Cubs signed INF Jeudy Valdez to a minor league contract. |
The 24-year-old middle infielder slashed .251/.300/.406 with 10 homers, 49 RBI and 16 stolen bases in 125 games at Double-A San Antonio in 2013, but also struck out 106 times while walking just 27 and was caught stealing 12 times. He'll serve as organizational depth for the Cubs. |

Valdez was designated for assignment last week to make room for the newly-claimed Fautino De Los Santos. He's cleared waivers, though, and will be in big league camp as a non-roster invitee. The 23-year-old infielder batted .225/.273/.364 with 12 homers and a .637 OPS last season with Double-A San Antonio. |
