Fri Mar 30 2012 | 10:04 | Matt Rizzotti acquired by Twins |
Twins acquired 1B Matt Rizzotti from the Phillies in exchange for cash considerations. |
With Justin Morneau expected to be in the DH spot rather than at first base, the Twins are probably wanting to add a little depth at the position. A former sixth-round pick, Rizzotti batted .295/.392/.511 with 24 homers at Triple-A last season. The 26-year-old was not ranked by Baseball America among the Phillies' top 30 prospects. |

Tue Jul 12 2011 | 05:36 | Matt Rizzotti clubs 17th homer |
Matt Rizzotti hit a walk-off homer on Monday, propelling Double-A Reading to a 7-6 win. |
It was Rizzotti's 17th jack of the season. He is now hitting a brisk .296/.382/.520 in 321 at-bats. While his simplest path to the majors is blocked by Ryan Howard, Rizzotti could be a viable major leaguer down the road. |

Fri Jan 28 2011 | 04:03 | Prospect Rizzotti remaining at first base |
Highly touted minor leaguer Matt Rizzotti could be major league material, but it might not be in Philadelphia. |
The 25-year-old first baseman jumped from Single-A to Triple-A least season, compiling an impressive .343/.430/.555 batting line with 17 homers. However, he won't supplant Ryan Howard at first base any time soon, and he's not planning on changing positions. It's worth keeping tabs on Rizzotti in 2011; if the Phillies decide mid-season that they need one more impact player for a championship run, exchanging Rizzotti could be a great deal for both sides. |
