Fri Feb 24 201211:11Justin De Fratus shut down with sore elbow
Justin De Fratus will be shut down for about a week due to soreness in his pitching elbow.
He'll be checked out by the team doctor before hopefully resuming his throwing before long. At this point, the Phillies don't seem to be concerned that it's a serious ailment. If healthy, De Fratus will compete for a spot in the bullpen after posting a 2.99 ERA and 99/25 K/BB ratio over 75 1/3 innings this season between Double- and Triple-A and a 2.25 ERA in five games with the Phils.

Wed Feb 2 201104:13Justin De Fratus in mix for roster spot
Justin De Fratus is expected to get a "long look in spring training," as the young reliever tries to land one of the Philies' final roster spots.
Antonio Bastardo, David Herndon, and Vance Worley are among those who will compete with De Fratus, who posted a stellar 1.94 ERA and .99 WHIP last season in Single-A and Double-A combined. He also has averaged nearly a strikeout per inning in four minor league seasons. At the very least, he is a solid prospect. If he does not make the team this year, it could be only a matter of time before he resurfaces.
