Sun Oct 6 201310:51Report: Richard Seymour open to playing
CBS Sports' Jason La Canfora reports free agent DT Richard Seymour is open to playing for a "contending" team by Week 10.
La Canfora reports the 49ers, Lions, and Falcons have all reached out to Seymour in recent weeks. The 34-year-old has the ability to play in both a 3-4 and 4-3 defense. He's reportedly seeking $5 million to return. It's hard to envision a team giving Seymour that kind of dough at this stage of the season.

Mon Sep 30 201316:26Seymour says he won't rejoin the Patriots
Free agent DT Richard Seymour told the Boston Herald there is "no way" he'd ever return to the Patriots.
Seymour reportedly chuckled when asked, suggesting his relationship with the organization that drafted him is irreparable. Seymour is currently spending his time working on his private pilot's license. He turns 34 next week. The Pats need defensive line help after losing Vince Wilfork (Achilles').

Fri Aug 2 201300:56Dimitroff on Richard Seymour: Never say never
Falcons GM Thomas Dimitroff told the team's flagship radio station he would "never say never" to adding free agent DT Richard Seymour.
The Falcons are currently sitting on $6 million to $7 million in salary cap space. It's possible Seymour simply doesn't want to go through the rigors of a full training camp nearing age 34. "I know there is a lot of talk about Richard and Richard is a fine man," said Dimitroff. "There is no more discussion here at this point about having him in here. ... But never say never."

Tue Jun 25 201315:03Richard Seymour hasn't ruled out retirement
Free agent Richard Seymour reiterated Tuesday that he hasn't ruled out retirement.
"I have no regrets about my career, and if it's time to move on to another chapter in my life, so be it," Seymour said in a radio interview. The remarks echoed similar comments he made in May. Seymour also said it was extremely unlikely he reunited with the Patriots. If Seymour was serious about retiring, he would have already done so. He's just waiting for someone to meet his price.

Tue Jun 18 201311:28Richard Seymour in no rush to sign
ESPN's Adam Schefter suggested on SportsCenter Tuesday that free agent DL Richard Seymour may not sign with a team until during or late in training camp.
Schefter noted that Seymour -- going on age 34 -- may not want to go through the rigors of two-a-days, which would be very understandable at this stage of his career. Schefter also indicated Seymour has a contract number in mind and won't budge: "He's only gonna play if the money is absolutely right." Perhaps the Falcons will revisit the Seymour idea after extending Matt Ryan.

Mon Jun 17 201312:10Seymour to Birds contingent on Matt Ryan?
The Atlanta Journal-Constitution believes the Falcons won't be able to sign free agent Richard Seymour until/unless Matt Ryan signs an extension that lowers his 2013 cap number.
Ryan is currently set to count $12 million against the cap in the final year of his rookie deal. Speaking over the weekend, Seymour hinted his talks with the Falcons were dead. They're likely to stay that way for the immediate future.

Sun Jun 16 201309:32Falcons, Seymour couldn't agree to terms
Free agent DT Richard Seymour says he and the Falcons haven't been able to agree to terms.
"I thank them for their efforts," Seymour said. It sounds as if talks may be dead. Back in March, there was a report that Seymour would only play football if he "gets paid a lot." That's just not going to happen. 33-year-old Seymour may be content with hanging up the cleats and walking away from the game.

Mon Jun 3 201311:01Falcons, Richard Seymour in a holding pattern
NFL.com's Ian Rapoport reports talks between the Falcons and free agent DT Richard Seymour are in a holding pattern.
GM Thomas Dimitroff has acknowledged the Falcons are keeping in touch with the former Raider and Patriot, but Rapoport reports the talks have led to "nothing at this point." It's almost certainly because Seymour's price isn't right. The Falcons have $6.3 million in cap space, and Seymour would expect to procure a good chunk of it.

Sun Jun 2 201316:06Falcons monitoring Richard Seymour situation
Falcons GM Thomas Dimitroff acknowledged that he is keeping tabs on free agent DT Richard Seymour's situation.
"Richard is a fine football player," Dimitroff said. "I know him well from his days in New England. He's a guy right now that there is a lot of discussion about him coming here, but there is nothing new to report on him. That's something that we are just continuing to keep our eye on like many other people in this league." Dimitroff added that he "still believe(s) (Seymour) can play" at age 33.

Mon May 27 201320:28Falcons waiting until June to sign Seymour?
NFL.com's Ian Rapoport reports the Falcons could be waiting until June to sign free agent DT Richard Seymour.
The Falcons have just $1.8 million in salary cap space at the moment. Once June rolls around, that number will soar to $6.3 million due to the team's post-June 1 release designation of RT Tyson Clabo. Seymour, 33, is willing to "walk into retirement," but the Falcons interest the veteran because of his ties to the state. Seymour lives in the area, went to Georgia, and his adopted son, DeVondre, is a top college prospect who has committed to the Bulldogs.

Fri May 24 201311:07'Nothing serious' with Seymour, Falcons
NFL.com's Ian Rapoport reports there's "nothing serious" going on between the Falcons and free agent Richard Seymour.
Fox Sports South reported Thursday that the sides were engaged in contract talks, but they must be of purely the exploratory variety. Yahoo Sports reported in March that Seymour would only come off the street if he "gets paid a lot." That might not happen in Atlanta, as the Falcons are up against the cap.

Thu May 23 201320:29Report: Falcons in talks with Richard Seymour
Fox Sports South reports the Falcons and free agent DT Richard Seymour are engaged in contract talks.
The Falcons are in win-now mode, and Seymour, at the age of 33, is likely only interested in playing for a contender. The four-time Pro Bowler has also been training in the Atlanta area this offseason, and he went to Georgia. Seymour, at 6-foot-6, 310, would bring some much needed beef to the interior of the Falcons' defensive line. The Falcons are up against the cap, but some money will be freed up in June due to Tyson Clabo's post-June 1 release designation.

Mon May 6 201314:36Falcons to make move after June 1?
ESPN NFC South blogger Pat Yasinskas suggests the Falcons could make a run at free agent DL Richard Seymour after June 1.
The Falcons can free up cap space with a Matt Ryan extension, and after June 1 they'll also have $4.5 million more to work with because Tyson Clabo's release was classified as a post-June 1 move. Yasinskas names Seymour as a possible post-June 1 signing, "or an experienced linebacker." (Karlos Dansby?)

Wed Mar 13 201314:10Richard Seymour considering retirement?
Yahoo's Jason Cole reports free agent DL Richard Seymour will probably only play football in 2013 "if he gets paid a lot."
Welp, it might be time for him to call it a career. As much as we liked Seymour as a potential value signing -- he can still play when healthy -- Seymour is going on age 34 and has missed 11 games due to injury over the past three seasons, including eight games last year. The Falcons and Broncos were said to be in the hunt for Seymour, but neither is going to shell out big bucks.

Wed Mar 13 201300:06Falcons, Broncos interested in Seymour
The Falcons and Broncos have "put out feelers" to free agent DL Richard Seymour.
Seymour is old and his body is beginning to break down, but he was an effective player when in the lineup with Oakland last year. He should also be fairly cheap. Seymour almost certainly wants to sign with a contender going on age 34.

Tue Feb 12 201316:29Seymour counts $14 million against '13 cap
Free agent DT Richard Seymour will count $14 million in "dead money" against the Raiders' 2013 salary cap.
That's roughly 1/8th of the expected $121 million cap, and symbolic of the Raiders' mismanagement during the final years of late owner Al Davis' reign. Seymour is universally considered to be moving on from Oakland.

Thu Dec 27 201216:08Raiders send veteran DT Seymour to I.R.
Raiders placed DT Richard Seymour on injured reserve with a hamstring injury, ending his season.
It means the 33-year-old veteran will miss exactly half of his 12th season. It's particularly poor timing for the former Patriot since he's headed toward the open market. Seymour was playing well before going down in Week 8, however, notching 15 tackles and three sacks while grading out as a top-12 defensive tackle in Pro Football Focus' ratings. Coming into 2012, Seymour had missed just four games since 2007. He should draw healthy interest in free agency, though he'll likely be limited to 1-2 year offers. He won't be back with the cash-strapped and rebuilding Raiders.

Fri Dec 21 201215:27Richard Seymour to miss 7th straight game
Raiders DT Richard Seymour will miss his seventh straight game with a hamstring injury.
Seymour's contract is up after the season, so he may have played his last snap with the Raiders. 33 years old, Seymour's body seems to be letting him down. We still wouldn't be surprised to see him finish his career back in New England.

Mon Dec 10 201222:40Seymour set to become a free agent after '12
Raiders DT Richard Seymour's contract will void at season's end, and he will become an unrestricted free agent.
Seymour restructured his deal in March, which turned his $7.5 million fully guaranteed base salary for this year into a $925,000 base with a $6.575 million guaranteed roster bonus. Among the restructuring's details, Seymour's final four years and $30 million have voided. The 33-year-old has recorded 15 tackles and three sacks in eight games this season. Seymour has missed five games with a hamstring injury.
