Tue May 718:24Chris Martin Available On TuesdayChris MartinRPBravesFree Agent
Boston Red Sox relief pitcher Chris Martin (shoulder) is available ahead of Tuesday's game against the Atlanta Braves. The right-hander was held out over the weekend due to soreness in his shoulder. There was some thought that Martin would be placed on the injured list. Instead, Martin appears to be feeling better and is ready for the series opener versus Atlanta. His return is a significant boost to the Red Sox bullpen.

Tue May 718:17Jorge Soler Remains Out On TuesdayJorge SolerDHRoyalsFree Agent
San Francisco Giants outfielder Jorge Soler (shoulder) remains out of the starting lineup ahead of Tuesday's game against the Colorado Rockies. The 32-year-old has been sidelined since last weekend due to a right shoulder issue. For now, Soler is considered as day-to-day and should be available off the bench. In the meantime, Wilmer Flores will serve as the designated hitter and bat fifth versus right-hander Dakota Hudson. Fantasy managers should adjust their lineups accordingly.

Tue May 717:23Spencer Turnbull To Pitch In Relief TuesdaySpencer TurnbullSPTigersFree Agent
Philadelphia Phillies right-hander Spencer Turnbull will pitch in relief at some point after left-handed starter Cristopher Sanchez on Tuesday against the visiting Toronto Blue Jays, most likely for three innings or so. "We've got a plan," manager Rob Thomson said. It sounds like a piggyback situation for Turnbull, who has essentially been bumped from the starting rotation despite his 1.67 ERA and 0.83 WHIP with 36 strikeouts in 32 1/3 innings in his first six starts of the season. Turnbull hasn't thrown more than 56 2/3 innings in a season since 2019, though, so it probably is better off for him anyway. The 31-year-old veteran will obviously lose the majority of his fantasy appeal if he's not starting, but he could get another chance down the road for the Phillies.

Alec Bohm3BPhilliesFree Agent
Philadelphia Phillies catcher J.T. Realmuto and third baseman Alec Bohm are both getting the day off on Tuesday against the visiting Toronto Blue Jays. Outfielder Johan Rojas is also sitting. Garrett Stubbs is catching and hitting ninth, Kody Clemens is at third base and is batting eighth, and Brandon Marsh is in center field and hitting fifth against Blue Jays right-hander Jose Berrios. Whit Merrifield is also in left field and in the two-hole. This will be Bohm's first day off since April 15 after he broke his 18-game hitting streak with an 0-for-4 performance in Monday's win over the Giants. Merrifield could be a popular DFS play on Tuesday with a .354 average and .936 OPS with a home run and eight RBI in 48 career at-bats against Berrios.

Tue May 717:12Luis Rengifo, Taylor Ward Out TuesdayTaylor Ward3BAngelsFree Agent
Luis Rengifo2BAngelsFree Agent
Los Angeles Angels infielder Luis Rengifo (illness) and outfielder Taylor Ward are not starting for the Angels on Tuesday against the Pittsburgh Pirates. Rengifo has been out since coming down with an illness on Saturday. Ward appears to be getting a regular day of rest. Cole Tucker is starting at third base and is batting eighth, while Kevin Pillar is in left field and is batting fifth against Pirates right-hander Quinn Priester. When Rengifo gets over his illness, he should be a lineup regular for the Halos due to injuries and the fact he's hitting .330 (30-for-91) with two homers, 11 RBI and nine stolen bases so far in 2024. Ward, who is batting .271/.302/.471 with seven home runs and 24 RBI, will be counted on for even more production in the heart of the team's batting order with Mike Trout (knee) out.

Tue May 716:55Cody Bellinger Activated From Injured ListCody BellingerCFDodgersFree Agent
The Chicago Cubs have activated outfielder Cody Bellinger (ribs) from the 10-day injured list on Tuesday and optioned outfielder Alexander Canario to the minors in a corresponding move. The club also placed pitcher Daniel Palencia (shoulder) on the IL with shoulder stiffness and recalled pitcher Keegan Thompson from the minors. The Cubs haven't posted their starting lineup on Tuesday against the visiting San Diego Padres yet, but if Bellinger is back in there, fantasy managers will want to get him right back in their lineups as well. The 28-year-old left-handed slugger is returning from a fracture in his right ribcage and will start regularly in center field now that he's back. Rookie Pete Crow-Armstrong and Mike Tauchman could now be battling for more playing time with Bellinger back.

Tue May 716:38Diamondbacks Reinstate Paul Sewald From Injured ListPaul SewaldRPMetsFree Agent
The Arizona Diamondbacks officially reinstated closer Paul Sewald (oblique) from the 15-day injured list on Tuesday and optioned right-hander Scott McGough to Triple-A Reno in a corresponding move. Sewald has returned from his oblique strain and should immediately return to closing duties for the Diamondbacks out of the bullpen, although he could see some extra days off as he gets eased back into the fold. In his absence, Kevin Ginkel had five saves in his 14 appearances, but he'll now go back into more of a setup role in front of Sewald. Sewald will be making his 2024 debut for the Snakes when he gets into a game after posting a career-high 34 saves with the D-backs and Seattle Mariners in 2023. Thirteen of his 34 saves came during the regular season with Arizona.

Tue May 716:32Gabriel Moreno Sitting Against RedsGabriel MorenoCBlue JaysFree Agent
Arizona Diamondbacks catcher Gabriel Moreno is not in the starting lineup on Tuesday against the Cincinnati Reds. Tucker Barnhart will do the catching for right-hander Zac Gallen and will hit eighth against Reds right-hander Frankie Montas. It's the second straight game that Moreno will take a seat on the bench in favor of Barnhart. The D-backs are just trying to give the young catcher some extra rest early in the season. The 24-year-old should be back in there on Wednesday. Through his first 87 at-bats of the year, he's hitting .241/.340/.322 with no home runs and 14 RBI. Barnhart is hitting .750 in four career at-bats against Montas but will be a low-upside play in DFS at the bottom of Arizona's lineup.

Tue May 716:10Ian Gibaut Moved To 60-Day Injured ListIan GibautSPRangersFree Agent
In a flurry of roster moves by the Cincinnati Reds on Tuesday, right-hander Ian Gibaut (forearm) was transferred to the 60-day injured list. The Reds also optioned infielder/outfielder Nick Martini and outfielder Bubba Thompson to Triple-A Louisville and Double-A Chattanooga, respectively, and selected the contract of outfielder Conner Capel from Louisville. Gibaut is dealing with a lingering strained right forearm after he was initially shut down from throwing in late April. The 30-year-old now won't be eligible to come off the IL until late May, and even that seems optimistic with the way his recovery has gone this year. Gibaut was a key pitcher for the Reds in 2023, going 8-4 with a 3.33 ERA, a 1.28 WHIP, three saves and a career-high 69 strikeouts in 75 2/3 frames in 74 relief appearances.

Tue May 716:05Jeimer Candelario Back In Action TuesdayJeimer Candelario3BTigersFree Agent
Cincinnati Reds corner infielder Jeimer Candelario (shin) is back at third base and is hitting eighth in the batting order on Tuesday against the visiting Arizona Diamondbacks and right-hander Zac Gallen. Candelario was scratched from Sunday's lineup with a left-shin contusion but is good to go now after Monday's scheduled off day. The 30-year-old will now look to get going at the plate after starting his first year in Cincinnati slow. However, he has gone 6-for-18 with a home run in his last five contests, so perhaps he's already starting to heat up. The switch-hitter is currently slashing .190/.274/.360 with three homers and 10 RBI in his first 100 at-bats in 2024. It's a tough matchup in his return from injury, and he's gone hitless in three career at-bats against Gallen.

Tue May 715:11Tyler Nevin, Shea Langeliers Sitting On TuesdayTyler Nevin1BOriolesFree Agent
Shea LangeliersCBravesFree Agent
Oakland Athletics corner infielder/outfielder Tyler Nevin and catcher Shea Langeliers are both starting on the bench on Tuesday against the visiting Texas Rangers. Nevin will head to the bench after going hitless in his last 14 at-bats. Despite his recent slump, the 26-year-old is still slashing a solid .277/.349/.426 on the year with four home runs, 10 RBI, a steal and 11 runs scored in 94 at-bats for the A's. Langeliers will get the day off in a day game after a night game. He's hitting just .179 (19-for-106) on the year but has shown nice power with seven homers and 16 RBI in the early going. Brett Harris is starting at third base and batting ninth, while Kyle McCann is doing the catching and hitting sixth for the A's on Tuesday against Rangers right-hander Jose Urena.

Tue May 714:58Nathan Eovaldi Playing CatchNathan EovaldiSPRed SoxFree Agent
Texas Rangers starting pitcher Nathan Eovaldi (groin) is playing catch after rejoining the team on Monday after meeting with doctors in New York. Eovaldi was placed on the 15-day injured list on May 3 with a strained right groin. The hope is Eovaldi won't need a minor-league rehab assignment and can return to the rotation on May 18 once he is eligible to come off the IL. Eovaldi is 2-2 with a 2.61 ERA this season in five starts and he's given up just 10 runs and has 33 strikeouts. The right-hander has been a great fantasy option this season, as he's gone at least 5 1/3 innings in every outing and has allowed three or fewer runs in four of his starts. With Eovaldi on the IL, Jose Urena and Jack Leiter will be starting for the Rangers.

Tue May 714:51Estevan Florial Batting Leadoff AgainEstevan FlorialCFYankeesFree Agent
Outfielder Estevan Florial is batting leadoff for the Cleveland Guardians on Tuesday. Florial batted leadoff for Cleveland on Monday and went 1-for-3 in the Guardians win. The left fielder is slashing .206/.286/.429 with three home runs and nine RBI. Florial will set up the middle of the Guardians order of Andres Gimenez, Jose Ramirez, and Josh Naylor, who helped Cleveland beat Detroit on Monday. Florial will continue to get run in left field and in the leadoff spot with outfielder Steven Kwan (hamstring) out due to an injury, so he is a viable fantasy option for the next four weeks while Kwan is on the injured list.

Tue May 714:30No Timetable For Jose Abreu's MLB ReturnJosé Abreu1BWhite SoxFree Agent
Houston Astros manager Joe Espada told SportsTalk790 that there is no timetable for first baseman Jose Abreu to return to the big-league roster. Abreu was sent down to the Florida Complex League on April 30 to help with his swing. Before being optioned, Abreu struggled at the plate, slashing .099/.156/.113 with zero home runs and three RBI. With Abreu in the minor leagues, Houston has been starting Jon Singleton at first base. Singleton is slashing .258/.329/.435 this season with three home runs and eight RBI. If Abreu does return to the MLB, he will need to prove he can produce offensively to be an everyday player for the Astros once again.

Tue May 714:25Oneil Cruz Out Of The LineupOneil Cruz3BPiratesFree Agent
Shortstop Oneil Cruz is not in the Pittsburgh Pirates lineup on Tuesday against the Los Angeles Angels. The Pirates shortstop will not be in the lineup due to Los Angeles starting left-hander Patrick Sandoval. Cruz, who bats left-handed, has struggled against left-handers this season, as he's slashing .132/.154/.211. With Cruz out of the lineup, Pittsburgh will be starting Alika Williams at shortstop, who will be batting ninth. Williams is slashing .275/.310/.400 this season. Cruz should be back in the lineup on Wednesday with a right-hander pitcher on the mound for the Angels. The shortstop will also be available off the bench as a pinch-hitter on Tuesday.

Tue May 714:16Reds Activate Frankie Montas From Injured ListFrankie MontasSPAthleticsFree Agent
The Cincinnati Reds have activated starting pitcher Frankie Montas (forearm) from the 15-day injured list. Montas has been on the injured list since April 22 due to a forearm injury. After throwing a couple of bullpen sessions, Montas was activated and will be starting for Cincinnati on Tuesday against the Arizona Diamondbacks. Montas has started five games this season and is 2-2 with a 4.19 ERA with 14 strikeouts. One possible concern for fantasy managers is the fact that Montas did not have a minor-league rehab outing or get into game action, as he just did bullpen sessions. He's also facing a Diamondbacks offense that is slashing .249/.325/.389, which ranks eighth, seventh, and 14th, respectively, in the majors.

Tue May 712:34Dany Jimenez Optioned To Las VegasDany JiménezRPAthleticsFree Agent
The Oakland Athletics optioned right-hander Dany Jimenez to Triple-A Las Vegas on Tuesday and selected right-hander Tyler Ferguson's contract from Las Vegas in a corresponding move. The club also designated outfielder Lazaro Armenteros for assignment. Jimenez has struggled of late out of Oakland's bullpen, posting a 5.40 ERA, 1.50 WHIP, eight walks and nine strikeouts in his last 10 innings. However, the 30-year-old didn't allow an earned run in his first five appearances of the season, so his overall ERA of 3.68 doesn't look too bad. The Dominican reliever will likely be back with Oakland at some point after going to the minors to work on the command of his pitches. With Jimenez out of the picture for the time being, Lucas Erceg and Austin Adams will be the A's primary setup men in front of impressive young closer Mason Miller.

Tue May 712:18Gary Sanchez Slugs Fourth Homer Of The SeasonGary SánchezCYankeesFree Agent
Milwaukee Brewers catcher Gary Sanchez brought in the only two runs on Monday in the loss to the Kansas City Royals. Sanchez went 1-for-4, with his only hit being a two-run home run, while striking out once. The 31-year-old catcher has been trying to improve his slow start to the season, hitting .212 (11-for-52) through 20 games. He has recorded three doubles, four homers, six runs, eight RBI, three walks and 10 strikeouts. He remains most relevant in two-catcher leagues for his pop and while being the backup to William Contreras. The tough matchups for the Brewers catcher will continue this week, finishing up in Kansas City before hosting the St. Louis Cardinals.

Tue May 712:16Matt Carpenter Moving Rehab To Triple-AMatt Carpenter3BCardinalsFree Agent
St. Louis Cardinals first baseman/designated hitter Matt Carpenter (oblique) is moving his minor-league rehab assignment to Triple-A Memphis, according to manager Oliver Marmol. Memphis was off on Monday and will return to action on Tuesday. In two games with Double-A Springfield over the weekend, Carpenter went 1-for-6 with an RBI and two runs scored. The 38-year-old veteran has been on the injured list since April 2 with a right-oblique strain. The three-time All-Star is getting close to a return to the major-league lineup, but he offers virtually zero upside for those playing fantasy after slashing .176/.322/.319 with five home runs and 31 RBI in 76 games last year with the San Diego Padres. At best, he'll be an option at DH for the Cardinals against right-handed pitching when he returns.

Tue May 712:00Tyler Matzek Lands On 15-Day Injured ListTyler MatzekSPBravesFree Agent
The Atlanta Braves placed left-hander Tyler Matzek (elbow) on the 15-day injured list (retroactive to May 5) with left-elbow inflammation on Tuesday and recalled left-hander Ray Kerr from the minors in a corresponding move. It's not a good sign for a pitcher that missed all of last season following Tommy John surgery. In addition to his injury, the 33-year-old veteran reliever has not been good so far in 2024, allowing 11 earned runs on 16 hits (three home runs) while walking three and striking out 10 in 10 innings out of Atlanta's bullpen. Given the fact that he missed all of last year due to injury, it seems likely that Matzek won't be able to return to the Braves' bullpen when he's eligible to come off the 15-day IL.
