Patriots waived S Josh Barrett and DB Ross Ventrone.
Ventrone is constantly waived and re-signed by the Patriots, and might be back during the season. Barrett was a special teamer with no value on defense.

Wed Nov 9 201110:57Patriots lose S Josh Barrett for the season
Patriots placed SS Josh Barrett (calf) on injured reserve, ending his season.
It's a little blow to a Patriots' pass defense. Barrett was coming on as an asset next to Patrick Chung, making four starts this season. Former undrafted free agent Sergio Brown is the next man up.

Fri Feb 25 201113:33Patriots extend S Josh Barrett
Patriots signed S Josh Barrett to a two-year, $1.75 million contract.
The deal includes a $250K signing bonus. Barrett, 26, was scheduled for restricted free agency after missing all of 2010 with reconstructive shoulder surgery. He's a good bet for a roster spot in 2011, focusing on special teams.

Tue Aug 31 201019:03Patriots place S Barrett on I.R.
Patriots placed S Josh Barrett (shoulder) on injured reserve, ending his season.
Despite being claimed off waivers at the start of camp, Barrett was never going to play a down for New England due to reconstructive shoulder surgery. The Broncos won't like it, but he'll be back in 2011 to compete for a spot.
Fri Aug 6 201018:39Barrett acquired with 'future in mind'
Mike Reiss of ESPN Boston believes that S Josh Barrett was claimed off waivers by the Patriots Friday "with the future in mind."
Barrett is scheduled to undergo shoulder surgery, so he's probably not going to be available until 2011. It's interesting, nonetheless, that Bill Belichick "stole" Barrett off injury waivers from his former understudy Josh McDaniels. We imagine McDaniels and GM Brian Xanders are none to happy.

Fri Aug 6 201017:58Patriots claim S Josh Barrett
Patriots claimed S Josh Barrett off waivers from the Broncos.
It's a rare move. Barrett was waived/injured, and waived/injured players are rarely picked up by other teams. The injury was to Barrett's shoulder. The Pats may opt to stash the gung-ho special teamer on I.R., or perhaps his injury isn't that serious. Either way, he probably won't make the final 53.
Thu Aug 5 201016:17Broncos place Josh Barrett on injured reserve
Broncos placed S Josh Barrett (shoulder) on injured reserve, ending his season.
The Broncos are ultra-secretive about the extent of injuries, so we have no idea what happened to Barrett. He was supposed to be a special teamer.
