Mon Aug 501:33Max Fried Can't Find Control In First Start Off IL
Atlanta Braves starting pitcher Max Fried made his first start since July 11 on Sunday, but didn't have his usual stuff and took the loss in a 7-0 defeat against the Miami Marlins. Fried allowed five runs on four hits and a whopping five walks in 3 IP. He did manage to strike out six, but it was hardly a consolation prize for him or fantasy managers. The lefty was dealing with forearm neuritis before coming into this start, and whether that is still affecting him or he is just rust is up for debate. Either way, fantasy managers should sit Fried until he shows he is startable again.

Sun Aug 411:00Max Fried Returning On Sunday
Atlanta Braves starting pitcher Max Fried (forearm) is being activated off the 15-day IL to start on Sunday afternoon against the Miami Marlins. Fried hit the injured list in late July due to forearm neuritis but clearly did not face any setbacks as he returned very quickly. Prior to the injury, the southpaw posted a strong 3.08 ERA, 1.16 WHIP, and a 34:95 BB:K ratio. In his past five starts, the 30-year-old has held a 2.76 ERA and 1.43 WHIP. Under the hood, Fried boasts a 59.3% ground ball rate, 33.2% hard-hit rate, and a 5.2% barrel rate, which suggest he should continue to post excellent ratios in the second half. Fried will be a popular play in DFS this afternoon as he will face the Marlins who carry one of the worst records in baseball.

Thu Aug 121:14Max Fried Could Return Sunday Against Marlins
Atlanta Braves starting pitcher Max Fried (forearm) is eligible to come off the 15-day injured list on Friday and is a candidate for Sunday's start at Truist Park against the visiting division-rival Miami Marlins. Fried was placed on the 15-day IL on July 21, retroactive to July 18, after feeling discomfort in his left forearm during warmups prior to pitching an inning in the mid-July All-Star Game, but it sounds like he'll be able to skip a brief minor-league rehab assignment and get right back into Atlanta's rotation as soon as this weekend. The 30-year-old All-Star left-hander took a strong 3.08 ERA, 1.16 WHIP, and 95:34 K:BB across 108 innings with him to the shelf, and he'll be in a great spot for fantasy purposes if he indeed returns to take the hill against the last-place Marlins on Sunday. Stay tuned for more clarity on the Braves' rotation plans for this weekend.

Mon Jul 2912:08Max Fried Throws On Sunday, Feeling Better
Atlanta Braves left-hander Max Fried (forearm), who is eligible to come off the 15-day injured list on Friday, said he felt good after ramping up activities on Saturday and threw in the outfield before Sunday's contest against the New York Mets and showed no lingering effects of nerve inflammation. Manager Brian Snitker said he didn't know if Fried would require a minor-league rehab start once he's cleared to pitch. The 30-year-old southpaw went on the IL coming out of the All-Star break after he felt discomfort while warming up for the scoreless inning he pitched in the Midsummer Classic. Fried still has some hurdles to clear before he's back in the Braves' starting rotation, so fantasy managers are going to have to stay patient and keep him stashed in an IL spot. He's been great this year, going 7-5 with a 3.08 ERA and 1.16 WHIP with 95 K's in 108 innings over his 18 starts.

Sun Jul 2111:01Max Fried Placed On 15-Day Injured List
Atlanta Braves starting pitcher Max Fried (forearm) was placed on the 15-day injured list due to left forearm neuritis. In a corresponding move, the Braves promoted left-handed pitcher Dylan Dodd from Triple-A. This transaction was backdated to July 18, which could set up an early August return for Fried. The 30-year-old has posted a strong 3.08 ERA, 1.16 WHIP, and a 34:95 BB:K ratio across 108 frames this season. At Triple-A, Dodd has logged 83 innings to the tune of a 4.99 ERA and a 1.41 WHIP. The 26-year-old could contend for the fifth spot in the rotation with Bryce Elder, who has struggled in the majors this season with a hefty 6.35 ERA.

Fri Jul 1208:57Max Fried Suffers Tough Loss
Atlanta Braves starting pitcher Max Fried suffered a tough-luck loss versus the Arizona Diamondbacks in a 1-0 loss on Thursday evening. The lefty went six innings and allowed one run, five hits, three walks and recorded seven strikeouts in the contest. The upcoming free-agent hit some bumps in the road earlier this season, but for the most part and been one of the better arms in all of baseball. On the season, the 30-year-old is 7-5 with a healthy 3.08 ERA, 1.16 WHIP and 95 strikeouts in 108 innings. As one of the best arms in the game, managers should feel comfortable starting Fried in all of his starts.

Tue May 2815:06Max Fried Looks To Stay In Top Form Against Washington
Atlanta Braves starting pitcher Max Fried looks to build on his recent string of success in Tuesday's scheduled start against the division-rival Washington Nationals. After a shaky start to the season, Fried is on a roll with a 1.70 ERA and 36:11 K:BB over his last 42 1/3 innings (six starts) with two complete games for the Braves during this stretch. The current Nationals roster is batting a career .176 (13-for-76) with just two extra-base hits against Fried, setting the hurler up in a highly favorable position. Treat the 30-year-old All-Star left-hander as one of the top pitching options on Tuesday's slate.

Wed May 2222:08Max Fried Notches Second Complete Game
Atlanta Braves starting pitcher Max Fried threw his second complete game of the season in Wednesday's victory on the road over the Chicago Cubs, allowing two runs (one earned) on three hits with a season-high nine strikeouts en route to his fourth win of the year. Fried needed 105 pitches to go the distance in Wednesday's masterful performance, carrying a bid for a perfect game into the sixth inning before Ian Happ's leadoff double broke it up. Even though it's been an up-and-down campaign for the 30-year-old star left-hander, he owns a strong 3.38 ERA, 1.06 WHIP, and 48:20 K:BB with a career-best .197 average against through 10 starts overall (58 2/3 frames) for the Braves in 2024. Monday's series opener at home against the division-rival Washington Nationals marks Fried's next projected start. He gave up two runs over 9 1/3 innings (two starts) with a 9:1 K:BB against Washington in 2023.

Sat May 1123:55Max Fried Picks Up Third Win, Fires Seven No-Hit Innings
Atlanta Braves left-hander Max Fried (3-1) allowed three walks while striking out five over seven scoreless and hitless innings in Saturday's 4-1 win over the New York Mets. The 30-year-old was removed after 109 pitches. Braves manager Brian Snitker pulled Fried from continuing to pursue the individual no-hitter and turned to the bullpen to close it out. The team's no-hitter was broken when Raisel Iglesias surrendered a solo shot to J.D. Martinez during the ninth inning. Fried has been dealing lately and has not allowed a run in three of his last four starts. Overall, he owns a 3.57 ERA, 1.04 WHIP, and a 37:17 K: BB across 45 1/13 innings in 2024. Fried has been pitching well recently and should remain in all fantasy lineups for his next start Friday against the San Diego Padres.

Tue Mar 1911:13Max Fried Strikes Out Four In Six Innings Of Work
Atlanta Braves starting pitcher Max Fried took the loss on Monday in a 7-3 Grapefruit League game versus the Tampa Bay Rays. Although he took the loss, the veteran pitched well. The southpaw hadn't given up a run through five innings of work, but allowed four singles and a sac fly that turned into four runs (three earned) in the sixth inning. The 30-year-old walked just one while striking out four. It was a nice bounce-back after a rough start his last time out, and the former All-Star will look to build some momentum heading into the start of the regular season.

Fri Mar 814:49Max Fried Struggles In Second Spring Outing
Atlanta Braves left-hander Max Fried struggled in his second start of the spring on Friday versus the Pittsburgh Pirates. The 30-year-old yielded four earned runs on five hits, including a homer, with two walks and two strikeouts. His outing began with a clean first inning but struggled in the fourth when he allowed two singles and a walk. All three runners came around to score after he departed the game without recording an out in the frame. Fried tossed two scoreless innings in his first start of the spring on Feb. 26 but his spring ERA now sits at 7.40 in five innings of work. He posted a tidy 2.55 ERA and a 19.9% K-BB% in the 2023 season but he was limited to just 14 starts due to a forearm injury and a late-season blister. ATC projects a healthy return in 2024 that features a 3.27 ERA and a 17.4% K-BB% across 27 starts, making him an excellent fantasy option.

Thu Jan 1116:08Max Fried, Braves Settle At $15 Million
Left-hander Max Fried and the Atlanta Braves settled at $15 million for the 2024 season to avoid salary arbitration on Thursday, according to a source. This was Fried's final year of arbitration eligibility, and the talented 29-year-old southpaw will become a free agent for the first time in his career after the 2024 season concludes. Injuries were the story of his season in 2023, as he was only able to make 14 starts. However, when he was on the mound for the Braves, he remained a fantasy ace, posting a 2.55 ERA, only 18 walks and 80 strikeouts in 77 2/3 innings pitched. Fried also had a career-best 58 percent ground-ball rate. During a walk year with no restrictions heading into the regular season, fantasy managers should one again be targeting Fried as a fantasy ace.

Fri Oct 6 202318:14Max Fried To Start Game 2 Of NLDS
Atlanta Braves left-hander Max Fried (finger) has been tabbed to start Game 2 of the National League Division Series against the division-rival Philadelphia Phillies on Monday. It was an injury-filled season for Fried, and he finished off the regular season on the injured list due to a blister on his left index finger. The 29-year-old southpaw is now ready to go, though, and he's been excellent this season when he has been healthy, going 8-1 with a 2.55 ERA, 1.13 WHIP and 80 strikeouts in 77 2/3 innings over 14 starts. In his second-to-last start of the regular season, Fried allowed an earned run while walking two and striking out six in five innings in a no-decision on Sept. 12 in his only start against the Phillies this year.

Wed Oct 4 202318:40Max Fried On Track For NLDS
Atlanta Braves starting pitcher Max Fried (finger) appears to be on track for Game 2 of the National League Division Series. The left-hander wore a protective bandage across the blister on his finger during his 76-pitch simulated game. However, Fried won't be allowed to wear the bandage in an actual game. The hope is that Fried will be fully healthy before being called upon to pitch in the NLDS. When healthy, Fried holds a strong 2.55 ERA, 1.13 WHIP, and 80/18 K/BB ratio across 14 starts this season.
