster. Designated for assignment himself just two days ago by Cleveland, it's no surprise Quantrill has found a new home in short order. He regressed to a 5.24 ERA across 19 starts in 2023 but also tossed a rock-solid 3.38 ERA in 32 starts in 2022 and a sterling 2.89 ERA across 40 outings (22 starts) in the 2021 campaign. All told, the 28-year-old owns a career 3.83 ERA across 132 career appearances (94 starts) but that number could take a hit pitching his home games in baseball's hitter-friendliest venue at Coors Field in Denver.

Tue Nov 14 202319:07Guardians Designate Cal Quantrill For Assignment
The Cleveland Guardians designated right-hander Cal Quantrill for assignment on Tuesday. He was projected to earn $6.6 million next season and had two years of team control remaining, but Cleveland has decided to move on after his 2023 season was marred by injuries and ineffectiveness. Quantrill finished the month of the regular season strong, but overall he disappointed in his third full season with the team by going 4-7 with a career-worst 5.24 ERA (4.79 FIP) and a 1.46 WHIP while walking 35 and striking out 58 in 99 2/3 innings over 19 starts. He's still on the right side of 30, though, and should generate plenty of interest on the open market this offseason after posting a 3.16 ERA and 1.19 WHIP in 72 appearances (54 starts) for the Guardians from 2021-22.

Fri Sep 1 202316:10Cal Quantrill Activated And Starting Friday
The Cleveland Guardians activated right-hander Cal Quantrill (shoulder) from the 15-day injured list on Friday, and he will make the start against the Tampa Bay Rays. Only desperate fantasy managers should be considering using Quantrill in their starting lineups in his first game back in a tough matchup. The 28-year-old Canadian hasn't pitched in the big leagues in two months due to right-shoulder inflammation, and he had a 6.45 ERA, 1.57 WHIP, 22 walks and 38 strikeouts in 67 innings pitched over 13 starts for Cleveland before landing on the injured list. In five minor-league rehab starts for Double-A Akron and Triple-A Columbus, he wasn't much better, allowing 15 earned runs on 24 hits (four homers) while walking nine and striking out 17 in 22 2/3 frames.

Mon Aug 28 202314:40Cal Quantrill Expected To Return This Week
Cleveland Guardians right-hander Cal Quantrill (shoulder) is expected to return from the 15-day injured list by Sept. 1, which will give the team more starting-rotation options down the stretch. Quantrill looked great in his fourth minor-league rehab start with Triple-A Columbus on Saturday, giving up two runs in 7 1/3 innings while striking out six in what the team is hoping will be his last rehab start before rejoining the major-league roster. Noah Syndergaard was designated for assignment after another poor outing for the team on Sunday. The 28-year-old Quantrill will likely start against the Tampa Bay Rays this week, but fantasy managers would be wise to avoid that start. Quantrill has an elevated 6.45 ERA on the year, 1.57 WHIP and only 38 strikeouts in 67 innings over his 13 starts for Cleveland.

Mon Aug 21 202314:33Cal Quantrill Hit Hard In Latest Rehab Start
Cleveland Guardians right-hander Cal Quantrill (shoulder) had a rough minor-league rehab start on Sunday with Triple-A Columbus, allowing six earned runs on six hits (three home runs) while walking three and striking out three in 5 1/3 innings pitched. The 28-year-old tossed 84 pitches in the outing and will likely come off the 15-day injured list to rejoin Cleveland's starting rotation at some point this weekend against the Toronto Blue Jays. Fantasy managers in deeper leagues and DFS will want to avoid Quantrill if he makes his first start back against a potent Blue Jays lineup. In his 13 starts this year over 67 innings, Quantrill has struggled to the tune of a 6.45 ERA, 1.57 WHIP and 38 strikeouts.

Thu Aug 17 202320:46Cal Quantrill To Make Another Rehab Start Sunday
The next step for Cleveland Guardians right-hander Cal Quantrill (shoulder) will be a minor-league rehab start on Sunday for either Double-A Akron or Triple-A Columbus. Quantrill, who has been out since July 6 with right-shoulder soreness, is expected to throw around 85 pitches on Sunday in what will be his third rehab start. In his two rehab starts so far, he's allowed seven earned runs on 10 hits while walking three and striking out five in five innings. Quantrill could be cleared to rejoin Cleveland's starting rotation if everything goes well on Sunday. He'll be returning to a 2-6 record, rough 6.45 ERA (4.89 FIP), 1.57 WHIP, 22 walks and 38 strikeouts in 67 innings of work over his 13 starts for the Guardians this year.

Mon Aug 7 202314:22Cal Quantrill Faces Live Hitters
Cleveland Guardians right-hander Cal Quantrill (shoulder) was cleared to face live hitters at Double-A Akron on Friday and reported back to Cleveland to see how he bounced back on Saturday. The Guardians are still in the process of determining his next steps. If all is well with the 28-year-old, he should be cleared to begin a minor-league rehab assignment at some point this week. He has been sidelined since July 6 with right-shoulder inflammation, and he probably won't be able to return to the team's starting rotation until later this month. Quantrill should have a spot in the rotation once he's back, but he's had a tough year in 2023 with a 6.45 ERA, 1.57 WHIP and just 38 strikeouts over 13 starts and 67 innings pitched.

Tue Aug 1 202308:37Cal Quantrill To Face Hitters This Week
Cleveland Guardians right-hander Cal Quantrill (shoulder) has been cleared to face hitters this week, and if everything goes well, he should begin a rehab assignment soon after. The 28-year-old landed on the injured list in early July with right-shoulder inflammation after missing almost all of June with a shoulder issue. Quantrill has been a disappointment this season across 13 starts, posting a 6.45 ERA and 1.57 WHIP with 38 strikeouts over 67 innings. Fantasy managers can drop the five-year veteran in all leagues with that kind of production.

Tue Jul 18 202308:48Cal Quantrill Throwing Bullpen Sessions
Cleveland Guardians right-hander Cal Quantrill (shoulder) tossed a bullpen session on Saturday before throwing long toss on Monday. According to manager Terry Francona, the 28-year-old should now be ready for "an up-and-down bullpen session" on Tuesday. Quantrill landed on the injured list in early July after suffering right shoulder inflammation. There's still no timetable for the Canadian native's return, but he's progressing well so far and shouldn't be out for too long. Still, fantasy managers can feel comfortable dropping Quantrill, who owns a 6.45 ERA, 12.4% strikeout rate, and 1.57 WHIP across 67 innings.

Thu Jul 6 202316:14Cal Quantrill Lands Back On The 15-Day Injured List
Cleveland Guardians starting pitcher Cal Quantrill (shoulder) has been placed on the 15-day injured list with right shoulder inflammation. This is the 28-year-old's second IL stint this season due to shoulder inflammation. The shoulder likely contributed to his rough Wednesday start against Atlanta as well as he surrendered five runs over 4 1/3 innings in a loss. It's fair to wonder if Quantrill has been healthy at all this season with a lackluster 6.18 ERA, 1.50 WHIP, and 35:22 K/BB ratio over 62 2/3 innings (12 starts). He missed a little under a month in his previous IL stint, which was caused by right shoulder inflammation, so there's a chance he's held out even longer this time. Starting pitcher Cody Morris has been recalled from Triple-A Columbus in a corresponding move.

Tue Jun 27 202319:02Cal Quantrill Expected To Start On Friday
Cleveland Guardians starting pitcher Cal Quantrill (shoulder) is scheduled to return for Friday's game against the Chicago Cubs. The right-hander has been sidelined since the beginning of June due to a shoulder issue. He looked sharp during his lone rehab start on Sunday in Double-A. Before the injury, Quantrill had a 5.61 ERA (4.92 FIP), 1.42 WHIP across 11 starts. He could be limited during his first start back, so he won't make for an ideal streaming option on Friday. However, fantasy managers in season-long formats can go ahead and prepare for Quantrill to return this week.
