Tue Sep 26 202321:18Reese McGuire Suffers Left Thumb Contusion
Boston Red Sox catcher Reese McGuire (thumb) exited Tuesday's matchup with the Tampa Bay Rays on Tuesday with an apparent left thumb contusion, Ian Browne of MLB.com reports. The 28-year-old is hitting .271 at the dish but with just one homer, 14 runs, 16 RBI, and a single stolen base over 70 games. It's unclear how serious the issue is right now, though whatever happens, Connor Wong will continue to get the majority of reps behind the plate, and McGuire remains irrelevant in all formats.

Boston Red Sox backstop Reese McGuire (oblique) has completed his rehab assignment and is ready to rejoin the big league club either Tuesday or Wednesday, according to MLB.com. The 28-year-old has been out of action since landing on the injured list with a right oblique strain on June 22. Before going down, McGuire slashed .267/.313/.352 with no homers, 11 runs, and 11 RBI across 40 games. He should once again backup fellow catcher Connor Wong, displacing current backup Jorge Alfaro.

The target date for Boston Red Sox catcher Reese McGuire (oblique) to begin a minor-league rehab assignment is around next Tuesday, July 25. McGuire has been slowly recovering from a right-oblique strain that he suffered on June 21 against the Minnesota Twins, but he was able to resume baseball activities on July 6. McGuire will return to a .267/.313/.352 slash line with no home runs, nine doubles, 11 RBI and 11 runs scored in 116 trips to the plate over 40 games in his first full season in Beantown.

Mon Jul 10 202312:07Reese McGuire Not Ready To Return
Boston Red Sox catcher Reese McGuire (oblique) resumed baseball activities on July 6 after initially being slow to recover from a right-oblique strain that he suffered taking a swing on June 21 against the Minnesota Twins. Oblique injuries usually take a minimum of two to three weeks to heal, but McGuire's is taking longer. His absence led the Red Sox to sign Jorge Alfaro to a major-league deal on July 6. Whenever the 28-year-old backstop is finally ready to return, he'll rejoin Boston's roster as a backup catcher. He has minimal fantasy appeal in that role and was hitting .267 (28-for-105) with no home runs, nine doubles, 11 RBI and 11 runs scored in 116 plate appearances over 40 games played.

The Boston Red Sox placed catcher Reese McGuire (oblique) on the 10-day injured list on Thursday with a right-oblique strain that he suffered on Wednesday night against the Minnesota Twins. Boston Red Sox catcher Reese McGuire will be out of the starting lineup again on Friday against the Texas Rangers. McGuire will be out of the starting lineup for the third straight game on Friday despite going 20-for-54 (.370) with no homers, five RBI and five runs scored in 18 games since joining the team on Aug. 3. He's battling for playing time with both Kevin Plawecki and Connor Wong. Wong is doing the catching on Friday and will hit ninth against Rangers left-hander Dallas Keuchel. The 26-year-old will be playing in just his sixth game for the Red Sox and 12th game in his two major league seasons. Wong has two hits in his eight at-bats in 2022 and is still searching for his first big-league homer.

Sun Apr 3 202217:59White Sox Trade Zack Collins For Reese McGuire
The Chicago White Sox and Toronto Blue Jays have agreed to a catcher swap. Zack Collins is headed to Toronto while Reese McGuire is on his way to Chicago. While it may seem like a perplexing trade on the surface, the reasoning behind it for both teams appears sound. In McGuire, the White Sox will have a more proven backup behind starter Yasmani Grandal. As for the Blue Jays, the club is loaded at catcher and the franchise wanted to reduce that depth. Collins has a minor league option left on his contract so he'll be headed to Triple-A while the team goes with just Danny Jansen and Alejandro Kirk as catching options to open the year.
