Hughes was 1-for-13 in four games with the A's after being claimed off waivers from the Twins and was hitting just .223 with three homers and a .654 OPS in 42 games between Double-A Midland and Triple-A Sacramento. The 27-year-old Aussie will attempt to latch on elsewhere. |

Athletics sent INF Luke Hughes from Triple-A Sacramento to Double-A Midland. |
This move was made to open up roster space on the Triple-A roster for Daric Barton and Tyson Ross. Hughes will continue to serve as organizational depth for the A's and can continue to be ignored for fantasy purposes. |

Athletics designated 3B Luke Hughes for assignment. |
The A's claimed Hughes off waivers from the Twins just eight days ago, but they've already found a replacement for him in Brandon Inge. The 27-year-old Australian will probably try to find a gig in a different organization. |

Luke Hughes went 0-for-3 and committed another error Tuesday in his second game for the A's. |
Hughes is 0-for-6 with two errors in two days as Oakland's third baseman. Still, he'll probably get another start Wednesday anyway, as the A's won't want the left-handed Eric Sogard facing lefty Chris Sale. |

Tue Apr 24 2012 | 01:04 | Luke Hughes goes hitless in A's debut |
Luke Hughes went 0-for-3 and committed two throwing errors from third base Monday in his A's debut. |
Way to make a first impression, Luke. We don't get why the A's keep bypassing Eric Sogard in favor of inferior players. Hughes has some power, but there isn't a whole lot else to his game. |

Mon Apr 23 2012 | 18:46 | Hughes starting at third base Monday |
Luke Hughes will start at third base Monday against the White Sox. |
Hughes was just claimed off waivers from the Athletics on Sunday and should get a significant chance at playing time now that Josh Donaldson has been send down to the minors. The 27-year-old has a lowly .224/.285/.342 batting line in the majors, but he's worth a look in AL-only formats. |

Sun Apr 22 2012 | 15:05 | Luke Hughes to get shot at 3B |
Luke Hughes, who was claimed off waivers by the Athletics Sunday, is expected to get a chance to compete for playing time at third base. |
Jane Lee of MLB.com speculates that Josh Donaldson, who has just three singles in his first 32 at-bats, could be sent down. Hughes has a woeful .224/.285/.342 batting line in 335 plate appearances, but he's shown a little bit of pop in the minors, so it's possible he could churn out some value in deeper AL-only leagues. |

Athletics claimed INF Luke Hughes off waivers from the Twins. |

Twins designated INF Luke Hughes for assignment. |
The move clears a spot for Wednesday's starter Jason Marquis on the active roster. Hughes was 2-for-10 to begin the season and batted just .223/.289/.338 over 317 plate appearances with the big club last year. Still, the 27-year-old has some pop and is capable of playing multiple infield positions, so somebody will probably take a chance on him. |

Sat Mar 24 2012 | 18:58 | Luke Hughes goes 5-for-5, homers |
Luke Hughes went 5-for-5 with a homer, two doubles and five RBI as the Twins crushed the Rays 19-4 on Saturday. |
Hughes' spot on the Twins' bench was already looking pretty secure, but this won't hurt. The Australian infielder has three homers and four doubles in 36 at-bats this spring. If he can stay hot, the Twins might look for ways to get him into the lineup early on, rather than just relying on him as a fallback. |

Wed Mar 21 2012 | 16:18 | Luke Hughes hits three-run homer in win |
Luke Hughes went 2-for-3 with a three-run homer and a walk Wednesday in the Twins' 7-3 win over the Tigers. |
Unless Minnesota picks up a reserve infielder between now and Opening Day, Hughes figures to stick around as a utilityman. He's not much of a shortstop and he has issues making contact, so he shouldn't have any fantasy value at all. |

Mon Mar 19 2012 | 09:51 | Hughes expected to make Twins' roster |
Luke Hughes is expected to have a backup job on Minnesota's Opening Day roster. |
The Twins optioned Japanese shortstop Tsuyoshi Nishioka to Triple-A Rochester on Monday, clearing a spot on the middle-infield depth chart. Hughes, 27, is 6-for-25 with two doubles, a home run and three RBI this spring in Grapefruit League play. |

Luke Hughes threw for the first time Wednesday since injuring his right shoulder during winter ball. |

A second opinion on Hughes' MRI showed only inflammation and he hopes to resume baseball activities as soon as next week. The 27-year-old batted just .223/.289/.338 over 317 plate appearances in 2011 and will compete for a bench job this spring. |

Wed Feb 22 2012 | 09:06 | MRI on Hughes' shoulder shows no damage |
A second opinion of the MRI on Luke Hughes' right shoulder showed inflammation and no structural damage. |
Hughes was diagnosed with shoulder strain two weeks ago following a home-plate collision while playing for the Perth Heat of the Australian winter league. He's a little behind in the early days of camp, but should have plenty of time to get ready for the season. The 27-year-old batted just .223/.289/.338 with seven homers, 30 RBI and a .627 over 317 plate appearances in 2011. |

Sun Feb 19 2012 | 15:42 | Luke Hughes won't swing a bat this week |
Luke Hughes (shoulder) won't resume swinging a bat until next week, at the earliest. |
Hughes is recovering from a sprained right shoulder and isn't expected to be up to speed for another few weeks. Assuming he doesn't have any setbacks, he should be fine by the time the season rolls around. Hughes batted just .223/.289/.338 over 317 plate appearances in 2011. |

Fri Feb 10 2012 | 15:16 | Luke Hughes sidelined 3-4 weeks |
An MRI on Luke Hughes' right shoulder has revealed a sprain, and the infielder will be sidelined for 3-4 weeks. |
The good news is that the Twins' first Grapefruit League contest is just over three weeks away, so he shouldn't really be behind schedule. Hughes was injured in a home-plate collision while playing for the Perth Heat of the Australian winter league. "The timing's about right," Twins general manager Terry Ryan said. "So this is encouraging." |
