(AP) — Tampa Bay Rays two-way prospect Brendan McKay will get two outings on a big league mound to show what he has got.The Rays added McKay to the taxi squad in preparation for his major league debut, a pitching start Saturday against Texas."Without getting too far in front, he's going to get a couple times through the rotation," manager Kevin Cash said before Friday night's game against the Rangers. "He's really progressed impressively. Very determined. He's pretty special in the way he goes about his business."Around 15 family members, including his parents, will be in attendance."I think it's going to be a very exciting day for all of us to kind of see what's he about on the biggest stage," Rays center fielder Kevin Kiermaier said.Still to be determined is how many at-bats McKay will get."I take a lot of pride in it," McKay said of his two-way role. (AP) — The Tampa Bay Rays have added two-way prospect Brendan McKay to the taxi squad in preparation for his major league debut in a pitching start Saturday against Texas.McKay, taken fourth overall in the 2017 draft, was 3-0 with a 1.08 ERA in five games with Triple-A Durham. He also was a designated hitter.McKay gives Tampa Bay the option of using four starting pitchers and an opener through a rotation turn. The Rays reinstated closer José Alvarado from the restricted list and recalled right-hander Casey Sadler from Triple-A Durham to help a taxed bullpen.Alvarado left the team June 2 to tend to a family issue.Tampa Bay optioned left-hander Jalen Beeks and infielder Mike Brosseau to Durham. ST. PETERSBURG, Fla. (AP) — The Tampa Bay Rays placed pitcher Tyler Glasnow on the 10-day injured list Saturday because of a mild right forearm strain that is expected to sideline him four to six weeks.Glasnow left during the sixth inning of Friday night's 4-3 loss to the New York Yankees with tightness in his forearm. An MRI performed after the game revealed the extent of the injury."I'm super glad I took myself out, just looking at the MRI and stuff," said Glasnow, who was relieved to learn he will not need surgery. "Of course I'm not excited to be out four to six weeks, but I'm just happy that it's not 16 months.The Rays said Saturday the right-hander will be shut down from throwing for seven to 10 days, then be re-evaluated. The 30-year-old d'Arnaud was 0 for 1 in one game for the Dodgers after going 2 for 23 in 10 games for the Mets.The deal was announced several hours after the AL East-leading Rays put starting catcher Mike Zunino on the 10-day injured list with a strained left quadriceps.Zunino could miss four to five weeks.
