Shawntae Spencer (foot) did not practice on Friday and is unlikely to play in Week 7 against Atlanta.

Mon Oct 8 201216:32Shawntae Spencer's foot is still in a boot
Raiders RCB Shawntae Spencer's sprained right foot remains in a walking boot coming out of Oakland's Week 5 bye.
Spencer has missed three weeks now, and doesn't appear to be making much progress. LCB Ronald Bartell (cracked shoulder blade) won't return before Week 10. Continue to target Oakland's pathetic pass defense in fantasy matchups.

Mon Sep 17 201218:34Raiders lose another CB to major injury
Raiders RCB Shawntae Spencer is out indefinitely with a foot sprain.
The extent is unknown, but foot sprains can sideline players for months or be as small as day-to-day injuries. It sounds like Spencer's is of the former variety. The Raiders are already minus top cornerback Ronald Bartell (broken shoulder) for the next 3-5 weeks, so they'll likely sign another cover guy off the street this week. Target this defense for fantasy passing-game matchups.

Fri Aug 3 201220:58Shawntae Spencer getting burned in camp
New Raiders CB Shawntae Spencer is reportedly "letting wide receivers do whatever they want" early in training camp.
Beat writer Vittorio Tafur suggests Spencer may already be a "concern for coaches," he's covering so poorly. Meanwhile, second-year corner Demarcus Van Dyke has had a strong camp and picked off a pass in Friday's practice. If Spencer doesn't pan out, Van Dyke or Chimdi Chekwa could steal his starting job.

Thu Mar 15 201212:1849ers release veteran CB Shawntae Spencer
49ers released CB Shawntae Spencer.
Spencer lost his starting job last summer before tumbling even further down the depth chart during the season, and was made expendable by the return of Carlos Rogers and signing of Perrish Cox. There was no chance the 49ers were going to pick up his $3.3 million salary. CSN Bay Area's Matt Maiocco recently listed Houston, Seattle and St. Louis as possible destinations for Spencer were he to be traded.

Thu Feb 16 201217:14Report: SF will allow Spencer to seek trade
CSN Bay Area reports the 49ers will allow disgruntled CB Shawntae Spencer to seek a trade.
After losing his starting job while nursing a hamstring injury in training camp, Spencer had fallen to the No. 5 cornerback by the end of the season. He had started 32 consecutive games from 2009-2010. Due $3.3 million in 2012, the 30-year-old isn't going to attract much interest on the trade market. Beat writer Matt Maiocco lists the Texans, Seahawks, and Rams as possible fits.

Wed Jan 25 201214:1849ers expected to release Shawntae Spencer
Updating a previous item, the 49ers are expected to release CB Shawntae Spencer this offseason.
We initially speculated that the Niners might dangle Spencer on the trade market, but they're expected to cut ties with an unhappy player due $3.2 million. Current Texans DBs coach Vance Joseph tutored Spencer from 2005 until 2010, the last of which was Spencer's career year. After he's released, Spencer could become a candidate to replace free agent Jason Allen in Houston.

Shawntae Spencer was a healthy scratch in last Sunday's win over the Redskins.
It's a rapid fall from grace for Spencer, who entered this season riding a streak of 32 consecutive starts. Now he has fallen behind starters Carlos Rogers and Tarell Brown, and behind backups Chris Culliver and Tramaine Brock. The 49ers currently have the No. 1 scoring defense in the league.

Fri Aug 12 201112:12Shawntae Spencer to lose his starting job?
49ers RCB Shawntae Spencer has missed the last eight days of camp with a strained left hamstring.
CSN Bay Area's Matt Maiocco suggests that Spencer's job may hang in the balance with third-round pick Chris Culliver starting at right corner in the Niners' preseason opener. Spencer's performance tailed off last year, and he won't have anything handed to him by the new coaching staff. Nickel back Tarell Brown has also been missing time with an undisclosed ailment.
