Tue Aug 2700:36Matt Olson Homers, Plates Five Monday
Atlanta Braves first baseman Matt Olson had a nice game at the plate in Monday's 10-6 win over the Twins. Olson went 3-for-5 with two doubles, a three-run home run, five RBI, and a strikeout. The 30-year-old helped cap off a big first inning, launching a Bailey Ober cutter into the second right-center deck for his 23rd HR of the season. Olson has had a disappointing season overall, but August has been relatively better. He is now slashing .247/.340/.528 with six HR and 21 RBI in 89 August at-bats. Olson's batting average has varied throughout his career, but he has always provided elite power, so fantasy managers should be happy to see him finally start to produce in that regard as the fantasy playoffs approach.

Thu Aug 1510:22Matt Olson Homers, Scores Three Times In Win
Atlanta Braves first baseman Matt Olson went 2-for-4 with a solo home run and three runs scored in Wednesday's 13-2 win over the Giants. The 30-year-old also walked once and the hits extended his current hit streak to six games. After blasting 54 home runs last season, it took some time for Olson to get going this season with just 13 of them as of July 26 (102 games), but since then the 2x All-Star has hit eight in his last 18 games. Strikeouts are up big for him compared to last season and walks are down big which has contributed to the underperformance, but last season Olson slashed .352/.452/.695 with 11 home runs over the final month of the season, so he may just be heating up for that final stretch.

Sun Aug 1108:10Matt Olson Homers Twice, Drives In Six Runs
Atlanta Braves first baseman Matt Olson went 2-for-4 with a walk and a pair of home runs in Saturday's 11-8 win over the Rockies, bringing his season total to 20. The first home run was a grand slam in the third inning and the second was a two-run blast in the seventh. The 2023 home run leader (54) has taken a while to get going but now has seven home runs in his last 14 games along with 16 RBI. Olson is striking out much more this year than last, 23.2% last season compared to 28.0% this season, despite a slightly higher contact rate this year. The 30-year-old's barrel rate has dropped nearly 5.0% as well, leading to a big dip in home runs. Hopefully he can finish strong, as he did in 2023, but right now his .230-20-60-50-0 line has to be a disappointment for fantasy managers that drafted him.

Wed Jul 3121:22Matt Olson Heating Up, Clubs Two Homers
Atlanta Braves first baseman Matt Olson put together a big day at the plate in Wednesday afternoon's win over the hosting Milwaukee Brewers at American Family Field, clubbing his 15th and 16th home runs of the season in the victory. After getting the Braves on the board with a solo homer off Brewers ace Freddy Peralta in the fourth inning, Olson crushed his second long ball of the game to give Atlanta an insurance run and a 5-2 lead in the eighth inning. The 30-year-old slugging superstar has endured a tough year in 2024 following an absurd 2023 campaign, but over his last eight games, Olson has looked better at the plate while batting .290 (9-for-31) with four round-trippers, six RBI, and five runs scored. Keep deploying him on a daily basis in all fantasy leagues as he works his way out of the skid.

Sun Jun 208:48Matt Olson Hits Ninth Home Run In Loss
Atlanta Braves first baseman Matt Olson went 2-for-4 with a double and a home run in Saturday's 11-9 loss to the Athletics. The 2x All-Star also walked once, scored once, and collected two RBI in the contest. After a poor 31-game start that left his slashline at .195/.319/.363 with three home runs, the slugger has picked up the pace, going 28-for-95 (.295) with six home runs over his last 25 games and raising his season-long slashline to a more respectable .240/.328/.447. Fantasy managers may find some solace in the fact that the slugger started off 2023 slowly as well, but from June 1 through the end of the season, he hit .309 with 37 home runs, 97 RBI, and 83 runs scored.

Tue May 1423:02Matt Olson Slugs Home Run, Drives In Four Runs On Tuesday
Atlanta Braves first basemanMatt Olson finished Tuesday night 2-for-3 with one home run, four RBI, a walk, and a run scored in the Braves 7-0 win against the Chicago Cubs. It was Olson's fifth home run of the season and only his second home run in May. Coming back down to earth in 2024 was expected for the lefty slugger after producing career-high numbers in home runs, RBI, and batting average in 2023. He's currently on pace for only 20 HR and a .218 batting average after hitting 54 HR with a .283 batting average in 2023. It's not quite the encore season fantasy managers were hoping for out of the power-hitting first baseman. Olson has produced two homers in his last five games, which hopefully means he has found the power stroke to turn his season around.

Fri May 1023:29Matt Olson Snaps Home Run Drought
Atlanta Braves first baseman Matt Olson homered during Friday's 4-2 win over the New York Mets, snapping a stretch that saw the All-Star go 26 straight games without going deep. Olson had not homered since he went deep off Diamondbacks hurler Ryne Nelson in the second inning of a 5-2 win over Arizona on April 7. The home run, just Olson's fourth of the season, was only the fifth hit he had recorded in the month of May, entering Friday's game with a .190/.290/.190 slash line in 21 at-bats prior to Friday. Despite his recent struggles, Olson remains a must-start in all league formats. Overall, the 30-year-old slugger is slashing .202/.311/.372 with four home runs, 18 RBI, and 16 runs across 151 plate appearances in 2024.

Mon Apr 2215:01Matt Olson Strikes Out Four Times On Sunday
Atlanta Braves first basemen Matt Olson went 0-for-4 with four strikeouts Sunday against the Texas Rangers. Olson's strikeout issues continue to stack up as he struck out six times in three games over the weekend, finishing 0-for-12 with one run, one RBI, and two walks. The struggles have followed him all season long as he is hitting .231 (18-for-92) with seven doubles, one triple, three homers, 12 runs, 13 RBI, 12 walks, and 26 strikeouts over 20 games. Despite striking out four times on Sunday, Olson remains a must-start in all league formats.

Sat Apr 600:55Matt Olson Goes Deep In Comeback Win
Atlanta Braves first baseman Matt Olson cranked a solo home run during the third inning of Friday's 6-5 walk-off win over the Arizona Diamondbacks, walloping his second homer of the young season. Olson crushed one to deep right center early in Friday's eventual comeback win during Atlanta's home opener. After a miserable 7-for-44 dry spell amid spring training, the 30-year-old reigning home run king is going about his business in the early goings of the regular season while hitting .269 (7-for-26) with a .975 OPS, two round-trippers, and six RBI through six outings. In 13 career games against Arizona as a member of the Braves, the lefty-hitting Olson is now batting .298 with five goners, 12 RBI, and eight runs scored and is a matchup-proof fantasy play on a daily basis in a potent Braves lineup.

Fri Mar 2922:11Matt Olson Doubles Up On Opening Day
Atlanta Braves first basemanMatt Olsonhad a massive day on Friday, going 3-5 with three doubles, three RBI, and one run in Friday's 9-3 win over the Philadelphia Phillies. His bases-loaded double in the eighth inning put the finishing touches on the Braves' win over the Phillies. It was a great sign for Olson, who had a lackluster spring. As one of the best-hitting first basemen in the game, you can expect the 30-year-old to continue to be an essential cog in a very potent Braves lineup.

Thu Mar 2121:53Matt Olson Adds Three Strikeouts To Spring Struggles
Atlanta Braves first baseman Matt Olson couldn't get going in Thursday's 5-2 Grapefruit League loss to the New York Yankees, striking out in each of his three at-bats. Over 35 ABs during spring training, Olson is now batting a mere .171 with a .596 OPS, one home run, two RBI, and four runs scored. Fantasy managers spending a second-round pick on Olson this spring are hoping the 29-year-old reigning home run king is getting the struggles out of his system before the games begin to count on March 28 in Atlanta's regular-season opener against the division-rival Philadelphia Phillies. After also leading MLB with 139 RBI and the National League in slugging percentage (.604) plus perfect attendance in 2023 (162 games played), Olson is going to be just fine. He's among fantasy's safest bets in 2024 for prolific power numbers in a high-powered Braves lineup.

Mon Feb 2615:27Matt Olson Walks, Picks Up A Hit In Spring Debut
Atlanta Braves first baseman Matt Olson made his spring debut on Sunday in a 5-4 Grapefruit League loss to the Boston Red Sox. Last year's MLB home run leader drew a walk on four pitches in his first at-bat, then took a swing at the first pitch he saw in the next at-bat which resulted in a rare infield single for the plodding slugger. The 2x All-Star had a career year in 2023, putting up a .283-54-139-127-1 line and allowing Braves fans to firmly put the days of Freddie Freeman in the rearview mirror. The 2023 Silver Slugger Award winner has played all 162 games his first two seasons in Atlanta and another 40 home run, 100 RBI, and 100 runs scored campaign should be in the offing in 2024. Olson is rightfully the second first baseman off the board in drafts as he won't help in the stolen base category (unlike the aforementioned Freddie Freeman), but is a rock-solid second-round pick for fantasy.

Wed Sep 13 202300:43Matt Olson Crushes 51st Home Run Tuesday
Atlanta Braves first baseman Matt Olson continued to build on his league-leading home run totals in Tuesday's 7-6 extra-innings win over the Phillies. Olson went 2-for-4 with a single, a solo home run, a walk, and a strikeout. The 29-year-old is having a career season, slashing .281/.388/.619 with 51 HR and 128 RBI. Elite power has never been an issue for Olson, but if he can maintain his batting average gains then he can vault himself into a top-tier fantasy spot next season.

Thu Aug 10 202317:14Matt Olson Smacks 40th Home Run In Braves Loss
Atlanta Braves first baseman Matt Olson cracked his 40th home run of the season, losing to the Pittsburgh Pirates 7-5 Thursday. Olson is now tied with Shohei Ohtani for the league lead in home runs. He has surpassed his career high of 39 in 2021. The most homers a Braves player has hit in a season was in 2005 when AndruwJones smacked 51. At 29 years old, Olson is having another fantastic season hitting .267/.375/.979 with 101 RBI in 427 at-bats.

Tue Aug 1 202302:10Matt Olson Surging Again, Supplies Offense In Loss
Atlanta Braves first baseman Matt Olson went 2-for-2 with a solo home run and two walks in Monday's 4-1 loss to the Los Angeles Angels. The 29-year-old led off the second inning with a single before clubbing a fifth-inning leadoff homer to put Atlanta on the board. Olson was intentionally walked in the sixth frame before drawing a ninth-inning free pass in an effort to start a rally, but the next three Braves would be retired. The slugger's bat is catching fire again just when it seemed Olson was starting to cool a bit; he's now whacked four big flies (nine RBI) in as many games since July 28. Since Olson's initial warpath began on June 17, he's hitting .333 with 17 blasts and 43 RBI in 129 at-bats across 33 games in this span. Overall, the 2023 All-Star is hitting .263 with an NL-high .593 SLG and 36 bombs to go with an MLB-high 89 RBI over 396 ABs.

Thu Jul 20 202315:31Matt Olson Adds Two More Homers To Sizzling Run In Win
Atlanta Braves first baseman Matt Olson went 2-for-4 with two home runs and three RBI in Thursday's 7-5 win over the Arizona Diamondbacks. The 29-year-old took Zac Gallen yard for a two-run blast in the seventh inning before rudely greeting Miguel Castro with a solo shot during the eighth frame for an insurance run. Over his last 25 games, Olson is batting a scorching .337 with 13 homers, 34 RBI and 26 runs scored in 98 at-bats. The 2023 All-Star looks to stay red-hot while slashing .258/.363/.581 with an NL-high 32 long balls and 80 RBI, and one stolen base (365 ABs) heading into a three-game weekend set against the Milwaukee Brewers.

Thu Jul 13 202314:16Matt Olson Looks To Extend National League Home Run Lead
Atlanta Braves first baseman Matt Olson, who is currently leading the National League in home runs with 29, is looking to extend his lead as the second half of the season kicks off on Friday. Olson has strung together a ridiculous first half of the year, slashing .254/.358/.569 with 29 home runs, 72 RBI, and one stolen base over 343 at-bats. His power has been prodigious up to this point, smashing at least eight home runs in every month (except July) while notching four multi-homer contests. He was white-hot at the dish in the last 15 games before the All-Star break as well, with a .367/.424/.883 batting line to go along with eight home runs and 20 RBI over 60 at-bats. The 29-year-old slugger is second to only Shohei Ohtani, who has 32 home runs, for the MLB lead. There's no reason to think Olson's power surge will slow down, either, as the Braves host the Chicago White Sox for a three-game set starting on Friday. Chicago's probably starters are Michael Kopech, Lance Lynn, and Dylan Cease, who are all right-handed pitchers. Olson has hit 25 of his 29 home runs off right-handed pitching this season.

Sat Jul 1 202309:10Matt Olson Keeps Raking, Goes Deep Twice
Atlanta Braves first baseman Matt Olson went 4-for-5 with two home runs, five RBI, four runs scored, and a triple in Friday's 16-4 blowout win versus the Miami Marlins. The 29-year-old is on some kind of run right now. Since receiving what seemed to be a relegation out of the lineup's two-hole on June 15, Olson is hitting .333 with an astounding 10 homers and 22 RBI over 54 at-bats for a roaring stretch. The former All-Star is giving Shohei Ohtani a run for his money as MLB's home run leader, now up to an NL-high 28 big flies on the year. As Ohtani continues to grab headlines, Olson made a bit of history of his own in this one by breaking Hank Aaron's Braves franchise record for most homers through 81 games.

Sat Jun 24 202309:52Matt Olson Surging, Clubs Two Home Runs
Atlanta Braves first baseman Matt Olson went 2-for-5 with two home runs and three RBI in Friday's 11-10 shootout loss to the Cincinnati Reds. The 29-year-old is starting a power surge, having belted five round-trippers for 10 RBI in his last seven contests since moving down to the five-hole. Perhaps Olson is making himself comfortable there. In 96 at-bats while batting fifth since 2021, Olson is hitting .302 with 11 dingers and 26 RBI. The former All-Star is slashing .233/.345/.521 with 23 bombs and 55 RBI over 288 at-bats. Hopefully fantasy managers are punting either the batting average or stolen base category to fully appreciate Olson's slugging goodness.
