Renyel Pinto has signed a contract with the Softbank Hawks of Nippon Professional Baseball.

Pinto was given a one-year contract worth around $910,000 in US dollars. The 29-year-old left-hander had a nice showing in the Venezuelan Winter League this offseason and should fare well this year in Japan.

According to the Japanese website Sponichi, the the Softbank Hawks are trying to lure left-hander Renyel Pinto to Japan.

Pinto didn't pitch professionally this past season, but currently has a 2.55 ERA and 72/32 K/BB ratio over 77 2/3 innings with Caribes de Anzoategui in the Venezuelan Winter League. The 29-year-old southapw has also drawn interest from the Orioles this offseason. He hasn't pitched in the big leagues since 2010 as a member of the Marlins.

According to MASN's Roch Kubatko, the Orioles are interested in signing left-hander Renyel Pinto.

The O's have scouted Pinto over the past week in the Venezuela Winter League, and director of international operations David Stockstill met with him recently. The southpaw is likely to accept a minor league deal.

The left-hander signed on with the Cardinals in late June after being dumped by the Marlins but posted a 1.75 WHIP in 18 outings at Triple-A Memphis.

Joe Capozzi of the Palm Beach Post reports that left-handed reliever Renyel Pinto is close to signing a contract with the Cardinals.

Pinto was released by the Marlins last week despite a strong 2.81 ERA in 16 2/3 innings of relief. The Cards have lefties Dennys Reyes and Trever Miller in their 'pen, but could use Pinto as more of a middle reliever or setup man. His numbers against right-handers are typically adequate.

Pinto was designated for assignment last week despite posting a 2.81 ERA and a respectable 16/9 K/BB ratio in relief for the Marlins. At age 27, he should have no trouble getting a shot with another organization.

Pinto was activated from the disabled list just one day ago, so the Marlins must have grown sick of him quickly. With a 2.81 ERA, a 16/9 K/BB ratio, and age on his side, the 27-year-old will draw interest elsewhere.
