Mon Jun 4 201218:05Bucs add DE depth with Mitchell
Bucs signed DE Jayme Mitchell to a one-year contract.
Mitchell has always appeared to have the physical tools at 6'6/285, but he's consistently disappointing on the field. During 43 games with the Vikings and Browns, he's posted just 6.5 sacks. Mitchell will be in a fight to stick with the Bucs as a rotational end.

Wed Jan 4 201209:49Browns looking for defensive right end
Coach Pat Shurmur indicated the Browns will search for a defensive right end upgrade in 2012.
"We had to focus on getting some guys that can play defensive line," said Shurmur. "With (Ahtyba) Rubin, (Phil) Taylor and (Jabaal) Sheard, we think we solidified those three spots pretty well." Jayme Mitchell and Emmanuel Sanders, who manned right end in 2011, are better utilized as rotational ends.

Mon Sep 19 201114:21Browns to change defensive ends' positions
The Browns will keep Jayme Mitchell at right defensive end with rookie Jabaal Sheard at left defensive end going forward.
Mitchell is more of a long-bodied run-defender type at 6-foot-6, 285, but the Browns want to keep Sheard at his natural position. Through two games, Mitchell has 7 tackles (6 solo) without a big play. Sheard has 8 tackles (7 solo), and is coming off a breakout game against the Colts with a sack and forced fumble. He's the far more explosive rusher and better IDP target.

Mitchell will be given very opportunity to win the strong-side defensive end job with the Browns. Marcus Benard will be a nickel rusher behind Mitchell and RE Jabaal Sheard.

Free agent DE Jayme Mitchell's agent spoke to the Browns before the lockout and believes there is "mutual interest" on both sides.
New DL coach Dwaine Board reportedly told Mitchell's agent that his client would be given a chance to start if he re-signed. "I want to get somewhere I can start," confirmed Mitchell. The Browns have been publicly high on the 27-year-old former undrafted free agent. He should return on a cheap, short-term deal.

Thu Jul 7 201109:42Browns GM: Mitchell was our best pass rusher
Browns GM Tom Heckert believes free agent DE Jayme Mitchell was the team's best pass rusher last season.
It's kind of a slap in the face to Marcus Benard and Matt Roth. Mitchell, acquired from the Vikings last October, appeared in two games and played 11 snaps on defense. Heckert's comments indicate that he believes Mitchell has starter's ability. The Browns will likely re-sign him to compete at left end.

Thu Oct 7 201009:01Mitchell may be moved to linebacker
Browns coach Eric Mangini hinted that newly acquired Jayme Mitchell may play outside linebacker in Cleveland.
Mitchell, a defensive end with the Vikings, hasn't played linebacker since high school and has never played in a 3-4. But he's a natural pass rusher, so it shouldn't take him too long to adjust.

Tue Oct 5 201016:19Browns deal for DE Jayme Mitchell
Browns acquired DE Jayme Mitchell from the Vikings in exchange for a 2012 late-round pick.
Mitchell had a strong preseason in addition to a Week 1 sack on Drew Brees, but he was a healthy scratch in Week 3. He'll add depth as situational pass-rusher to a Browns defensive line that has been beaten up with injuries of late.
