Wed Apr 1712:19Jake Meyers, Chas McCormick Sitting Wednesday
Houston Astros outfielders Jake Meyers and Chas McCormick will both start on the bench on Wednesday against the Atlanta Braves. Mauricio Dubon is starting in center field and is hitting seventh, while Yordan Alvarez will play left field and bat second against Braves left-hander Max Fried. Yainer Diaz is the designated hitter and is batting fifth. Meyers, who is hitting .237 (9-for-38) with two home runs and seven RBI in the early going, continues to split time in center field with Dubon. The former 13th-round pick in 2017 out of Nebraska-Lincoln is more of a glove-first player to begin with, leaving him little fantasy upside in deeper leagues. Dubon is the more attractive offensive player and is hitting .282 (11-for-39) but doesn't have a homer yet in 2024.

Tue Apr 216:23Jake Meyers Resting On Tuesday
Houston Astros outfielder Jake Meyers is not in the starting lineup on Tuesday against the visiting Toronto Blue Jays and right-hander Jose Berrios. Chas McCormick is moving to center field and will hit seventh, while Yordan Alvarez will be in left field and hitting second. Yanier Diaz is the designated hitter and is batting in the five-hole. Meyers, the team's regular starting center fielder, has gone 3-for-12 (.250) with a home run, two RBI, a run scored and three strikeouts through the first four games of the season in 13 plate appearances. McCormick could be a nice DFS sleeper on Tuesday, as he's hitting .625 with a 1.375 OPS in eight career at-bats against Berrios. Alvarez, on the flip side, has just one hit in 10 career at-bats against Berrios, although the one hit was a solo homer.

Sun Mar 2410:27X-Rays On Jake Meyers' Hand Come Back Clean
Houston Astros centerfielder Jake Meyers was struck in the hand by a pitch Saturday during a Grapefruit League game against the Mets. The 27-year-old was sent for X-rays on his hand which on Sunday morning Meyers stated had come back clean. The righty hitter is projected to be the Astros centerfielder, although there isn't much appeal for fantasy purposes. He was able to get to double-digit home runs last season (10), but batting out of the nine-hole will give him less opportunities for production compared to other available options. He's having a mediocre spring, batting .237 (9-for-38) with two home runs, five RBI, seven runs scored, and a stolen base over 16 games.

Fri Mar 1509:27Jake Meyers Continues To Have Strong Spring
Houston Astros outfielder Jake Meyers went 1-for-3 with a homer against the Washington Nationals in Thursday's Grapefruit League action. Meyers is coming off of his best season as a professional and is off to a nice start this spring with a .348 batting average. In addition, he has also hit two homers, four RBI, six runs and one stolen base. The 27-year-old is expected to open the season in center field for the Astros, but remains best served as a depth option in the deepest of leagues for now.

Fri Feb 901:35Jake Meyers Should Have A Long Leash
Houston Astros outfielder Jake Meyers should have a long leash as the team's starting center fielder in 2024, according to The Athletic's Chandler Rome. Both general manager Dana Brown and manager Joe Espada seem committed to giving Meyers as much everyday playing time as possible. But ultimately, his production will determine how long he stays in the lineup on a consistent basis. If Meyers does struggle, the Astros could look somewhere other than utility man Mauricio Dubon to replace him. Moving Chas McCormick to center field and using Yordan Alvarez in left field would be the more likely scenario. The 27-year-old Meyers hit .227/.296/.382 with a career-high 10 home runs, 33 RBI and five steals in 112 games in 2023. His glove is much more attractive than his bat at the moment.

Tue Dec 5 202317:22Jake Meyers, Chas McCormick To Be Regulars In 2024
Houston Astros general manager Dana Brown said that outfielder Jake Meyers will get a chance to be the team's primary center fielder next year. The Astros also plan to play Chas McCormick regularly between left and center field. The 27-year-old Meyers was a better defender than hitter in 2023 in his first full season in the big leagues, as he hit only .227/.296/.382 with a career-high 10 home runs, 33 RBI, five stolen bases and 42 runs scored in 112 games played. McCormick, 28, is the much more attractive offensive piece for fantasy managers. He had his best season yet this past year in his third big-league campaign, slashing .273/.353/.489 with an .842 OPS, a career-high 22 home runs, 70 RBI, 19 stolen bases and 59 runs scored in 115 games played.

In his three major-league seasons in Houston, the 27-year-old outfielder has hit .235/.296/.379 with 17 total home runs, 76 RBI and 10 stolen bases in 213 games played. Meyers may be a better fit long term with a new organization.

Fri Jun 16 202316:35Jake Meyers Absent From Lineup Against Reds
Houston Astros outfielder Jake Meyers will start Friday's game against the Cincinnati Reds on the bench. It's a good time for Meyers to take a breather, as he's gone hitless with two walks and five strikeouts in his last four games. He's also struggled so far in June, hitting .189 (7-for-37) with two doubles, a home run, three RBI and two stolen bases in 12 games played. The 26-year-old hasn't been much of an offensive force for the Astros all year, as he's slashing .236/.314/.402 with nine doubles, a triple, six home runs, 21 RBI and 22 runs scored in 56 games in his third major-league season. With Meyers resting, Chas McCormick is starting in center field and batting eighth in the lineup against Reds rookie left-hander Andrew Abbott.

Meyers entered the game as a pinch-runner late in the game on Tuesday and scored a run, but Thursday will be his first start of this year's postseason. The 26-year-old finished the regular season slashing .227/.269/.313 with a home run, 15 RBI, 13 runs scored and two stolen bases in 150 at-bats over 52 games played in only his second major-league season.

Houston Astros outfielder Jake Meyers (elbow) returned to the starting lineup on Monday against the Oakland Athletics after sitting out on Sunday with a bruised elbow, and he went 0-for-4 to drop his season line to .238/.293/.345 in 84 at-bats. The 26-year-old got a late start to the season but looked good initially before tailing off at the plate. He's hitting .238 (15-for-63) with a homer, 10 RBI, eight runs scored and 19 strikeouts in 18 games in the month of July. Until he starts to show some signs of life at the plate, fantasy managers in deeper leagues might want to keep him planted on their bench.

The Houston Astros reinstated outfielder Jake Meyers (shoulder) from the 60-day injured list on Friday and optioned outfielder Jose Siri to Triple-A Sugar Land in a corresponding move. Outfielder Dillon Thomas was also designated for assignment. Meyers will make his season debut on Friday in center field while batting ninth against New York Yankees right-hander Luis Severino. The 26-year-old had offseason surgery on his shoulder and hasn't played yet in 2022. He slashed .260/.323/.438 with six home runs, 28 RBI, 22 runs scored and three stolen bases in 49 games last year in his rookie season, and he's likely to fill a utility role for Houston, with occasional starts in center field.

Mon Jun 6 202211:38Jake Meyers Begins Rehab Assignment
Houston Astros outfielder Jake Meyers (shoulder) started his minor league rehab assignment with Triple-A Sugar Land on June 3 and went 0-for-4 in his first game. Meyers had surgery on Nov. 10 to fix a torn labrum in his left shoulder that he suffered while making a catch in the American League Division Series against the Chicago White Sox. He was expected to see significant time in center field this year after a solid showing in his rookie season, when he hit .260/.323/.438 with six home runs, 28 RBI, 22 runs scored and three stolen bases in 49 games played. It's unclear if the Astros still plan on giving Meyers significant playing time in the big leagues when he's ready, but fantasy managers in deeper leagues should continue to track his progress.

Tue Oct 26 202119:21Jake Meyers Not On World Series Roster
Houston Astros outfielder Jake Meyers (shoulder) was left off the World Series roster, according to Brian McTaggart of MLB.com. Meyers injured his shoulder during a play in the Division Series against the Chicago White Sox. He was included on the championship series roster, as the team thought he would recover in time before the series ended. However, he suffered a setback and was only capable of pinch-hitting and running. Meyers slashed a respectable .260/.323/.438 with six home runs and three stolen bases over 49 games this season. He's been a hitting machine in the playoffs, batting .375, though, with no extra-base hits. While Meyers is out, expect Chas McCormick to get the majority of playing time in the outfield.

Mon Oct 25 202101:29Jake Meyers' World Series Status In Doubt
It's unknown if Houston Astros outfielder Jake Meyers (shoulder) will be included on the roster for the World Series. Meyers was on the roster for the American League Championship Series against the Boston Red Sox despite suffering a left shoulder injury while crashing into the wall in the Division Series against the Chicago White Sox. The Astros thought Meyers could recover and play in the ALCS, but he suffered a setback with his shoulder. Houston was unable to replace Meyers on the ALCS roster, but he was available to pinch hit and pinch run later in the series. With Meyers unavailable on defense, Chas McCormick started four games and Jose Siri started twice in center field against Boston.

Houston Astros outfielder Jake Meyers (shoulder) was removed in the second inning of Tuesday's game against the Chicago White Sox. He suffered an injury while attempting to make a leaping catch on a home run off the bat of Gavin Sheets. It appeared to be a shoulder injury, but the team has yet to reveal any specifics of it. Chas McCormick came in to replace Meyers in the game. The 25-year-old Meyers has been solid at the plate this series. He's gone 3-for-8 with two RBI, a stolen base and a run scored.

Fri Sep 24 202116:42Jake Meyers Hitting .176 In September
Houston Astros outfielder Jake Meyers will need to turn his offense around if he hopes to be a factor in the Astros postseason plans. Meyers burst on the scene in August, slashing .316/.338/.500 with 16 runs batted in but has fallen off the map since. Meyers is slashing only .176/.288/.333 in the month of September with 19 strikeouts over his last 51 at-bats. Meyers gave a potent Astros offense a jolt in August but could get squeezed out of playing time in the postseason.

Houston Astros outfielder Jake Meyers has cooled off at the plate heading into Tuesday's matchup against the Rangers. The rookie was a revelation in the month of August, slashing .316/.338/.500 with eight extra-base hits and 16 runs batted in through his first 76 at-bats. Mon Sep 6 202117:08Jake Meyers Hitting .315 Last 15 Games
Houston Astros center fielder Jake Meyers will start and bat eighth Monday night against the Mariners. The 25-year-old has been a pleasant revelation in the second half of the season after being called up August 1. Meyers is hitting .315 over his last 15 starts and has at least one hit in 18 of his last 21 starts. Meyers has been a jolt at the bottom of a potent lineup and is slugging .488 through his first 86 at-bats. But the outfielder has only three walks compared to 29 strikeouts this season, providing little on-base upside.

Mon Aug 30 202115:54Jake Meyers Continues To Impress
Houston Astros outfielder Jake Meyers will try and stay hot heading into the team's series against the Mariners beginning Monday night. The 25-year-old was called up on August 1 and all he has done all month is hit. Meyers has hits in 11 of his last 12 starts and is slashing .324/.347/.529 through 68 at-bats with three home runs, five doubles, 10 runs scored and 15 runs batted in. Meyers is basically gripping-and-ripping right now (22 strikeouts, only two walks) but as long as he continues to hit, he will find a place in the Astros potent offensive lineup.

Wed Aug 25 202119:58Jake Meyers Tallies Two Hits
Houston Astros center fielder Jake Meyers went 2-for-5 with one run scored in the team's 6-5 win over the Royals on Wednesday afternoon. The Astros welcomed back outfielder Kyle Tucker back into the fold, but Meyers still found his way into the lineup for this matchup. The young phenom has been impressive since being called up on Aug. 1, slashing .316/.344/.526 with three doubles, three home runs, nine runs scored and 12 runs batted in through 57 at-bats. The Astros outfield is suddenly crowded, and despite Meyers' strong start to his career, the 25-year-old rookie may lose at-bats in the coming days to Tucker, veteran Michael Brantley and the currently hot-hitting Aledmys Diaz.
