MINNEAPOLIS (AP) — Minnesota Twins right-hander Ervin Santana will miss the start of the regular season after unexpected surgery on his right middle finger. The Twins announced the 35-year-old right-hander had the procedure Tuesday in New York by Dr. Charles Melone, after Santana experienced discomfort during a bullpen session last week. Santana is expected to need 10 to 12 weeks of rehabilitation before he can pitch in a major league game, which would keep him out of the rotation until at least mid-April.Santana has had trouble with the digit before and had an X-ray and MRI after the 2017 season, when doctors determined there was no injury to the tendon. He was treated with an injection at the time. The injury resurfaced last week, and Melone's recommendation was surgery. The procedure to the joint of the finger is a capsular release/debridement. The Twins said the injury stems from wear and tear, not one acute event.Santana was an All-Star last year, going 16-8 with a 3.28 ERA in 211 1/3... [More]

LaMarre exited Sunday's game against the Brewers with a strained right hamstring.
Despite exiting mid-game, LaMarre still managed to register four at-bats but failed to convert on all attempts at the plate. Fellow outfielder Skip Schumaker will likely take over for LaMarre in the immediate future if the strain amounts to something that needs attention beyond Sunday.

LaMarre was called up from Triple-A Louisville on Thursday to replace the traded Marlon Byrd, Mark Sheldon of MLB.com reports.
LaMarre had previously been on the 40-man roster for half a year in 2014, but was designated for assignment after a poor start that year with a .610 OPS at Louisville. He's improved in 2015, registering a .257/.307/.400 line with eight home runs and 11 stolen bases.

The Reds designated LaMarre for assignment Tuesday.
A knee injury limited LaMarre to just 17 games with Triple-A Louisville this season, during which he compiled a .200/.310/.300 batting line with one homer in 59 plate appearances. LaMarre was a second-round pick out of Michigan in 2010, but the Reds have evidently seen enough to rule him out as a legitimate outfield option for the years ahead. He hit just .255/.343/.362 in parts of three seasons at the Double-A level and doesn't figure to draw much interest while on waivers.

Reds optioned OF Ryan LaMarre to Triple-A Louisville.
LaMarre didn't see much playing time this spring, as he didn't have a real shot to make the big club. He should start in center field at Louisville.
