Banuelos underwent surgery Thursday to remove a bone spur in his left elbow.
Banuelos' 2015 season will come to a close following the procedure, but at least the issue isn't anything too significant in nature. The young southpaw should be ready for spring training, at which point he'll likely battle for a rotation spot in 2016.

Banuelos (elbow) will likely be shut down for the season, MLB.com reports.
A visit to Dr. James Andrews is on tap for Banuelos after he recently reported renewed soreness in his surgically-repaired elbow. Assistant GM John Coppolella said that the team doesn't think there is "anything significant there," but the Braves have all the reason to be cautious with the lefty, so they will likely turn back to Matt Wisler to fill a rotation spot.
Wed Sep 9 201517:43Manny Banuelos: Scratched From Friday Start
Banuelos will not make his scheduled start Friday due to elbow soreness and will visit Dr. James Andrews next week, Kevin McAlpin of 680 The Fan reports.
Banuelos reportedly visited Dr. Andrews earlier while on his rehab assignment, and while he has now structural damage, he's been dealing with some pain since his last start Sunday. As a result he'll miss at least his next scheduled outing Friday, but the Braves haven't announced who will start in his place at this point.

Gave up three runs on six hits and a walk while striking out zero Marlins over 2.2 innings Tuesday.
This was the lefty's first start in more than a month, and he was not anticipated to throw more than 60 pitches in his return from an elbow injury. Unfortunately after 52 pitches he had already given up plenty of runs/baserunners, so it turned out to be a very inefficient return to the rotation for Banuelos. That said, the Braves will probably let him make at least one more start, as production is not as important as development at this point for the young players on Atlanta's roster. His next start would come Sunday in Washington.
Tue Sep 1 201514:29Banuelos officially activated from DL to start Tuesday's game
Banuelos was officially activated from the DL to start Tuesday's game.
Banuelos, on the DL with a bone spur in his elbow, will take the rotation spot vacated by Williams Perez, who was optioned to Triple-A. The Braves have made it clear that Banuelos won't see a high pitch count - likely in the 50-to-55 pitch range - so he's not much of a fantasy option Tuesday night.

Atlanta Braves pitcher Manny Banuelos was activated from the disabled list Tuesday after recovering from an elbow injury. Banuelos will immediately rejoin the rotation and start Tuesday's game against the Miami Marlins, although he is likely to be on a restricted pitch count initially.

Banuelos (elbow) will be activated from the disabled list to start Tuesday, MLB.com's Mark Bowman reports.
Banuelos will take the rotation spot of Williams Perez, who was sent down to Triple-A over the weekend. The Braves are hoping to get no more than about 50 or 55 pitches out of the young hurler, who's been out since July 24, so expect to see them go to the bullpen early Tuesday.

Banuelos (elbow) is expected to rejoin Atlanta when rosters expand in September, but he's not ready to throw more than three innings at a time, Mark Bowman of MLB.com reports.
The lefty has made a pair of rehab starts within the past week, most recently tossing two shutout innings with two strikeouts for Triple-A Gwinnett on Thursday. Williams Perez was optioned down Saturday, but it doesn't sound like Banuelos will be an option to fill a rotation spot in the near future, as the Braves will remain cautious with the 24-year-old and his surgically-repaired elbow.

Banuelos (elbow) will have his rehab start Thursday transferred to Triple-A Gwinnett, David O'Brien of the Atlanta Journal-Constitution reports.
Banuelos continues to work his way back from elbow inflammation that sent him to the disabled list July 28, but his rehab process will be a bit expedited with the latest news. Assuming no setbacks occur, Banuelos could be ready to rejoin the Braves' rotation in early-to-mid September.
Wed Jul 29 201516:45Banuelos' MRI revealed bone spur on back of elbow
Banuelos' MRI revealed a bone spur on the back of his elbow, but the Braves believe he'll pitch again this season, Mark Bowman of MLB.com reports.
Banuelos landed on the disabled list Tuesday due to inflammation in his pitching elbow, and Wednesday's MRI showed a bone spur. While this isn't a great sign, there is also no report of ligament damage in Banuelos' elbow either, which leads to the organization's optimism that he'll pitch again this year. With the discovery of the bone spur, however, Banuelos is unlikely to be ready to come off the disabled list when he's eligible on August 9.
Tue Jul 28 201514:16Banuelos placed on DL, retroactive to July 25
Banuelos has been placed on the DL, retroactive to July 25.
Banuelos is dealing with inflammation in his left elbow, so he'll be shut down temporarily. In a corresponding move, the Braves called up right-hander David Carpenter from Triple-A to take his spot on the 25-man roster. Banuelos was slated to start Wednesday's game against Baltimore, and Atlanta is yet to announce who will take the hill in his place.

Banuelos (1-2) lasted just five innings Friday, allowing four runs on six hits and three walks in a 4-2 loss to the Cardinals.
This was easily Banuelos' worst start of his young career as this was his first start allowing more than a single run. The big concern for the young lefty are the walks, as he has walked three batters in three straight starts without lasting more than six innings. It appears he'll remain in the rotation for the time being, but if he continues to struggle his spot may be in jeopardy. Banuelos has a tough matchup in store for his next start when he toes the rubber against the Orioles on Wednesday.

Banuelos (1-1) lasted just 4.2 innings in Saturday's loss to the Cubs, allowing two runs (one earned) on six hits and three walks while striking out four.
Banuelos has been very lucky to start his major league career, as he entered this game with a 100 percent strand rate in his first three appearances. His current 1.08 ERA looks fantastic as a result, but the 24-year-old has shown some chinks in the armor due to an inability to pitch deep into games. The rookie still hasn't gotten out of the sixth inning in three starts, and now has seven walks in just 16.2 innings. Banuelos is approaching his innings limit for the season, so owners should tread carefully even if he makes his next scheduled start Friday against the Cardinals.
Thu Jul 16 201517:36Manny Banuelos: Will Start Saturday
Banuelos will start Saturday against the Cubs, Mark Bowman of MLB.com reports.
The Braves have acknowledged that Banuelos is nearing his innings limit for the season, though they have not disclosed a firm number -- he currently sits at 94.2 frames between Triple-A and the majors. Apparently, the team wants Banuelos to make at least one start, after maxing out at 76.1 innings last year in his first season back from Tommy John surgery.
Sat Jul 11 201512:17Banuelos will face innings limit this season
Banuelos will face an innings limit this season, Mark Bowman of MLB.com reports.
This only makes sense considering Banuelos, the one-time top prospect for the Yankees, was shelved for nearly two years due to Tommy John surgery. With Williams Perez (foot) set to return from the DL after the All-Star break and the team considering returning Mike Foltynewicz to a starting role, it seems the 24-year-old lefty could transition to the bullpen. Banuelos looked promising in his two starts against the Nationals and Brewers, allowing just one run in 11 innings on the mound.
Sat Jul 11 201510:17Manny Banuelos: Will Have Inning Limit This Season
Atlanta Braves starting pitcher Manny Banuelos is on an innings limit this season, according to MLB.com.
Atlanta Braves starting pitcher Manny Banuelos is on an innings limit this season, according to MLB.com. Banuelos, a one-time top prospect for the New York Yankees, missed nearly two years after undergoing Tommy John surgery, and with Williams Perez expected to return from his foot injury after the All-Star break and Mike Foltynewicz possibly moving into the rotation, Banuelos will likely transition to the bullpen to limit his usage. "I know there is a number out there, but I think if you follow it every individual is different," Braves manager Fredi Gonzalez said. "I think with every case you have to be willing to do something different. But nobody has set a shutdown date or anything like that." Banuelos has allowed just one run in 11 innings this season, coming against the Washington Nationals and Milwaukee Brewers, after pitching just 76.1 innings in the minors last year.
