Sun Sep 19 202105:53Carlos Carrasco Exits Saturday’s Start With Thumb Injury
New York Mets pitcher Carlos Carrasco (thumb) was removed from Saturday's 5-3 loss against the Philadelphia Phillies early with a thumb issue. He hurt his thumb after fouling off a pitch during his second at-bat. The Mets right-hander was removed after 82 pitches. Carrasco allowed two runs on five hits and two walks while striking out five over six innings before exiting. He was tagged with his third loss of the season. Carrasco was hurt by the long ball and surrendered solo shots to Phillies infielder Jean Segura. The severity of the 34-year-old's thumb issue is unknown at this time, and Carrasco is considered day-to-day. Stay tuned.

Mon Sep 13 202107:58Carlos Carrasco With Uneven Start Against Yankees
New York Mets starting pitcher Carlos Carrasco went five innings, allowing two earned runs on three hits and four walks in the Mets 7-6 win over the Yankees on Sunday. Carrasco did manage to strike out five batters, but the walks added to his pitch count, resulting in his only going five innings for the second start in a row. He did not factor into the decision. Though he has had a rocky shortened season, over his last four starts Carrasco has a 3.22 ERA, 1.03 WHIP, and a 19:6 K:BB ratio in 22 1/3 IP. Carrasco should continue to be active on fantasy rosters through the remainder of the season. His next scheduled start will be against the Phillies at home on Saturday.

Wed Sep 8 202109:12Carlos Carrasco Picks Up First Win On Tuesday
New York Mets starting pitcher Carlos Carrasco went five innings, allowing four runs (one earned) on seven hits and one walk in the Mets 9-4 win over the Marlins on Tuesday. Carrasco, who did not have his best stuff or a solid defense behind him, struck out four and gutted out those five innings to pick up his first win of the season raising his record to 1-2. Carrasco missed the majority of the season with a severe hamstring strain which kept him sidelined until July 30. He has had a rocky shortened season, exemplified by a 5.88 ERA and 1.28 WHIP over 33 2/3 innings pitched, though he has pitched better of late. Over his last three starts, Carrasco has now posted a 3.12 ERA, an 0.92 WHIP, and a 14:2 K:BB ratio in 17 1/3 IP. Carrasco appears back on track after a rough start and should continue to be deployed by fantasy managers in all formats. His next scheduled start will be a more difficult task when he faces the Yankees at home on Sunday.

Fri Aug 27 202109:43Carlos Carrasco Impressive In No-Decision Thursday
New York Mets starting pitcher Carlos Carrasco had the best start of his truncated 2021 season on Thursday against the San Francisco Giants. Carrasco went seven innings, allowing just two earned runs on three hits while striking out five batters in the Mets 3-2 loss to the Giants. Carrasco, who did not factor in the decision, was dealing on Thursday. He only made one mistake which Kris Bryant jumped on for a two-run home run in the first inning. On the season, Carrasco has a 6.94 ERA and a 1.29 WHIP with 23 strikeouts over 23 1/3 innings pitched. Though these stats are not impressive, fantasy managers should take away the fact that Carrasco appears to be getting back on track after his season-long absence due to a hamstring strain. Fantasy managers in redraft formats should continue to hold Carrasco. He could very well be a difference-maker in leagues down the stretch in September.

Sat Aug 21 202111:07Carlos Carrasco Goes Five Innings Against Dodgers
New York Mets starting pitcher Carlos Carrasco went five innings in the Mets 3-2 loss to the Dodgers on Friday. Carrasco allowed three earned runs on five hits and one walk while striking out six. Although Carrasco took the loss, his performance was a step in the right direction considering he had not made it past the second inning in his two prior starts. For the season, Carrasco has posted an ugly 8.82 ERA and 1.65 WHIP (though he has 18 strikeouts) over a limited 16 1/3 innings pitched. Fantasy managers in redraft formats with room to continue to hold Carrasco should do so on the off chance he can turn things around for a stretch run in September. At this point, Carrasco really only holds value in dynasty formats. Hopefully, he can get back to form in 2022, provided he suffers no setbacks to his hamstring which kept him out for almost four months.

Mon Aug 16 202109:52Carlos Carrasco Roughed Up Again
New York Mets starting pitcher Carlos Carrasco allowed six earned runs on six hits, including three home runs, in just two innings of work on Sunday against the Dodgers. Carrasco also walked one and struck out three in the Mets 14-4 loss. Carrasco has had a rough start to his season which was delayed until July 30 due to a significant hamstring strain suffered in spring training. In just 11 1/3 innings pitched on the season over four starts, Carrasco has yielded 13 earned runs (10.32 ERA) and owns a 1.85 WHIP, though he has 12 strikeouts. Fantasy managers who patiently waited for Carrasco's return to the mound in 2021 have not been rewarded. It should be noted that Carrasco largely returned to form in 2020 following a battle with Leukemia in 2019. In 2020 with Cleveland, Carrasco posted a 2.91 ERA, a 1.21 WHIP, and struck out 82 batters in 62 IP over 12 starts, stats that were supported by his underlying metrics. As such, this may just be a situation where the Mets rushed Carrasco back to the mound too quickly due to their depleted starting pitching corps. Fantasy managers with room to continue to hold Carrasco should do so in the event he can turn things around for a stretch run in September. Those in dynasty formats should stay the course with Carrasco despite his struggles over this very small 2021 sample size.

Wed Aug 11 202110:05Carlos Carrasco Allows Three Runs In One-Plus Inning Of Work
New York Mets starting pitcher Carlos Carrasco allowed three runs, courtesy of a three-run home run by Juan Soto, in one-plus inning of work on Tuesday against the Nationals in a game suspended due to inclement weather. The currently suspended game, in which the Mets are trailing the Nationals 3-1 in the second inning, will be completed on Wednesday. Carrasco yielded three earned runs on four hits and one walk in his one-plus inning of work. Unfortunately for fantasy managers who have been patiently holding onto Carrasco this season, they not only (essentially) lose a start from him this week but also get saddled with a rough inning of work. In his limited work in 2021, Carrasco owns a 5.79 ERA, a 1.50 WHIP, and nine strikeouts in 9 1/3 innings pitched, though most of the damage came from his short outing on Tuesday. Fantasy managers should continue to keep Carrasco active in all formats. He should be back on the mound for the Mets on Sunday when they take on the Dodgers at home to wrap up their current homestand.

Thu Aug 5 202101:10Carlos Carrasco Gets 13 Outs Wednesday
New York Mets starting pitcher Carlos Carrasco offered a glimpse of his potential Wednesday, going 4 1/3 innings and giving up two runs on five hits and no walks. He struck out five batters. Carrasco didn't allow a hit until the third inning, and was cruising until appearing to hit a wall in the fifth. Though he ran out of steam in this one, it's only his second start back from a torn hamstring, and in a couple weeks he should be back up to speed. Fantasy managers who have held onto Carrasco despite his months-long recovery have to be very pleased with the early returns.

Sat Jul 31 202102:55Joey Votto homers for 7th straight game, 1 shy of MLB record
NEW YORK (AP) — Joey Votto homered for the seventh straight game, one shy of a major league record, and the Cincinnati Reds beat the New York Mets 6-2 on Friday night. Jonathan India went deep twice for the Reds, including a leadoff shot that came on Carlos Carrasco’s first pitch with the Mets. Acquired from Cleveland in January, the veteran right-hander finally made his New York debut after recovering from a hamstring injury. It was an up-and-down day for the Mets, who made a big deal to get Javier Báez from the Chicago Cubs before baseball’s trade deadline — and then revealed injured ace Jacob deGrom will be shut down for two more weeks because of inflammation in his pitching elbow, making it unlikely he’ll rejoin the NL East leaders before September. Báez was acquired from the Cubs along with right-hander Trevor Williams for outfield prospect Pete Crow-Armstrong, the Mets’ first-round pick in the 2020 amateur draft. Báez is expected to join the Mets on Saturday and will play shortstop... [More]

Sat Jul 31 202100:51Carlos Carrasco Sharp In Season Debut
New York Mets starting pitcher Carlos Carrasco was strong in his first outing of the season Friday, allowing just one run on three hits and a walk in four innings against the Cincinnati Reds. The lone run came on his first pitch of the game as he was blitzed by Jonathan India for a home run. Carrasco threw 58 pitches, slightly more than planned, and figures to throw 70 or so in his next outing. He should be fully built up by mid-August, making him an excellent fantasy reinforcement for managers who have stashed him.

Mon Jul 26 202102:33LEADING OFF: Padres getting All-Star 2B Frazier from Pirates
A look at what's happening around the majors today: ___ FRAZIER TO FRIARS An already impressive Padres infield is about to get even better with the addition of All-Star second baseman Adam Frazier. Pittsburgh has agreed to trade Frazier San Diego for three minor leaguers, a person with knowledge of the deal told The Associated Press on Sunday. The person spoke on condition of anonymity because the deal had not been announced. The trade is pending physicals. Pittsburgh is sending approximately $1.4 million to the Padres in the deal. Frazier was the National League starter in the All-Star Game this month. He leads the majors with 125 hits and is batting .324. Sun Jul 25 202119:03LEADING OFF: Ohtani hits MLB-high 35th HR, now faces Rockies
A look at what's happening around the majors on Monday: ___ A SHO NO-NO? Shohei Ohtani has done it all this season, from leading the majors in home runs to throwing 100 mph heat while starting the All-Star Game. So after there were no-hit near misses at Fenway Park, Target Field and Minute Maid Park over the weekend, will the Angels two-way sensation be the next pitcher to give it a go? Ohtani (4-1, 3.21 ERA) will be starting with an extra day of rest when Los Angeles hosts Colorado. Fellow All-Star Germán Márquez (8-7, 3.50) is set to pitch for the Rockies. Ohtani hit his 35th home run Sunday in a win at Minnesota. He’s coming off a sharp start in which he pitched six shutout innings of three-hit ball, striking out eight at Oakland. There have been seven no-hitters in the majors this year, one short of the MLB record set in 1884, the first season overhand pitching was permitted. Sat Jul 24 202117:53Mets newcomer Hill expected to start Sunday vs Toronto
NEW YORK (AP) — Mets newcomer Rich Hill is expected to make his debut for the NL East leaders on Sunday when New York plays Toronto at Citi Field. Mets manager Luis Rojas said Hill would arrive at the ballpark before Saturday night's game against the Blue Jays and throw on the side. The Mets acquired the 41-year-old left-hander in a trade with the Tampa Bay Rays on Friday for veteran pitcher Tommy Hunter and minor league catcher Matthew Dyer. Hill went 6-4 with a 3.87 ERA in 19 starts for the Rays this season. He faced Toronto on July 11 and gave up three runs on four hits and three walks in five innings. Hill will be a much-needed addition to a starting rotation that has been depleted by injuries, most notably ace Jacob deGrom being on the 10-day injured list with tightness in his right forearm. Left-handed David Peterson had been expected to return sometime in August after being sidelined with an oblique strain, but the Mets announced Saturday they were moving him to he 60-day IL after...
