BALTIMORE (AP) — The Orioles have placed designated hitter Mark Trumbo and pitcher Gabriel Ynoa on the 10-day disabled list.Both moves were made Thursday and are retroactive to March 26. SARASOTA, Fla. (AP) — The Baltimore Orioles began spring training on Wednesday with 35 pitchers and much uncertainty. Since last season ended, Baltimore shed four of its starters from the 2017 rotation: right-handers Jeremy Hellickson, Ubaldo Jimenez and Chris Tillman and left-hander Wade Miley.Who'll replace them and slot in behind right-handers Dylan Bundy and Kevin Gausman in 2018 is a mystery.Manager Buck Showalter said that eight pitchers could work in Grapefruit League games as starters. RHP Gabriel Ynoa lasted just three innings Wednesday at Pittsburgh, allowing four runs and five hits -- including two homers -- with three strikeouts and one walk. He had allowed more than three runs in only one of his eight previous appearances (three starts) this season. "A little flat. Not much Christmas to his stuff," Baltimore manager Buck Showalter said. "He was a little flat with everything. Breaking ball was a little sloppy."

MILWAUKEE -- Kris Bryant's two-run homer in the 10th inning led Chicago past Milwaukee 5-3 on Thursday night at Miller Park, boosting the Cubs' lead over the Brewers to 4 1/2 games in the National League Central.Javier Baez tied the game for Chicago with a ninth-inning single, and the Brewers squandered a bases-loaded, one-out opportunity in the bottom of the ninth. RHP Gabriel Ynoa made a strong case for being part of the 2017 rotation on Thursday. Ynoa, who was recalled from Triple-A Norfolk on Sept. 3, gave up one run and five hits with three strikeouts and two walks Thursday against the Rays. "He did his part and he'll get the ball again," manager Buck Showalter said. "See if it continues against another team."

RHP Gabriel Ynoa allowed three runs (two earned) and five hits in 4 1/3 innings Friday. In his second start of the season, Ynoa lasted 64 pitches while doing enough to satisfy manager Buck Showalter. "Slider was there for him," Showalter said. "Some command of fastball was a challenge for him but gave us a chance and it was a good experience for him."

RHP Gabriel Ynoa started 21 games at Triple-A Norfolk this year, but he hadn't started a major league game since Oct. 2 of last year, while pitching for the Mets. On Saturday, Ynoa made his first major league start this season. In 4 2/3 innings he gave up three runs on seven hits, with two strikeouts and no walks. He took the loss in the Orioles? 4-2 loss to Cleveland. "Obviously he's facing a good offensive team, but I thought he presented himself well," Manager Buck Showalter said. "I looked at this as an opportunity, and I wanted to take advantage of it," Ynoa said. "I tried to go five innings and give our team a chance to win."

RHP Gabriel Ynoa was recalled from Triple-A Norfolk on Sunday. Ynoa made four appearances for the Orioles in July, going 1-0 with a 4.26 ERA over 2 1/3 innings. Ynoa had 12 strikeouts and two walks. Ynoa started 21 games for Norfolk this season and finished the season 6-9 with a 5.25 ERA.

Ynoa continued his hot streak Monday, allowing one run on four hits with five strikeouts in seven innings.

Ynoa's ERA is 1.56 over his last six starts. Monday was his fourth consecutive start where he threw at least seven innings while also not allowing a base on balls. If Ynoa can keep up this fine pitching, a promotion to Triple-A Las Vegas could come shortly.

Ynoa tossed a complete-game shutout Thursday, allowing just one hit, with no walks and six strikeouts.

Ynoa, after a slow start to the season, has really turned it on lately. In his last four starts, spanning 30.2 innings, he's allowed just four earned runs with a 13:2 K:BB ratio. Ynoa is not a strikeout pitcher, evidenced in his 42:20 K:BB ratio, relying on command and control to retire hitters.

Ynoa was reassigned to minor league camp Tuesday, ESPN New York's Adam Rubin reports.

Look for Ynoa to begin the season at Double-A, with promotion to Triple-A at some point this summer. He may still profile as more of a reliever than a starter, especially in the Mets' organization.
