Hulett was signed to a minor league deal by the Rockies over the winter, but they decided to let him go after making a trade for Brad Emaus. Hulett will provide depth at Triple-A for the Nats.

Rockies signed INF Tug Hulett to a minor league contract.
Hulett failed to climb to the majors in 2010 after inking a minor league contract with the Red Sox then the Mariners. He finished with a .223/.339/.371 batting line over 350 at-bats for two Triple-A clubs.

Mariners signed INF Tug Hulett to a minor league contract.
He was assigned to Triple-A Tacoma. Hulett was released by the Red Sox after being designated for assignment earlier this month. He was batting .201 with four home runs and 29 RBI in 284 at-bats with Triple-A Pawtucket.

Hulett can hit a little, but since he's not much of a shortstop, he hasn't been tried as a utilityman while the Red Sox have dealt with their infield injuries. Time will tell if anyone will pick him up off waivers.

The roster move will open a spot on the team's 40-man roster. Hulett, who was acquired from the Royals over the winter, is batting .175/.307/.311 with four home runs and 22 RBI in 212 at-bats with the PawSox this season.
