RHP Chris Tillman allowed three runs and three hits with two strikeouts and three walks over four-plus innings Sunday against Toronto. Tillman is now winless in his past 18 starts. His last victory came on May 7 when he made his season debut. He had earned at least 10 wins in the past four seasons. "Right now is the time of year we've got to win, especially in September," Tillman said." I feel like you've got all the callups here and there's a chance for that game to get away with one more swing."

RHP Chris Tillman still can't find his command. In his last two spot starts, he's walked 10 with only three strikeouts. He gave up four walks Monday in a no-decision versus the Mariners, all of whom scored, a big reason the right-hander gave up six runs on just three hits. The two homers didn't help either, and Tillman now has not won in 16 starts. "I think when you walk guys, give them a free base, and you can't expect to always find a way to get out of it," Tillman said. "The two after Nelson (Cruz) killed me (and led to a three-run homer). I think those are guys you've got to get after, try to make a pitch to get a double play.

RHP Chris Tillman is in desperate need of a good start Monday against the Mariners. Tillman (1-7, 7.75 ERA) returned to the rotation last Sunday against the Angels after a three-game bullpen stint, but allowed four runs on four hits and six walks with two strikeouts over 5 1/3 innings. One of those bullpen outings came against the Mariners on Aug. 16, giving up two hits in a scoreless inning. Tillman is 7-1 with a 3.30 ERA in 11 career games (10 starts) versus the Mariners. Robinson Cano (15-for-36, .417) has two home runs and eight RBIs against him.

RHP Chris Tillman made his first start since being demoted to the bullpen more than two weeks ago. The right-hander allowed four runs, four hits and tied a career-high with six walks over 5 1/3 innings. Tillman, who opened the year on the DL, managed his only win on May 7. "You cut the walks in half that's a different ball game," said Tillman, who is 1-7. "That's just too many. Too many to try to pitch out of. You can't expect to win a game walking that many. Other than that, I thought it was OK. Made some good offspeed pitches, fastball was a little better. I still think it was a step in the right direction minus the walks. I got to limit those."

RHP Chris Tillman will be the starter Sunday, manager Buck Showalter confirmed after Saturday's game. Tillman has appeared just once since his last start on Aug. 3, pitching 1 1/3 scoreless innings Sunday at Oakland.

RHP Chris Tillman made his first career relief appearance after 194 starts on Sunday in a 9-3 loss at Oakland. Tillman pitched 1 1/3 perfect innings with two strikeouts. Tillman went 1-7 with an 8.10 ERA in 15 starts this season. Last year he was 16-6 with a 3.77 ERA in 30 starts for the Orioles. He made his first appearance since Aug. 3 against Detroit.
Mon Aug 7 201702:09RHP Chris Tillman taking demotion to bullpen in stride
RHP Chris Tillman is taking his demotion to the bullpen in stride. The right-hander, who has anchored the rotation for the past several seasons, is just 1-7 with 8.10 ERA. He is also winless in his past 15 starts, prompting the move by manager Buck Showalter. "It's not gone by any means," Tillman said Sunday. "It's there. I just need to get back to it and I think we're headed in the right direction."

RHP Chris Tillman has lost his spot in the starting rotation and will be available out of the bullpen for Sunday afternoon's series finale against the Detroit Tigers, manager Buck Showalter announced prior to Saturday night's game at Camden Yards. In 15 starts this season, Tillman is 1-7 with an 8.10 ERA . He has not won since his first start of the season on May 7. "We are trying to figure out some way to get him back (pitching well)," Showalter said. "Ubaldo (Jimenez) seemed to find a way to make a (demotion to the bullpen) productive. I know Chris will, too."

RHP Chris Tillman (1-7) struggled early and often again for Baltimore, allowing seven runs (five earned) on six hits in just two-plus innings Thursday against Detroit. He is winless in his past 15 starts and has an 8.10 ERA. "I know the scoreboard won't show it and most people won't see it, but there were a lot of good things that happened tonight," Tillman said. "And if you're going to take anything good away from this, that was a pretty horrible start and we almost came back and won that game."

RHP Chris Tillman, who allowed six earned runs in his last three outings combined, was charged with eight runs in 4 1/3 innings Friday. The eight runs allowed by Tillman were a season high, and one shy of his career high. The nine hits allowed were a season high. Tillman did match his season high with six strikeouts. "For a second there I'd get it, and then I'd kind of get away from it," Tillman said. "A couple bad pitches get away from me, and then I get back on track, and then get away from me again, so just inconsistent all around."

RHP Chris Tillman pitched well in his last appearance, allowing only one run in a no-decision versus Texas, but he'd come off a lay-off (for several reasons), and manager Buck Showalter wanted to see him do this again on a normal schedule. Tillman made it into the sixth, going 5 2/3 innings and leaving with a 4-3 lead, pitching well, even though Houston came back later to win. "I felt pretty good about it," Tillman said. "For the most part, I threw the ball pretty well. I was missing the breaking balls, but for the most part the other pitches were there for me when I needed them."

RHP Chris Tillman made his first start Monday since June 30 after spending time on the paternity list due to the birth of his first child. He had one of his best outings in a disappointing season. Tillman allowed just one run and two hits with three strikeouts and four walks over six innings. He still has not earned a win since May 7. "It's a long time," Tillman said. "I definitely felt rusty. But we were able to work through it. Welly did an outstanding job and we put together some good at-bats later in the game."

RHP Chris Tillman will not travel with the team to Milwaukee because his wife is overdue with their first child. The couple are expected to meet with a doctor on Monday. "They're having a big appointment tomorrow morning," manager Buck Showalter said Sunday. "They may go forward with that tomorrow. We've got to hold the paternity thing as long as we can. We can't start it today." Tillman is scheduled to start Wednesday against the Brewers, but the Orioles have a contingency plan in place in case he cannot pitch. A potential spot starter will likely come from Triple-A Norfolk. Tillman allowed two runs on seven hits with five strikeouts and two walks over five innings in last outing Friday against the Blue Jays. He is 1-5 with a 7.90 ERA on the year.

RHP Chris Tillman might have to miss his next start Wednesday for the birth of his first child. Orioles manager Buck Showalter said the team has a contingency plan in place, but would not reveal any further details. Tillman's wife, Christina, is past her due date and might have labor induced. "She's up most of the night. So is he," Showalter said about the couple. Tillman allowed two runs on seven hits with five strikeouts and two walks over five innings Friday and did not earn a decision. He is 1-5 with a 7.90 ERA on the year.

He allowed two runs on seven hits in five innings plus three batters and threw better. "I like the command, the lack of base on balls (two in his five-plus innings)," Orioles manager Buck Showalter said.
