NEW YORK (AP) — Didi Gregorius homered twice for the second time this season, Gary Sanchez had three hits and three RBIs, and the New York Yankees romped to a 12-1 victory over Derek Jeter's Miami Marlins on Monday night.About the only Yankees bopper who didn't get in on the fun was Giancarlo Stanton, who went hitless and got booed again by the hometown fans in his first game against his former team.Aaron Judge became the fastest major leaguer to hit 60 career homers, and Gregorius finished with three RBIs. New York scored in each of the first five innings and built an 11-0 lead for Luis Severino (3-1), who allowed one hit in six scoreless innings and struck out eight.Judge hit his fourth home run this season and reached 60 in 197 games, five fewer than Mark McGwire.Jeter did not attend the game, the first between the teams since the former Yankees captain became Marlins CEO last October.Stanton went 0 for 3 with two strikeouts, a bases-loaded foulout, a walk and was hit by a pitch. NEW YORK (AP) — This was shear power by Bryce Harper. In a startling display, the Washington Nationals slugger broke his bat into two pieces, yet still hit a long home run Monday night against the New York Mets.Harper's bat shattered just above his hands, and the barrel helicoptered into the high, protective netting behind home plate on the first base side. The ball sailed far over the wall in right center at Citi Field. Harper hit his major league-leading eighth home run, a solo shot in the first inning on a 95 mph fastball from Jacob deGrom. Statcast projected the homer at 406 feet.As Harper rounded the bases, first base coach Tim Bogar picked up the few inches of lumber left in the former NL MVP's batting gloves and handed it to a bat boy.On his way back to the dugout, Harper playfully pulled up his sleeve to show his biceps.___More AP baseball: https://apnews.com/tag/MLBbaseball

NEW YORK (AP) — Another week, another ailment for the increasingly brittle Jacoby Ellsbury. The 34-year-old New York Yankees center fielder has plantar fasciitis, extending a stay on the disabled list that began with an oblique injury and was prolonged when he hurt a hip."It's just trying to get him back to a point here he can start in on baseball activities," Yankees manager Aaron Boone said Monday.Ellsbury got hurt early in spring training and has been on the disabled list since the start of the season. He did not play in any exhibition games from March 1 until March 24 because of the oblique injury and finished spring training 1 for 14.While the oblique has healed, Ellsbury received a cortisone injection to a hip on April 10 and New York had hoped he would resume baseball activities last Friday. Then his right heel started hurting."I think he's had it at times in the past. I don't think it's a serious thing," Boone said. "He's just got to get right to be able to start back on baseball... He is expected to miss six weeks. The two-time All-Star broke the same bone last September when he was hit by Cincinnati's Tyler Mahle.Todd Tomczyk, the Pirates' director of sports medicine, called the injury recurrence "very uncommon."The Pirates called up infielder Max Moroff from Triple-A Indianapolis to take Harrison's spot on the roster. Adam Frazier started in place of Harrison at second base on Monday night when the Pirates began a three-game series with Colorado.___More AP baseball: https://apnews.com/tag/MLBbaseball

NEW YORK (AP) — Yankees infielder Brandon Drury says he has batted in big league games with blurred vision caused by migraines.Drury has not played since April 6 and has been undergoing tests for the cause of the migraines. He resumed baseball activities before Monday's homestand opener against Miami and said he has been put on an anti-inflammatory medication. Drury said not all the test results have come back and the issues have not yet subsided. The 25-year-old was obtained from Arizona in February and became New York's starting third baseman.Drury says "I want nothing more than to go out there and play baseball with a clear vision and a clear head."He adds: "It's something I've battled, pretty much all the time, especially with physical activity, whether it's a workout or playing ball or whatever it is. It gets worse with activity."___More AP baseball coverage: https://apnews.com/tag/MLBbaseball

NEW YORK (AP) — Jacoby Ellsbury's latest ailment is plantar fasciitis, preventing the New York Yankees outfielder from fully resuming baseball activities. The 34-year-old center fielder has been on the disabled list since the start of the season. He did not play in any exhibition games from March 1 until March 24 because of an oblique injury and finished spring training 1 for 14.Yankees manager Aaron Boone disclosed April 3 that Ellsbury had injured a hip during his rehabilitation, and Ellsbury received a cortisone injection on April 10. New York had hoped he would resume baseball activities last Friday, but Boone said Monday the heel pain had caused another setback. Boone said the oblique had healed.Ellsbury, a backup outfielder after losing the starting center field job to Aaron Hicks last season, is guaranteed $21,142,857 annually through 2020 as part of a $153 million, seven-year contract that includes a $21 million team option for 2021 with a $5 million buyout.Ellsbury hit .264 with seven homers and 39 RBIs in 112 games last season. The concept of pitch framing is not exactly new, but it certainly seems to be under a bit more scrutiny now. There was even a bench-clearing incident earlier this month when Arizona manager Torey Lovullo started arguing with the plate umpire about St. Louis catcher Yadier Molina's framing. Lovullo said he praised Molina while using a profanity. The two had a shouting match. It's rare for something as mundane as pitch framing to cause such a dust-up, but it's clear that players, managers and umpires are becoming increasingly cognizant of the way catchers can try to influence calls on balls and strikes."I've had an umpire tell me this year that borderline pitches, I'm making them look better than what they are," Detroit catcher James McCann said. "They've known for years that we try and steal strikes. It's probably just more in the limelight now because we do have the framing numbers, and we do have umpires grades."Lovullo's complaints aside, there doesn't seem to be too much of a backlash... HOUSTON (AP) — Bartolo Colon carried a perfect game into the eighth inning and Robinson Chirinos drove in all three runs for the Texas Rangers during their 3-1 victory over the Houston Astros in 10 innings Sunday night. The 44-year-old Colon turned back the clock and dominated the defending World Series champions for seven innings, retiring his first 21 batters in an entertaining pitchers' duel with Astros ace Justin Verlander.Colon walked Carlos Correa to start the eighth before Josh Reddick lined an 0-2 delivery down the right-field line for a double that put runners at second and third, spoiling the no-hit bid as well.Opposing fans in Houston gave Colon a standing ovation. Two outs later, he was pulled with the score tied at 1.Chirinos homered in the third for the only hit off Verlander, who struck out 11 over eight innings. In the 10th, Chirinos launched a two-run double off Hector Rondon (1-1) that short-hopped the wall in straightaway center field. A look at what's happening all around the majors Monday:REMEMBER ME?Giancarlo Stanton faces his former teammates when the Marlins visit Yankee Stadium. The slugger led the majors with 59 home runs and was the NL MVP last year, then was traded to New York. Stanton is hitting .220 with three homers for the Yankees, striking out 25 times in 59 at-bats. Caleb Smith starts for Miami — he pitched for the Yanks last year, and was sent to the Marlins in a separate deal.Marlins CEO and former Yankees star Derek Jeter will not be attending the two-game series in the Bronx. "I went to a spring training game when we played New York, but it would be an awkward situation for me to actually go to Yankee Stadium," he said last week.A BIT WARMERThe Chicago White Sox begin a series at Oakland, where the gametime temperature for the opener is supposed to be in the low 50s. That's still a lot better than what they left behind in Minnesota, where a blizzard helped wipe out the last three games of their series... [More]

NEW YORK (AP) — Jackie Robinson's daughter thinks black baseball players are more reluctant to speak publicly about racial issues than their NFL and NBA colleagues because they constitute a lower percentage of rosters. She spoke at Citi Field on Sunday to mark Jackie Robinson Day, the 71st anniversary of her father breaking Major League Baseball's color barrier with the Brooklyn Dodgers. While more than 200 NFL players protested racial inequality last season by kneeling or sitting during "The Star-Spangled Banner," Oakland Athletics catcher Bruce Maxwell was the only baseball player to take a knee."I don't think they have much choice," Sharon Robinson said. "They are in the minority and where in football and basketball you have a group and therefore you can take a group action. So players if they speak out individually, they could be the only African-American player on their team and it could be a difficult spot for them to be in."The percentage of black players from the United States and...
