Tue Mar 17 201512:25Weeks will start getting work at first base in near future
Weeks will start getting work at first base in the near future, but he may not be deployed there in games for a while, the Tacoma News Tribune's Bob Dutton reports.
The Mariners are probably hoping Logan Morrison really takes to being the everyday first baseman this season, but given his injury history, having Weeks start at first against the occasional lefty would make some sense. Depending on your league, this could lead to further position eligibility for Weeks, but first-base eligibility rarely moves the needle much.

Weeks suffered a minor hamstring injury in Tuesday's spring training game, but is expected to return to the field in the near future, Greg Johns of MLB.com reports.
Weeks will not play Wednesday, but it appears the injury won't hold him out long. Assuming he returns in short order, he's slated to serve as the backup at first base and left field for the Mariners this season, receiving starts against lefties in left field as part of a platoon with Dustin Ackley.

Weeks will get most of the starts against lefties in left field and will also serve as the backup first baseman for the Mariners this season, 710 ESPN's Shannon Drayer reports.
This should not come as a surprise, as Weeks fares much better against lefties, while Dustin Ackley is better against righties. Weeks has a .261/.385/.448 career slash line against southpaws, and could see 250-300 plate appearances via this platoon in 2015. In addition, it is worth noting that Weeks, not Willie Bloomquist, will be Logan Morrison's backup at first base, which could add to Weeks' value in NL-only leagues.

Weeks will work out primarily in left field in spring training and might platoon with Dustin Ackley, the Tacoma News Tribune reports.
Manager Lloyd McClendon didn't call it a platoon, but that's how he described it. "I think the combination of both of those guys out there should produce a left fielder where you have a combination of 20-25 home runs and 100-plus RBIs," McClendon said. "Now, you've got something." A platoon was an obvious option when the Mariners signed Weeks, but McClendon's description makes it seem likely to happen.
Thu Feb 12 201500:05Rickie Weeks: Agrees to Deal with Mariners
Weeks agreed to a one-year, $2 million contract with the Mariners on Wednesday, ESPN reports.
This is a bit of surprise that could have ramifications up and down the roster. According to the report, Weeks will play left and right field in addition to second base, though he has never played outfield in his career. If Weeks plays outfield, the Mariners can get away with a four-man bench, which allows manager Lloyd McClendon to keep an eight-man bullpen. It also means that the loser of the shortstop battle between Brad Miller and Chris Taylor will be sent back to Triple-A, assuming utility man Willie Bloomquist's injured knee proves healthy.
Fri Oct 31 201410:35Rickie Weeks: Becomes A Free Agent
The Brewers declined the $14.5 million option on Weeks, the Milwaukee Journal-Sentinel's Tom Haudricourt reports.
This is certainly not surprising, given how much his play has declined at the plate and in the field. He will probably need to move off second base in order to see regular at-bats on a team next season, but if he is willing to do so, the Brewers may look to bring him back on a lesser contract. His fantasy value for 2015 won't be clear until he signs.

Weeks went 2-for-3 with a solo home run and two runs scored against the Reds on Thursday.
Weeks filled in for the injured Scooter Gennett (thigh) and came through offensively. However, he also committed a costly error on a dropped fly ball. The Brewers were eliminated from the playoffs Thursday, so the team has no incentive to bring Gennett back in a hurry, leaving a possibility for more starts at second base for Weeks.

Weeks was 1-for-1 with a walk and a three-run home run in Milwaukee's win over the Dodgers on Friday night.
He entered the game as a pinch hitter in the seventh as his mates put up four unearned runs to take the lead in the game, then launched his fourth home run in the eighth to ice the victory. A nice outburst, but he remains on the soft side of a platoon with Scooter Gennett which severely limits his fantasy value.
Mon Jul 28 201422:04Rickie Weeks goes hitless in loss
Rickie Weeks went 0-for-3 against the Rays on Monday to halt his hitting streak at seven games.
Weeks has gotten to play regularly of late with Scooter Gennett hurt, and he's been taking advantage, with eight hits, three doubles and three walks in 25 at-bats since the break. Gennett did return tonight, but since the game was in an AL park, Weeks was able to DH. He might sit tomorrow against Alex Cobb, but he'll be in Wednesday's lineup versus David Price.

Rickie Weeks went 3-for-5 with a double and a solo home run in Thursday's win over the Rockies.
Weeks went deep for the third time this season, victimizing Christian Friedrich with a home run to lead off the ballgame. The second baseman has played sparingly, but has a respectable .276/.341/.423 slash line with 15 RBI in 135 plate appearances on the year.

Sat May 31 201400:19Weeks has two RBI vs. Cubs on Friday
Rickie Weeks went 3-for-4 with two RBI and three runs scored against the Cubs on Friday.
Weeks had just two hits in 17 at-bats over his last nine games. While it looked like he could push Scooter Gennett for playing time earlier this month, he's still only starting against southpaws. That severely limits his upside in fantasy leagues.

Sun May 18 201417:13Weeks continues to hit, homers as Crew loses
Rickie Weeks went 1-for-4 with a two-run home run in Sunday's loss to the Cubs.
Weeks took Travis Wood deep in the fifth inning to bring the Brewers back in the game with a 4-2 deficit. In limited playing time, Weeks has two homers and a .351/.403/.509. He has started five games in the last eight games and should earn more time based on his performance.

Thu May 15 201416:28Rickie Weeks goes 3-for-4, homers in win
Rickie Weeks went 3-for-4 with a homer and a double Thursday in the Brewers' 4-3 defeat of the Pirates.
Khris Davis had the game-winning hit in the bottom of the ninth. Weeks is now 13-for-20 this month, raising his average from .188 all of the way up to .365. He should be earning himself more playing time in the process, but we'll see if that materializes.

Sun May 11 201419:27Weeks collects three hits in win over Yankees
Rickie Weeks went 3-for-5 with two RBI in a win over the Yankees on Sunday.
Weeks had an RBI single in the third inning and added an RBI groundout in the sixth. He's shown a pulse at the plate in recent days, going 5-for-9 with all three of his RBI in the past two days. With Scooter Gennett also hitting well it may be a short-lived appearance for Weeks, who has said he won't move to left field in order to get more playing time.

Sat May 10 201416:44Weeks declined invitation to try left field
Rickie Weeks was asked by Brewers management if he wanted to try left field and declined.
Weeks, who's making $11 million this year, is apparently content being the backup to Brewers second baseman Scooter Gennett. He has made just six starts this year.

Tue Apr 1 201415:15Weeks starting at second base Tuesday
Rickie Weeks will start at second base Tuesday against the Braves.
Scooter Gennett got the start at second base in the season opener on Monday, but Weeks will get the call Tuesday with left-hander Alex Wood on the hill for Atlanta. It looks like Brewers manager Ron Roenicke will use a platoon early on, but Weeks has more upside and will likely get his job back eventually.

Wed Mar 12 201418:43Weeks feels 'great' pop in left hamstring
Rickie Weeks felt a pop in his left hamstring while running the bases Wednesday but clarified after the game that it was just scar tissue breaking free.
"It's a great thing, for sure," Weeks said. "Now I'm good. . Now that I've had that release, I can keep strengthening it more and more, and just keep working through it." Weeks had season-ending surgery on the same hamstring last August, and he left Wednesday's game shortly after feeling the pop. The incident scared him at first, but there won't be any residual effects from the scar tissue releasing. The 31-year-old is batting .368 this spring and is looking to regain the starting second base job from Scooter Gennett.

Tue Mar 4 201421:00Rickie Weeks tweaking stance at plate
Rickie Weeks has altered his stance at the plate, holding his hands "a tad bit higher."
The move appears to be working so far, as Weeks is 4-for-9 with a home run and four walks in his first four Cactus League games. He's also drawn praise from Brewers manager Ron Roenicke. "Geez, he's killing the baseball," Roenicke said. "I hope he continues it. When he's swinging the bat like this, he is really fun to watch." Scooter Gennett entered spring training as the favorite to start at second base, but Weeks could get his job back with a strong spring. It's definitely one position battle to watch.

Sun Mar 2 201419:46Rickie Weeks has monster day to lead Brewers
Rickie Weeks led off Sunday's game with a solo home run, powering the Brewers to a 6-5 victory over the Rockies in Cactus League action.
Weeks finished a monster afternoon 2-for-2 plus a walk, and he also swiped his first base of the spring season. His leadoff homer victimized Jorge De La Rosa. Entering camp as the underdog in a position battle with Scooter Gennett, Weeks is doing everything in his power to earn back his spot in the lineup.
