A look at what's happening around the majors Tuesday:POWER SURGEThe Athletics are riding the long ball to their longest winning streak in 13 years. Oakland looks for an 11th straight victory as it continues a series against the Angels. Matt Chapman has homered in three straight games, and Oakland has multiple homers in all but one of its 10 consecutive victories. The streak does have a caveat — the A's still have to complete a suspended game from May 19 at Detroit. Oakland is leading 5-3 in the seventh inning of a game that is set to resume Sept. 6.NAME GAMEThe Indians hope some fresh blood can help them turn things around. Right-hander Zach Plesac — nephew of former big league pitcher Dan Plesac — will make his major league debut at Fenway Park and try to get Cleveland just its second win in nine games. Boston won 12-5 Monday, socking it to the Indians after Oliver Pérez caused an odd stoppage when he asked for new cleats after arriving from the bullpen in the fifth inning. Boston left-hander... NEW YORK (AP) — Left-hander James Paxton will rejoin the New York Yankees' rotation in the new few days, followed by CC Sabathia this weekend against Boston. On a day of updates for many of the Yankees' 15 players on the injured list, reliever Dellin Betances threw his first bullpen session Monday, and ace Luis Severino said he planned to throw on flat ground Tuesday.Paxton has not pitched for the Yankees since May 3 because of left knee inflammation that required a cortisone shot May 4. He felt sore after a 55-pitch, four-inning outing Friday at extended spring training, then threw a bullpen session Sunday."It felt the best that it's felt since going on the IL," Paxton said.He said the pain was similar to that of a bruise. Paxton, 3-2 with a 3.11 ERA in seven starts, was cleared to pitch by head team physician Dr. Christopher Ahmad. Paxton estimated he would be able to throw about 75 pitches."As long as it's not going to be a thing where I can make this thing worse by pitching on it, I... [More]

Colorado also reinstated outfielder Noel Cuevas (strained left quad) from the injured list and optioned him to Albuquerque.___More AP MLB: https://apnews.com/MLB and https://twitter.com/AP_Sports

HOUSTON (AP) — The Houston Astros placed outfielder George Springer on the 10-day injured list Saturday with a left hamstring strain, but could be close to getting star second baseman Jose Altuve back from injury.Houston general manager Jeff Luhnow said Springer suffered a Grade 2 sprain, but would not give a timetable for how long the outfielder would be out.Houston manager AJ Hinch said Springer will miss more than 10 days."Our doctors have told us that he's injured, but it's not as dramatic as we have feared," Hinch said. "He's going to be out a little while, and he's going to exceed the ten days, but they were encouraged by their findings and observations. He's really sore. He's not going to do anything for the foreseeable future. Hopefully, if the initial diagnosis is right, we avoided the catastrophe."Springer, who is batting .308 this season with an AL-leading 17 home runs and 43 RBIs, suffered the injury trying to make a sliding catch on a foul ball in the eighth inning of Friday's... CLEVELAND (AP) — The Cleveland Indians designated Carlos Gonzalez for assignment after the veteran outfielder failed to produce for a team that has struggled offensively all season.Gonzalez, who signed a minor-league contract in spring training, batted .210 with two home runs and seven RBIs in 30 games. The left-handed hitter, 33, played the last 11 seasons for the Colorado Rockies.Manager Terry Francona said it was difficult to part ways with Gonzalez, but the Indians want to give more playing time to Jordan Luplow and Oscar Mercado, both right-handed hitters.Francona said catcher Roberto Perez, who left Tuesday's game after being struck on the mask with a foul tip, will not go on the concussion list. Perez underwent a series of tests and will be out for a couple of days.Catcher Eric Haase was recalled from Triple-A Columbus.
