Fri Jul 16 202119:21Astros activate All-Star SS Carlos Correa from IL
CHICAGO (AP) — The Houston Astros have activated All-Star shortstop Carlos Correa from the injured list. Correa was placed on the IL last week due to health and safety protocols. He skipped Tuesday's All-Star game so he could spend time with his wife, Daniella, who is expecting the couple’s first child. Correa is batting .288 with 16 homers and 52 RBIs heading into Houston's weekend series against the Chicago White Sox. “We're happy to have him back. ... This guy's a heck of a player, and sometime you just take it for granted until they're gone,” manager Dusty Baker said. Houston also activated right-hander Austin Pruitt from the 60-day IL. Pruitt was acquired in a January 2020 trade with Tampa Bay, but he missed last season with an elbow injury. “We'll see what we have. Like I said, I've never seen him pitch in person,” Baker said. “It's my understanding that he throws strikes. He throws quality strikes. He'll probably be in more of a low-leverage situation because he hasn't been out there... [More]

Houston also activated right-hander Austin Pruitt from the 60-day IL before its series opener at the Chicago White Sox. Pruitt was acquired in a January 2020 trade with Tampa Bay, but he missed last season with an elbow injury. The AL West-leading Astros created room on their roster when they optioned right-hander Ralph Garza Jr. to Triple-A Sugar Land on Sunday and sent infielder Taylor Jones down on Thursday. Correa, Jose Altuve and Michael Brantley were in the starting lineup Friday night. Altuve missed the All-Star game so he could have more time to deal with unspecified issues with his left leg, and Brantley skipped the festivities in Colorado because of lingering soreness on his right side. ___ More AP MLB: https://apnews.com/hub/MLB and https://twitter.com/AP_Sports
Fri Jul 9 202118:49Astros star Correa out for health and safety protocols
HOUSTON (AP) — Houston Astros shortstop Carlos Correa has been placed on the injured list due to health and safety protocols. Friday's move came a day after Correa announced that he would not play in next week's All-Star game so he could spend time with wife Daniella, who is expecting the couple's first child. Manager Dusty Baker spoke of Correa being out of the lineup before the move was announced, but didn't provide many details aside from saying he was not at the ballpark for the game against the New York Yankees. “If he says he's out sick, for this guy not to play, especially against the Yankees and (not) be in the starting lineup, then you know he's sick," Baker said. Correa is the second Houston player to recently be put on the injured list because of health and safety protocols. Reliever Brooks Raley landed on the list on Thursday. Correa is batting .288 with 16 homers, 20 doubles and 52 RBIs in 82 games this season. The Astros recalled infielder Taylor Jones from Triple-A Sugar Land to take his spot on the roster. ___ More AP MLB: https://apnews.com/hub/MLB and https://twitter.com/AP_Sports

Wed Apr 14 202117:305 Astros land on injured list because of COVID-19 protocols
HOUSTON (AP) — The Houston Astros have placed second baseman Jose Altuve, third baseman Alex Bregman, designated hitter Yordan Álvarez, catcher Martín Maldonado and infielder Robel Garcia on the injured list because of COVID-19 health and safety protocols. General manager James Click made the announcement on Wednesday, hours before the Astros were to wrap up a three-game series with the Detroit Tigers. Click said he couldn’t say if a player had tested positive for COVID-19 or been exposed to someone who had and that the length of each player's absence would be determined by contract testing that is being performed. Click was asked if the situation could have caused the game to be postponed. “We’ve been in close contact with Major League Baseball throughout the day about that possibility," he said. “They don’t believe that there is a health-safety reason not to play. So as of now, we are playing the game." To take their place, infielders Taylor Jones, Abraham Toro and Alex De Goti, outfielder... [More]

Wed Aug 19 202019:04Knee injury ends year for Astros' lvarez, 2019's top rookie
DENVER (AP) — Houston Astros designated hitter Yordan Álvarez, last season's AL Rookie of the Year, will miss the rest of the season because of a partially torn right patellar tendon that requires surgery, manager Dusty Baker said Wednesday.Álvarez hit 27 homers in 313 at-bats last season but appeared in just two games this year. He missed Houston's summer camp and the first three weeks of the season while recovering from the coronavirus.Álvarez made his season debut on Friday and homered against the Seattle Mariners. He played again Saturday but was scratched from Sunday’s lineup because of the knee injury and placed on the 10-day injured list Tuesday.“We expect a full recovery,” Baker said. “It’s better that it happens now for spring training because he has between now and spring training to heal.”Taylor Jones was recalled from the Astros' alternate training site to take Álvarez's place on the roster.___More AP MLB: https://apnews.com/MLB and https://twitter.com/AP_Sports
