Tue May 29 201213:09Jets sign veteran tackles Heyer, Willis
Jets agreed to terms with OTs Stephen Heyer and Ray Willis.
The Jets certainly have need for veteran depth with swinging gate Wayne Hunter at right tackle. Heyer and Willis are unlikely to be upgrades, however. Heyer has just nine starts over the past two years while Willis has yet to see NFL game action since 2009.

Thu May 24 201215:20Patriots work out OTs Heyer, Keith
Patriots worked out free agent OTs Stephon Heyer and Brandon Keith as well as free agent G/C Jamey Richard.
Following Matt Light's retirement, the Patriots lack experienced depth at tackle. Heyer or Keith could be signed in case Marcus Cannon isn't ready for the swing role.

Wed Aug 3 201108:44Heyer signs on with Raiders
Raiders signed OT Stephon Heyer, formerly of the Redskins.
Heyer proved to be backup-caliber at best in Washington, often looking like a turnstile as defensive ends got into the backfield. If he starts games, Jason Campbell is going to feel like he's back in D.C. The Raiders also re-signed OT Seth Wand.

Fri Jul 15 201114:02Skins didn't approach Heyer before lockout
Free agent OT Stephon Heyer confirmed that he did not have any contract talks with the Redskins before the lockout.
Heyer believes he's "50-50" to re-sign, but the team's actions speak pretty loudly here. There's a good chance they just want to move on. Heyer isn't a very good player, and he's certainly not a good fit for zone-blocking.

Thu Jun 9 201110:50Stephon Heyer sheds 10-12 pounds in offseason
Free agent OT Stephon Heyer has shed 10-12 pounds this offseason after playing last year in the 330s.
Heyer also said his preference is to re-sign with the Redskins. "I noticed they didn't pick up anybody [at tackle] in the draft," he said. "So, if they want me back and wanted me to fill that right tackle job, I would have no problem taking it." Heyer, 27, made five starts last year. Pro Football Focus charged him with five sacks allowed and graded him poorly across the board.

Thu Aug 5 201013:37Heyer subs at right tackle
Redskins OT Stephon Heyer filled in with the first team at right tackle Wednesday with starter Jammal Brown (hip) nicked.
This confirms that Heyer isn't really in danger of being cut. Although he proved last season that he's not a starting caliber NFL tackle, the Redskins need to keep him around as insurance in a "swing" role.

Sat Jun 19 201022:12Heyer's roster spot now in jeopardy?
Comcast Sports Net Washington suggests OT Stephon Heyer could go from "2009 starter to 2010 training camp cut" following Saturday's trade for Jammal Brown.
Heyer's 23 starts over the past two seasons were an indication of the Redskins' desperation up front more than an accurate gauge of his ability. He could develop into a fine swing tackle, though, so the Redskins would be wise to keep him for depth rather than relying on Mike Williams as a bookend sub.

Wed Apr 14 201016:15Redskins re-sign Stephon Heyer
Redskins re-signed restricted free agent OT Stephon Heyer to a one-year, $1.684 million contract.
A rare offensive lineman the Skins have actually developed to some degree, Heyer has racked up 28 starts in three seasons while shuttling between the tackle spots. The Skins will likely shore up Donovan McNabb's blind side with the No. 4 overall pick, making Heyer the favorite to start at right tackle.
