Mon Mar 11 201322:18Steve Hutchinson hanging them up after 12 yrs
Titans LG Steve Hutchinson will announce his retirement from the NFL on Tuesday.
Hutchinson, 35, was the premier guard in the NFL in the mid-to-late-2000s, but his play tailed off last season as he battled a knee injury. Hutchinson was set to count $6.75 million against the cap in 2013, and he was likely going to be released anyway as the Titans look to shore up their interior line. He was a seven-time Pro Bowler and seven-time All-Pro. Hutchinson might best be known for the "poison pill" contract he signed with the Vikings in 2006. His retirement paves the way for the Titans to go hard after Andy Levitre in free agency.

Wed Feb 6 201316:48Hasselbeck: Steve Hutchinson not retiring
Teammate Matt Hasselbeck says Titans LG Steve Hutchinson isn't considering retirement.
Coach Mike Munchak hinted Hutchinson was considering retirement at his season-ending presser, but that's apparently not the case. "(Hutchinson) has been working out really hard," Hasselbeck said. "He looks really good to me." Although it appears Hutchinson is planning to play in 2013, the Nashville Tennessean believes he could still end up a cap casualty. Hutchinson is due $5 million between salary and bonuses.

Mon Feb 4 201319:03Hutchinson a candidate to be released
Titans LG Steve Hutchinson "could be" a cap casualty.
Hutchinson is due a $4.5 million base salary and a $500,000 roster bonus in the second year of a three-year deal. After landing on injured reserve with a right knee injury in early December, Hutchinson is said to be also considering retirement. The Titans are expected to overhaul their interior line for 2013.

Wed Dec 5 201217:45Titans send LG Steve Hutchinson to I.R.
Titans placed LG Steve Hutchinson on injured reserve with a right knee injury, ending his season.
He's undergoing surgery on Thursday. Hutchinson, who had yet to miss a start this season, is the fourth Titans' starting offensive lineman to be sent to injured reserve. Only LT Michael Roos is still standing. However, this is the third straight December Hutchinson has landed on I.R. One month removed from his 35th birthday, Hutchinson is signed through 2014. Hutchinson graded out as just the league's 52nd best guard in Pro Football Focus' rankings, but it's still bad news for the Titans' run game since it further decimates their line depth.

Wed Dec 5 201216:32Titans Hutchinson to have surgery on knee
Titans LG Steven Hutchinson will have surgery tomorrow on his right knee and will likely be out for the season.
Another blow to this Titans offensive line that has already lost Leroy Harris, Eugene Amano, and David Stewart for the season. Fernando Velasco is expected to slide over from center to left guard in place of Hutchinson. This patchwork offensive line does not bode well for Chris Johnson's prospects for the fantasy playoffs.

Tue Dec 4 201219:12Titans LG Hutchinson may need knee scope
Coach Mike Munchak suggested LG Steve Hutchinson may need arthroscopic surgery after sustaining a knee injury in Week 13.
Hutchinson is considered unlikely to play versus the Colts this week. With RT David Stewart out of the lineup, Chris Johnson could be running behind a patchwork offensive line.

Thu Jun 21 201213:19Hutchinson already 'glue' to Titans O-Line
Titans OC Chris Palmer is already calling free agent acquisition LG Steve Hutchinson "the glue" of the offensive line.
"He settles everyone down up front," said Palmer. "I've been very, very pleased with the run game in OTAs and minicamp, we've done a good job there. It looks like we're in sync." Hutchinson, a seven-time Pro Bowler, was the only significant addition to an interior that arguably needed upgrades at all three spots.

Thu Mar 15 201216:08Report: Titans land Pro Bowl OG Hutchinson
Titans reportedly signed OG Steve Hutchinson to a three-year contract.
The Titans had made it clear since the offseason began that upgrading the interior of the offensive line was a priority. There may be more to the story, though. ESPN's John Clayton suggests Hutchinson may have picked Tennessee over a return to Seattle because of the Peyton Manning connection. The two veterans share the same agent in Tom Condon. Even at age 34, Hutchinson is a major upgrade on Jake Scott and Leroy Harris at guard.

Wed Mar 14 201216:15Steve Hutchinson visiting Seattle
Free agent OG Steve Hutchinson will visit the Seahawks on Wednesday.
It was nearly six years ago to the day that the Vikings infamously lured Hutchinson away from the Seahawks via a front-loaded "poison-pill" deal, but apparently time heals all wounds. Hutchinson has also visited with the Titans.

Tue Mar 13 201207:41Texans to host OG Steve Hutchinson
Free agent OG Steve Hutchinson will reportedly visit with the Texans.
The Texans' interest in Hutchinson doesn't bode well for the chances of RG Mike Brisiel re-signing to stay in Houston. At 34 years old with a 30-pound advantage on Brisiel, Hutchinson seems an odd fit for the Texans' zone-blocking scheme.

Sun Mar 11 201214:07Steve Hutchinson may interest Titans
Terry McCormick of Titan Insider suggests free agent OG Steve Hutchinson as a player that could "potentially" interest the Titans.
The Titans have made it no secret that they want to improve their interior run blocking this year. Though he's now 34, Hutchinson remains solid in pass protection in the late-career vein of Alan Faneca. He's no longer a top-flight run blocker, though. In Nashville, Hutchinson could replace outgoing RG Jake Scott.

Sat Mar 10 201215:08Vikings release guards Hutchinson/Herrera
Vikings released OGs Steve Hutchinson and Anthony Herrera.
Hutchinson and Herrera have been the Vikings' starting guards since 2007, with Hutchinson starting 89 of a possible 96 games since being signed away from the Seahawks in 2006. Herrera signed as an undrafted free agent in 2004. Hutchinson was due $7 million going into his age-35 season, while Herrera was set to make $2.75 million between salary and bonuses. Hutchinson graded out as one of the league's best guards in 2011 by Pro Football Focus, and could be welcomed back at a lower salary depending on how his market unfolds.

Thu Mar 8 201200:14Hutchinson won't return to Vikes at $7M
ESPN 1500 Twin Cities confirms LG Steve Hutchinson will not be back with the Vikings at his scheduled $7 million salary.
There is believed to be a "significant gap" in a possible restructure. If Hutchinson is released, beat writer Tom Pelissero knows of at least one time that will attempt to sign him. The Vikes brass will meet Saturday to discuss the futures of Hutchinson, RG Anthony Herrera, and CB Cedric Griffin.

Vikings LG Steve Hutchinson acknowledged Monday that his days with Minnesota may be numbered.
Hutchinson is 34 years old and has a base salary of $6.95 million. "I know what the cap situation is and all that, but it's out of my control," he said. "Any player has to worry about that in the NFL." Hutchinson still plans to continue his playing career after finishing the 2011 season on I.R. with a concussion.

Wed Feb 1 201210:06Hutchinson will have to take a pay cut
Vikings LG Steve Hutchinson is unlikely to return to the Vikings unless he accepts a "deep pay cut."
Hutchinson has told teammates that he intends to retire after his contract runs out in 2013. Due $7 million in salary and bonuses, Hutchinson will have to rip up that final year if he wants to continue in Minnesota. On a positive note, he graded out as Pro Football Focus' fourth-ranked left guard at age 34.

Vikings LG Steve Hutchinson plans to continue his playing career.
"He's doing fine," coach Leslie Frazier said of Hutchinson, who ended the 2011 season on injured reserve with a concussion. The 34-year-old is due a $6.95 million base salary in 2012.

Vikings coach Leslie Frazier hinted Wednesday that LG Steve Hutchinson will contemplate retirement this offseason.
Hutchinson's 2011 season was ended by a concussion, from which he did not recover quickly. "I'm hoping that things will get better soon for him with the concussions for sure," said Frazier. "That's something that I'm sure he and his family will discuss, what his future is and how much longer he wants to play pro football." Hutchinson, 34, has been to seven Pro Bowls.
