Sat Sep 18 201022:28LaRue says concussion has ended his career
Jason LaRue told the St. Louis Post-Dispatch on Saturday that he will retire due to concerns over his season-ending concussion.
LaRue was kicked in the face multiple times by Reds pitcher Johnny Cueto during a scuffle in Cincinnati back in August. He's still experiencing headaches and nausea, something he likened to seasickness. "It's one of the hardest things in the world to explain," said the catcher. "You don't feel right. ... I'm done. It's a simple decision." The 36-year-old is likely to officially file retirement papers this offseason. He had a .231/.315/.396 career batting line.

Thu Aug 19 201013:25Cards transfer Jason LaRue to 60-day DL
Cardinals transferred C Jason LaRue from the 15-day disabled list to the 60-day disabled list.
This means he really is done for the season. LaRue suffered a concussion when he was kicked in the head by Reds' pitcher Johnny Cueto last week. Barring a trade for a veteran, Bryan Anderson will continue to function as the primary backup for Yadier Molina.
Wed Aug 18 201014:51LaRue (concussion) could miss rest of season
Cardinals general manager John Mozeliak didn't dismiss the possibility that Jason LaRue (concussion) could miss the rest of the season.
"I'm concerned. I don't think we've crossed the bridge yet to determine if he's going to miss the remaining part of the season," said Mozeliak. "But given the fact that we're now 10 days out (edit: eight days) from that injury, it's concerning. Right now I think we're just going to let him have some rest and get away from this a little and he'll be reevaluated early next week." LaRue suffered a concussion when he was kicked in the head by Johnny Cueto during a benches-clearing melee last Tuesday. As of now, Bryan Anderson is the primary backup for Yadier Molina.

Fri Aug 13 201020:19Cards place LaRue on DL with concussion
Cardinals placed C Jason LaRue on the 15-day disabled list, retroactive to August 4, with a concussion.
LaRue took the brunt of Johnny Cueto's kung-fu action during Tuesday night's benches-clearing melee against the Reds. Steve Hill will function as the primary backup for Yadier Molina during his absence.
Wed Aug 11 201008:21LaRue suffers slight concussion in melee
Jason LaRue suffered a slight concussion from being kicked in the head by Johnny Cueto during Tuesday's benches-clearing incident with the Reds.
"We're facing an issue with Jason," said Cardinals manager Tony La Russa. "He got clobbered in the head with their starting pitcher kicking. So he has a slight concussion and he has some facial tears there, and his and Carp's bodies [have abrasions]. We'll see how that's all handled." It's not known if he will require a trip to the disabled list, but even if he does, it's unlikely the team will be able to get a player to Cincinnati in time for Wednesday's matinee.

Tue Apr 27 201016:51Cards activate LaRue from DL
Cardinals activated C Jason LaRue from the 15-day disabled list.
As expected. LaRue was 0-for-4 to begin the season before hitting the disabled list with a strained right hamstring on April 14. He'll resume backing up Yadier Molina, with Bryan Anderson going back to the minors.

Jason LaRue (hamstring) expects to be activated from the 15-day disabled list when he becomes eligible on Tuesday.

Wed Apr 14 201013:07Cards place Jason LaRue on DL
Cardinals placed C Jason LaRue on the 15-day disabled list with a strained right hamstring.
LaRue tweaked his hamstring while running out a groundball against the Brewers on Sunday night. Bryan Anderson will take his place as Yadier Molina's backup catcher.
Tue Apr 13 201008:43Cardinals' LaRue likely headed to 15-day DL
Jason LaRue (hamstring) is likely to be placed on the 15-day disabled list Wednesday and Matt Pagnozzi is expected to be recalled.
LaRue suffered a strained right hamstring over the weekend and was unavailable for Monday's home opener. The Cardinals need a healthy backup and will make the transaction Wednesday if the 36-year-old LaRue is feeling no batter. As it stands, outfielder Nick Stavinoha is the club's emergency third catcher and would have to step in if Yadier Molina gets hurt.

Mon Apr 12 201008:32LaRue to have hammy examined in St. Louis
Jason LaRue will be reevaluated Monday in St. Louis after suffering a strained right hamstring Sunday.
Joe Strauss of the St. Louis Post-Dispatch suspects that a roster move may be on the horizon, meaning LaRue is likely headed for the disabled list and Matt Pagnozzi could make his way to the bigs. That said, as long as Yadier Molina is healthy, no backup catcher in St. Louis will carry fantasy value.

Sun Apr 4 201008:28LaRue to catch Cardinals' opener
Jason LaRue will be the Cardinals' catcher on Opening Day.
LaRue had missed some time with a bone bruise on his hand, but started Saturday's exhibition with the Twins and looked fine. Yadier Molina took batting practice before the game, but the Cardinals feel he could use a little more time before getting back into game action. Still, with Molina expected to return within the week, LaRue isn't worth picking up.
