Wed Dec 16 202020:18Rockies manager Black downplays Arenado, Story trade rumors
DENVER (AP) — Bud Black hears the Nolan Arenado and Trevor Story trade rumors. Bud Black is entertained by the Nolan Arenado and the Trevor Story trade rumors. Just that time of year, the Colorado Rockies manager contended Wednesday in a Zoom call. “My expectation is that they’ll be with us come opening day,” Black said. Black actually thinks that trade rumors, any sort of trade rumors, are a good thing over the offseason because it keeps baseball in the conversation during this time dominated by college football, the NFL and the start of the NBA season. “It’s great for baseball to talk about players and talk about trades and talk about movement, talk about free agency," Black said. "That’s good for the game. It’s great for the game to have that out there and baseball be in the news.” Arenado is scheduled to make $35 million in 2021 as part of a $260 million, eight-year contract he signed with the Rockies in 2019. There's one caveat that could cause potential bidders to balk: The deal includes... [More]
Tue Dec 15 202018:37Rangers sign OF David Dahl to $2.7 million, 1-year contract
ARLINGTON, Texas (AP) — The Texas Rangers have signed free agent outfielder David Dahl to a $2.7 million, one-year contract after Colorado didn't offer him a contract coming off right shoulder surgery. Dahl hit .183 with no homers and nine RBIs while spending about a month of the pandemic-shortened 60-game regular season on the injured list. Dahl, who spent his first nine years in pro ball with the Rockies, also dealt with back soreness last season. Dahl had the first hit at the Rangers’ new retractable-roof stadium in 2020, a third-inning single against Lance Lynn on July 24. He had had surgery Sept. 29. The 26-year-old could earn up to $300,000 in performance bonuses: $100,000 for 500 plate appearances and $200,000 for 550. He was a National League All-Star in 2019, hitting .302 with 15 homers and 61 RBIs. Dahl's career average is .286 in 264 games over parts of four seasons. Dahl has been primarily a left fielder, the position Dahl is most likely to fill for the Rangers, although he's one of 11 major leaguers to play all three outfield spots since 2018. The Rangers also traded reliever Rafael Montero, who was their closer for most of last season, to Seattle for 17-year-old right-handed pitching prospect José Corniell and a player to be named. ___ More AP MLB: https://apnews.com/MLB and https://twitter.com/AP_Sports

NEW YORK (AP) — Kyle Schwarber and Albert Almora Jr. were cut loose by the Chicago Cubs after helping the team win its first World Series title in more than a century, among a record 59 players who became free agents as part of the fallout from the coranavirus pandemic when their teams declined to offer them 2021 contracts by Wednesday night’s deadline. Mon Sep 28 202016:18Arenado, Rockies miss playoffs for 2nd straight season
DENVER (AP) — Hampered by a sore left shoulder, Nolan Arenado couldn’t carry the Colorado Rockies to the postseason. Don't be surprised to hear his name surface in offseason trade rumors. The All-Star third baseman never found his groove in the shortened season before going on the injured list for the final week. And while his team started 11-3, the Rockies couldn't sustain the momentum. Colorado went 15-31 the rest of the way, which was the lowest winning percentage in the majors over that span. This on the heels of a 71-90 mark a year ago, which led Arenado to call out the front office over the winter about needing more talent. By his standards, it was a quiet season for Arenado. He hit .253 with eight homers. The 29-year-old Arenado has an opt-out clause after next season on his eight-year, $260 million deal. General manager Jeff Bridich may listen to offers to see what the market value is on a player who’s captured seven straight Gold Gloves. “I’d assume there’s going to be some changes,”... [More]
