Thu Apr 11 201319:44Jets work out four kickers on Thursday
Free agent K Neil Rackers worked out for the Jets on Thursday.
Fellow kickers Derek Dimke, Garrett Lindholm, and Kenny Spencer were also in attendance. Dimke impressed Gang Green the most, and he was signed to a three-year contract. Rackers, 36, hasn't kicked in a regular season game since making 32-of-38 field goals in 2011 with the Texans.

Mon Aug 27 201208:58Neil Rackers loses kicking job to Gano
Redskins released K Neil Rackers.
A tight battle between Rackers and incumbent Graham Gano is over a week earlier than expected. Perhaps the Redskins want to bring in another challenger after Rackers went just 1-for-2 on field goals in preseason games and came up shorter on kickoffs. The Ravens released Billy Cundiff on Sunday.

Wed Jun 13 201213:57Redskins kicking battle to go thru preseason
Coach Mike Shanahan doesn't expect his kicking competition to be decided until after the preseason schedule is finished.
Incumbent Graham Gano and challenger Neil Rackers have been even through spring practices. While Gano has the stronger leg for kickoffs and long field goals, Rackers has been the more consistent of the two.

Tue Apr 24 201219:14Redskins sign ex-Texans K Neil Rackers
Redskins signed K Neil Rackers to a one-year contract.
The Texans showed little interest in bringing back Rackers after he finished near the bottom of the league in kickoff distance. Redskins incumbent Graham Gano has a stronger leg, but Rackers is more consistent on field goals. It's conceivable that the team will end up carrying both kickers to start the season. The Texans will likely address the position in the draft.

Mon Apr 23 201218:18Redskins host Neil Rackers
The Redskins hosted free agent K Neil Rackers on Monday.
Rackers converted on 32-of-38 field goals with the Texans in 2011, but the two sides have yet to come to an agreement on an extension. Washington's incumbent kicker, Graham Gano, is still under contract, but he hit only 75-percent of his field goal tries a season ago.

Mon Jan 16 201214:57Neil Rackers wants to re-sign with Texans
Free agent K Neil Rackers said during his exit interview Monday that he wants to re-sign with the Texans.
Reliant Stadium's retractable roof and Houston's potent offense make for a comfy kicking combination. "I want to be a Texan," said Rackers. "Great organization, great teammates, obviously great ball club. ... If the Texans want me and I'm back here, I would love that." Rackers, who turns 36 before next season, nailed 32-of-38 field-goal tries during the 2011 campaign.

Tue Aug 16 201108:41Rackers on target in preseason opener
Working with a new holder for the first time, Neil Rackers made field goals of 49 and 47 yards in Monday's preseason opener.
Rackers lost his holder in Matt Turk and is now working with Brad Maynard. It's not a concern. Rackers has hit on 89 percent or more of his field goals over the last three seasons and went 3-of-4 from 50-plus yards out last year. He's a top-10 kicker.

Mon Dec 27 201011:16Rackers bangs two from 50-plus
Neil Rackers made two field goals of 54-plus yards in Sunday's loss to the Broncos.
What hamstring? The Mile High air clearly helped Rackers, who is wrapping up a magnificent season. He has made 25-of-28 field goals on the year, including 8-of-11 from 40-plus yards. "I didn't kick in practice all week, so my leg felt fresh, and I had good ball contact," said Rackers.

Fri Dec 24 201016:31Neil Rackers listed as probable
Texans K Neil Rackers (hamstring) is listed as probable for Week 16.
Rackers has been sitting out or limited in some practices recently, but he's in zero danger of missing Sunday's matchup with Denver. Rackers is 22-of-25 on field goal attempts this season, and 37-of-37 on extra points.
Mon Dec 20 201010:37Rackers confirms his hammy is sore
Neil Rackers was not hindered by hamstring soreness in Sunday's loss to the Titans.
Rackers made a 37-yard field goal and hit both his extra points. "I'm feeling a little sore," Rackers said, "but that's football. We'll be ready to rock (in Denver) again next week." Rackers is currently tied for eighth in the league in field goals made with 22.

Fri Dec 17 201015:42Rackers will be fine to kick in Week 15
Texans coach Gary Kubiak confirmed Friday that Neil Rackers (hamstring) will be "fine" to kick in Week 15.
Rackers has connected on 21-of-24 field goal tries this year. Texans-Titans is projected by Vegas to be Sunday's second highest scoring game (Jags-Colts is first), and we rank Rackers as the No. 1 kicker play for Week 15.

Thu Dec 16 201018:18Rackers nursing hamstring injury
Texans K Neil Rackers has yet to practice this week while dealing with a hamstring injury.
Coach Gary Kubiak says he's not concerned, and Rackers is expected to return to practice on Friday.
Fri Sep 3 201009:59Rackers beats Brown for Texans' kicking gig
Neil Rackers has beaten out Kris Brown for the Texans' placekicking job.
It's the right move. Rackers has been far more accurate throughout his career and Brown is now dealing with plantar fasciitis in his kicking foot. Rackers immediately becomes a viable fantasy starter thanks to the Texans' high-powered offense that allowed Brown 32 field-goal attempts last season.

Fri Aug 27 201010:41Rackers, Brown still even
Coach Gary Kubiak confirmed that Neil Rackers and Kris Brown are "as even as they can be" right now.
Both kickers have been perfect in the preseason, although Rackers nailed a 52-yarder last week. Teams with shaky kicking situations will have an eye on who gets cut here.

Tue Aug 3 201002:47Neil Rackers and Kris Brown 'neck and neck'
Texans special teams coach Joe Marciano says competing Ks Neil Rackers and Kris Brown "are neck and neck right now."
While Brown is an original Texan (which scores him points in the media and possibly the fan base), Rackers has been far more accurate, and the team wouldn't have signed him if it was pleased with Brown. Expect Rackers to win.

Mon Apr 5 201020:17Texans reel in Rackers to battle Kris Brown
Texans agreed to terms with K Neil Rackers on a two-year contract.
The Texans will hold an open competition between Rackers and Kris Brown in camp. Rackers has a stronger leg for touchback purposes and has been more accurate over the last two seasons, missing just four regular season field goal attempots compared to Brown's 14, including 11 last year alone. Neither is especially great in the clutch, but Rackers should be the favorite.

Mon Apr 5 201011:59Jets expected to sign Rackers
According to the New York Post, it "would be an upset" if the Jets didn't sign free agent K Neil Rackers during his Tuesday visit.
The Jets are expected to offer $1.5 million a year ($500,000 annually less than the Cardinals' proposal), but the league is running out of open kicker jobs. In New York, Rackers would be the heavy favorite to beat out Nick Folk.
