Fri Mar 100:36Alex Bregman Working To Develop More Power
Houston Astros third baseman Alex Bregman has been working to add more power to his game this offseason, according to Matt Kawahara of the Houston Chronicle. Earlier this offseason, Bregman was approached by hitting coach Troy Snitker who had an "intriguing proposition [...] aimed at helping the third baseman produce more power in the upcoming year." Bregman has since adopted a new hitting program in which he uses differently weighted bats, which is intended to improve bat speed, produce higher exit velocities, and combat faster pitching. The third baseman slashed just .262/.363/.441 last year but still contributed 25 homers. Adding additional power to his game could bring Bregman back to an All-Star level.

Wed Feb 712:54Astros To Make Extension Offer To Alex Bregman
Houston Astros owner Jim Crane said this week that the team will "definitely" make a contract-extension offer to All-Star third baseman Alex Bregman before he reaches free agency following the 2024 season. It comes after the Astros locked up second baseman Jose Altuve with a five-year, $125 million extension on Tuesday. The 29-year-old Bregman is younger than Altuve and could decide he wants to test the free-agent market, especially if he has a strong campaign in 2024. He hit .262/.363/.441 with 25 home runs, 28 doubles, four triples, 98 RBI, three stolen bases and 103 runs scored in 161 games played in his eighth big-league season last year. The two-time All-Star resides in one of the best lineups in baseball and should still be considered a top-10 fantasy third baseman.

Mon Nov 27 202314:22Alex Bregman Could Be Moved This Offseason
Houston Astros third baseman Alex Bregman could be traded away this offseason, according to former MLB general manager Jim Duquette. The two-time All-Star is in the final season of his current five-year contract that carries an average annual value of $20 million, but it is believed the club will not be able to re-sign him given his Scott Boras representation and the fact the club could not retain Carlos Correa or George Springer when they hit the open market in recent offseasons. The 29-year-old is coming off another quality season that saw him hit .262 with 25 home runs, 103 runs, 98 RBI, and an .804 OPS across 161 appearances. The 2019 AL MVP runner-up is an excellent option at the hot corner in fantasy drafts next spring.

Sun Sep 3 202323:09Alex Bregman Collects Two Singles In Astros Loss
During Sunday night's game against the Yankees, third baseman Alex Bregman went 2-for-3 at the plate and scored the Astros' only run. Bregman got on base early with a base hit against righty Michael King in the first frame. He then crossed the plate for the game's first run, thanks to a sacrifice fly from left-handed batter Kyle Tucker. Both of Bregman's hits during the contest were singles. So far this season, the 29-year-old infielder is batting .267/.365/.446. He has also contributed 22 home runs, 90 RBI, and three swiped bags.

Sun Aug 27 202310:54Alex Bregman Stuffs Stat Sheet In Rout
Houston Astros third baseman Alex Bregman went 3-for-4 with a home run, two doubles, four RBI, three runs scored, and two walks in Saturday's lopsided 9-2 win over the Detroit Tigers. The 29-year-old filled up the box score in this one, first doubling in Jose Altuve during the opening inning. Bregman kept his foot on the gas for a fifth-inning two-run jack, plus another RBI double amidst the sixth frame. It was notably his fourth four-RBI effort of the year. The two-time All-Star is quietly putting together a strong campaign, but Bregman has been on fire especially over his last 10 games. He's hitting .375 (15-for-40) with nine extra-base knocks, 11 RBI, and 12 runs scored since Aug. 16.

Bregman hit his three-run shot in the first inning off Rangers starting hurler Andrew Heaney. Unfortunately, the Astros would only add two more runs in a lopsided 13-5 loss. The 29-year-old Bregman now has 17 dingers this season while slashing 256/.347/.430 with 66 RBI in 452 trips to the plate. Last season he blasted 21 homers in 548 at-bats.

Mon Jul 17 202309:25Alex Bregman Blasts Go-Ahead Homer
Houston Astros third baseman Alex Bregman came up clutch for the team during Sunday's win over the Los Angeles Angels. The Astros entered the eighth inning trailing 7-3 versus All-Star closer Carlos Estevez. They were able to rally and make it 7-5 before Jaime Barria came in for the ninth inning. Houston scored a run off him before Bregman blasted a go-ahead two-run home run to give the Astros the lead. He finished 4-for-5 on the night, which is nice to see given his disappointing season thus far. He's slashing 246/.341/.398 with 13 long balls and 58 RBI.

Fri Jun 30 202301:20Alex Bregman Cranks Grand Slam In Rout
Houston Astros third baseman Alex Bregman closed 3-for-5 with a grand slam and two additional runs scored in Thursday's 14-0 thrashing of the St. Louis Cardinals. The 29-year-old's ninth-inning blast simply added insult to injury with Houston already up 10-0 in the contest. Bregman has performed quite productively over his last 45 at-bats, hitting .333 with three homers, 14 RBI, and two stolen bases over this 11-game span. Overall, the two-time All-Star is slashing a respectable .251/.346/.412 with 12 bombs, 53 RBI, and three pilfers across 358 plate appearances. Bregman next sees a four-game set with the Texas Rangers, who he is batting just .205 against with one long ball and six RBI in 73 ABs since 2022.

Wed May 31 202310:25Alex Bregman Pops Seventh Homer In Win
Houston Astros third baseman Alex Bregman went 2-for-4 with a home run and two RBI in the Astros' 5-1 victory over the Minnesota Twins on Tuesday night. Bregman bounced back in May with a .262 average and four home runs after hitting just .219 with three home runs in April. He's certainly perked up a bit at the plate lately with four multi-hit efforts in his last eight contests. Bregman has walked 28 times this season compared to just 25 strikeouts. It's that plate discipline that carries his fantasy profile these days, as he's more of a .265 hitter with 25 home runs than the .290 hitter with at least 30 home runs that we saw when he was at his peak.

Tue May 16 202300:47Alex Bregman Hits Go-Ahead Homer Monday
Houston Astros third baseman Alex Bregman had a big game at the plate in Monday's 6-4 win over the Cubs. Bregman went 2-for-4 with a single and a go-ahead two-run home run in the seventh inning. It was a bright spot among an otherwise dreary start to the season offensively, as the 29-year-old is slashing just .212/.324/.346 with five HR and 18 RBI. The Astros as a whole have underperformed offensively, so hopefully they and Bregman can start to get things going for fantasy managers.

Wed Apr 12 202319:35Alex Bregman Hits Three-Run HR Wednesday
Houston Astros third baseman Alex Bregman went 1-for-3 with two walks and a three-run homer in a 7-0 win over the Pittsburgh Pirates on Wednesday. Bregman's three-run homer traveled 395 feet and had an exit velocity of 105.7 MPH. The veteran infielder has been scuffling at the plate to begin the year, hitting just .196 with two homers, 10 runs, and six RBI over 51 at-bats. Hopefully his homer on Wednesday will get his bat going a bit as the weather heats up.

Fri Mar 3 202311:01Alex Bregman Making Spring Debut Friday
Houston Astros third baseman Alex Bregman (finger) is making his Grapefruit League debut on Friday against the Atlanta Braves, starting at third base and batting cleanup. Bregman was held back a bit this spring after fracturing his left index finger in the World Series last year. Barring any setbacks with his finger in spring games, the 28-year-old should be ready to go for Opening Day at the end of March. Fantasy managers shouldn't expect Bregman to contribute in the steals category anymore, but we still like everything else about his bat in one of the best lineups in baseball. Bregman isn't elite, but he's a solid fallback option at the position if you miss out on top names like Jose Ramirez and Manny Machado. He's ranked as the No. 7 fantasy third baseman by RotoBaller.

Sat Jan 21 202312:52Alex Bregman Has Been Swinging A Bat
Houston Astros third baseman Alex Bregman (finger), who broke his left index finger in Game 6 of the World Series, said he's been swinging a bat since Jan. 1 and that it has healed well. It's good news for Bregman and anyone that plans on drafting him this spring, although his spring training performance will be worth watching to see if the finger is negatively affecting him in any way. The 28-year-old slugger reached the 20-homer mark for the third time in his career in 2022, finishing with a .259/.366/.454 slash line, .820 OPS, 23 home runs, 93 RBI, 93 runs scored and a stolen base in 656 plate appearances and 155 games played. Despite the injury, Bregman should be considered a top-10 fantasy third baseman heading into the 2023 season.

Sun Nov 6 202221:43Alex Bregman Breaks His Finger On Saturday
X-rays confirmed that Houston Astros third baseman Alex Bregman (finger) suffered a broken left index finger while sliding into second base in the eighth inning of Game 6 of the World Series against the Philadelphia Phillies on Saturday. Bregman won't need surgery, but he'll face an eight-week recovery after winning the World Series. Fantasy managers shouldn't need to worry heading into the 2023 season, as Bregman will be ready for spring training. The 28-year-old stayed in for the rest of the series-clinching win on Saturday night and went 1-for-3 with a walk, run scored and strikeout in the 4-1 win. Bregman went 15-for-51 (.294) with five doubles, three home runs, 11 RBI, seven runs scored, six walks and six strikeouts in 13 postseason games en route to another championship ring.

Sun Oct 30 202210:47Alex Bregman Goes Deep In Saturday's Win
Houston Astros third baseman Alex Bregman played a key role in Saturday's World Series Game 2 against the Philadelphia Phillies, going 1-for-4, but that lone hit was a two-run shot off of Zack Wheeler that helped his club win 5-2. Over nine games this postseason, the 28-year-old is batting .316 with three home runs and nine RBI. Bregman was solid in the regular season as well, slashing .259/.366/.454 while smashing 23 homers, driving in 93 and scoring 93 runs. He'll continue providing offensive firepower in the middle of a great Astros lineup for the rest of the series.

Tue Sep 20 202218:18Alex Bregman To Be Rested Wednesday

Bregman entered the game on Tuesday hitting .283 (15-for-53) with a home run, 11 RBI and eight runs scored in 16 games in the month of September. On the season, he's slashing .269/.376/.470 with an .847 OPS, 21 home runs, 88 RBI, 88 runs scored and a stolen base in 603 plate appearances over 142 games played. Fantasy managers will need to remove the two-time All-Star from their starting lineups for Wednesday's action.

Sun Sep 4 202214:09Alex Bregman Sitting Out On Sunday
Houston Astros third baseman Alex Bregman is not in the lineup on Sunday vs. the Los Angeles Angels. This appears to just be a routine day off for the veteran third baseman, who's slashing .265/.369/.471 with 20 home runs and 78 RBI over 456 at-bats on the year. David Hensley is batting seventh and taking over at third base in Bregman's place on Sunday in Anaheim.

Mon Aug 1 202219:18Alex Bregman Placed On Paternity List
The Houston Astros placed third baseman Alex Bregman on the paternity list on Monday and recalled infielder Taylor Jones from Triple-A in a corresponding move. Bregman will be away from the team for up to three days to be with his wife, so fantasy managers need to act accordingly to begin the week. The 28-year-old finished the month of July slashing .242/.321/.455 with four home runs, 17 RBI and 14 runs scored in 26 games, and he's now hitting .242 on the year with 13 home runs, 55 RBI and 53 runs scored in 420 plate appearances. Aledmys Diaz is starting at third base and hitting cleanup on Monday against Boston Red Sox right-hander Nathan Eovaldi. Diaz finished the month of July on a tear, going 12-for-36 (.333) with three home runs and four RBI in 10 games.

Thu Jul 21 202222:21Alex Bregman Collects Four Hits During Thursday's Doubleheader
Houston Astros third baseman Alex Bregman had two multi-hit games on Thursday, finishing 2-for-4 in both games of the doubleheader against the New York Yankees. He went deep once, scored twice, and collected three RBI. The day brought Bregman's line to .245/.359/.420, and he has 12 HRs, 48 runs, and 49 RBI over 90 games. Although it hasn't happened, fantasy managers were hoping for a bounce back in the power department after he hit just 12 HRs in 91 games during 2021. Also, Bregman's batting average has nosedived from .270 a season ago. The 28-year-old's playable in every league because of his volume, but he isn't the star he once was.
