Fri Apr 8 201113:37Tyler Yates suffers setback
RHP Tyler Yates, who last appeared in a major-league game on May 15, 2009 before undergoing Tommy John surgery, has been diagnosed with a torn flexor tendon in his right elbow.
He will not be re-evaluated for another six weeks. Set to turn 34 this summer, Yates' elbow woes are very much threatening his major-league career.

Tue Feb 22 201117:22Yates (elbow) to throw side session Wednesday
Tyler Yates (elbow) is expected to throw a supervised side session on Wednesday.
Yates hasn't experienced any setbacks with his rehab from Tommy John surgery, but pitching coach Ray Searage would rather have him work on the side on Wednesday than throw batting practice. If all goes according to plan, Yates will pitch one inning in Friday's exhibition game against the State College of Florida, Manatee-Sarasota. The 33-year-old right-hander was re-signed to a minor league deal in December and hopes to win a spot in the Bucs' bullpen.

Mon Feb 14 201109:52Yates recovered from Tommy John surgery
Tyler Yates is fully recovered from Tommy John surgery and expects to have no limitations during spring training.
Yates hasn't pitched in a professional game since undergoing the procedure in July of 2009. The Pirates re-signed him to a minor league deal last month, so if healthy, he could contend for a spot in the bullpen during spring training.

Tue Jan 11 201112:48Yates (elbow) throws successful bullpener
Tyler Yates (elbow) threw a bullpen session Tuesday in Florida.
Yates is still in recovery mode from Tommy John surgery and might be a little behind the other Pirates pitchers when spring training opens next month. He was re-signed to a minor league contract this winter, though, and should make a few appearances in the big leagues during the 2011 season.

Tue Dec 21 201015:11Yates re-signs with Pirates
Pirates re-signed RHP Tyler Yates to a minor league contract.
Yates had to be shut down this past season after experiencing complications with his surgically-repaired right elbow. It's not clear what the exact status of his elbow is at this point. He's an unlikely candidate to make the bullpen.
Tue Jun 22 201019:24Yates to miss rest of season
Tyler Yates will miss the rest of the season due to complications with his surgically-repaired right elbow.
We haven't heard an official word from the team about the specific nature of the setback, but Yates was in the process of working his way back from Tommy John surgery last July. The 32-year-old right-hander posted a 7.50 ERA in 15 appearances with the Buccos last season, but he won't be a factor in the team's plans this season.
