Fri Aug 23 201316:41Lions cut five players
Lions released WR Chaz Schilens, CB Domonique Johnson, OT Derek Hardman, DL John Drew, and DB Ross Weaver.
Schilens, 27, is clearly on his last NFL legs. Johnson made some waves early in camp by shutting down Mike Thomas in practice, though Thomas was also cut.

Wed Jul 24 201313:55Lions sign WR Chaz Schilens
Lions signed WR Chaz Schilens, formerly of the Jets.
Schilens, 27, caught 28 balls for 289 yards and two touchdowns with the Jets last year, making six starts. Though blessed with a fast forty time and 6-foot-4, 225-pound build, Schilens is a possession receiver who averages 11.9 yards per catch in his career. He'll compete for a roster spot with Detroit.

Wed Jun 12 201308:44Report: Chaz Schilens meets with Pats
Free agent WR Chaz Schilens is attending Patriots minicamp this week on a tryout basis.
Once considered a fantasy sleeper way back in 2009 as JaMarcus Russell's No. 1 receiver, foot injuries sent Schilens into a tailspin. He's never caught more than 29 passes in a season and recorded a 29/289/2 line with the Jets last year despite all their injuries at wideout. Schilens does look good getting off the bus at 6'4/225.

Wed Mar 27 201311:02Chaz Schilens visiting the Titans
Free agent Chaz Schilens is visiting the Titans on Wednesday.
The Titans hosted fellow underwhelming free-agent wideouts Kevin Walter and Brandon Stokley on Tuesday. Schilens is the youngest of the group, at age 27. We don't believe any of the trio would be an upgrade for Tennessee.

Sun Dec 30 201211:48Jets declare Week 17 inactives
Jets declared WR Chaz Schilens, QB Greg McElroy, CB Ellis Lankster, LB Bryan Thomas, C Caleb Schlauderaff, and TE Dustin Keller inactive for Week 17 against the Bills.
Schilens is an impending free agent and may have played his final snap with the Jets. The same can be said for Keller. McElroy wanted so desperately to play in Week 17 that he tried briefly to hide a concussion from the medical staff. McElroy ultimately -- smartly -- relented, so Mark Sanchez will start.

Thu Nov 29 201216:13Jets WR Schilens limited Thursday
Chaz Schilens (head) was limited in Thursday's practice.
Schilens insists he's 100 percent. "Yeah, I'll be playing," said Schilens. "I'll be ready to go." Jets receivers are only an option in "race to the bottom" leagues against a strong Cardinals pass defense.

Wed Nov 28 201216:51Chaz Schilens practicing this week after all
Updating an earlier item, Chaz Schilens (head) practiced in full Wednesday, and says he was never diagnosed with a concussion.
The New York Daily News reported earlier Wednesday that Schilens was concussed and hadn't been cleared for practice, but that apparently wasn't the case. Regardless, Schilens remains well off the fantasy radar.

Wed Nov 28 201214:12Chaz Schilens not cleared to practice
Chaz Schilens (concussion) hasn't been cleared to practice.
Unless he's cleared on Thursday, Schilens is unlikely to suit up against the Cardinals. Schilens is averaging two catches for 20.5 yards this season.

Fri Nov 23 201201:02Schilens suffers head injury in loss
Chaz Schilens caught two passes for 28 yards in Thursday night's Week 12 loss to New England.
Schilens reportedly suffered a head injury in the game, too, and was unavailable to the media after the contest. He was targeted just three times on the night, and the one which wasn't converted, was an end zone drop. Schilens lost a fumble as well. He's not worth an add in fantasy leagues.

Sun Nov 18 201217:24Chaz Schilens has 4/48/1 afternoon in win
Starting over a gimpy Jeremy Kerley, Chaz Schilens caught four passes for 48 yards and a touchdown in New York's Week 11 win in St. Louis.
Schilens also made a pair of critical special teams tackles. Schilens' "start" lasted all of one play, as Kerley checked in on New York's second play from scrimmage, but it was still his strongest game of 2012. The 48 yards were a season high, while the score was only his second of the year. Schilens' role is growing, but not to the extent that he's on the redraft-league radar.

Sun Oct 28 201217:02Schilens scores Jets' only touchdown in loss
Chaz Schilens was held to four receptions for 29 yards in the Jets' Week 8 loss to the Dolphins.
Schillens scored a touchdown on a five-yard pass from Mark Sanchez, but was otherwise a non-factor. Despite having an expanded role with Santonio Holmes (foot, injured reserve) out for the season, Schillens is no better than a fourth option in the Jets' offense. He's still behind Stephen Hill, Jeremy Kerley, and Dustin Keller for targets.

Sun Oct 14 201216:45Chaz Schilens rotates with Hill in win
Chaz Schilens caught two passes for 23 yards in the Jets' Week 6 win over the Colts.
Schilens saw just four targets as he rotated with Stephen Hill. As long as Hill's hamstring gets through the upcoming week in good shape, Schilens' role will shrink even more. Move along.

Tue Oct 9 201200:43Schilens catches four balls in loss
Chaz Schilens caught four passes for 29 yards in Week 5.
Schilens saw six targets on the night after being thrust into the starting lineup due to injuries. He offers very little after the catch, though. Rookie Stephen Hill will look to return in Week 6. Either way, Schilens isn't anywhere close to being valuable in fantasy.

Sun Sep 30 201216:31Chaz Schilens goes for 45 yards on 3 catches
Jets WR Chaz Schilens caught three passes for 45 yards in the team's Week 4 blowout loss to the 49ers.
Schilens got the start with Stephen Hill (hamstring) inactive, and may be implanted into the starting lineup with Santonio Holmes (knee) out long term. The Jets' passing offense is putrid at this point, and Schilens lacks both consistency and durability. We wouldn't bother grabbing him in fantasy leagues.

Thu Sep 6 201218:49Jets WR Schilens resumes practicing fully
Jets WR Chaz Schilens has resumed participating in a full capacity.
Schilens should be available for multi-wide sets against the Bills this weekend, but he's not a fantasy option with rookie Stephen Hill starting opposite Santonio Holmes.

Tue Aug 28 201211:54Rex expecting Schilens and Kerley for Week 1
Jets coach Rex Ryan expects WRs Chaz Schilens (high-ankle sprain) and Jeremy Kerley (hamstring) to be ready for Week 1.
It's notable for Schilens because it suggests he's not on the roster bubble, though Ryan may simply be avoiding tipping his hand. One of the most injury-prone players in the league, Schilens will be well off the fantasy radar in the Jets' anemic passing "attack" if he earns a roster spot.

Tue Aug 21 201220:39Chaz Schilens has high-ankle sprain
Jets WR Chaz Schilens is dealing with a high-ankle sprain, and is expected to be inactive for Sunday's game against the Panthers.
It's unclear when Schilens suffered the injury, but it was likely New York's first exhibition game, where he was held without a catch. The Jets have precious little veteran receiver depth, but missing Sunday's dress rehearsal should just about ice the injury-prone Schilens' chances of cracking the 53-man roster. Schilens appeared in 15 games for the Raiders last season after missing a combined 19 contests between 2009-10, but was limited by foot and knee injuries.

Sat Aug 11 201214:56Schilens not in line for roster spot?
ESPN New York doesn't project WR Chaz Schilens to crack the Jets' 53-man roster.
Schilens provides veteran depth for a receiver corps severely lacking in it, but was rarely dynamic in four injury-plagued years with the Raiders despite being billed as a big-play threat. For what it's worth, coach Rex Ryan said Schilens "jumped out" at him early in camp.

Sat Jul 28 201217:51Rex: WR Schilens has 'jumped out' at me
Coach Rex Ryan singled out WR Chaz Schilens as a player that has "jumped out" early in training camp.
Ryan also said special teams coordinator Mike Westhoff wants to get his hands on Schilens. It's not clear yet what Schilens' offensive role will be, but he can stake a claim to the No. 3 job with Jeremy Kerley nursing a hamstring injury.

Tue Mar 20 201215:08Chaz Schilens' role yet to be determined
Jets GM Mike Tannenbaum indicated that Chaz Schilens' role is yet to be determined.
"He could catch a 100 balls ... or he could be a special teamer," said Tannenbaum, who referred to Schilens as a "really impressive kid." Braylon Edwards is still on the market, and coach Rex Ryan hinted early in the offseason that a reunion could be in the works. Schilens' role likely won't be decided until training camp.
