Mon Apr 20 201521:10Wilson announced retirement from NFL on Monday
Wilson announced his retirement from the NFL on Monday, Craig Morgan of FOX Sports Arizona reports.
Wilson signed a one-day contract with the Cardinals, the team that drafted him in 2001 and with whom he spent 12 of his 14 NFL seasons. The hard-hitting safety earned five Pro Bowl selections while recording 27 interceptions and 25.5 sacks over his career, with the latter number the fourth-highest total for a defensive back in NFL history. He didn't appear in any games over the last two seasons after being placed on injured reserve by the Patriots in 2013 and getting cut by the Bears during training camp in 2014.
Sun Aug 24 201400:29Wilson cut by Bears on Saturday
Wilson was cut by the Bears on Saturday, Brad Biggs of the Chicago Tribune reports.
Wilson was unable to put distance between himself and the competition among reserve safeties, recording six tackles (three solo) and a pass defended in three preseason games. The 35-year-old likely has something left in the tank, so it wouldn't surprise if he was scooped up by a needy team before the regular season commences.
Tue Jul 22 201412:57Adrian Wilson didn't tear Achilles' in 2013
Bears SS Adrian Wilson says he didn't tear his Achilles' last summer, but was dealing with Haglund's deformity.
Haglund's deformity is most common in women. It's a bony enlargement on the back of the heel near the Achilles' tendon that often leads to bursitis, a painful inflammation of the bursa sac. It becomes irritated when rubbing against shoes. Wilson is competing for a roster spot in a wide-open Bears safety group.

Mon Jun 23 201416:07Bears ink ex-Cardinals SS Adrian Wilson, 34
Bears signed SS Adrian Wilson and TE Jeron Mastrud.
A likely future member of the Arizona Cardinals' Ring of Honor, 34-year-old Wilson will give his fading career one last shot with the safety-needy Bears, who used Ryan Mundy and fourth-round pick Brock Vereen as starters during minicamp. Wilson is a strict in-the-box safety, and missed all of 2013 with a torn Achilles' tendon. Mastrud, formerly of the Raiders, is a blocking tight end.

Fri Apr 4 201414:42Patriots cut loose '13 FA bust Adrian Wilson
Patriots released SS Adrian Wilson.
New England's signing of Pat Chung made Wilson expendable. Now 34 years old, Wilson never played a snap for the Patriots in 2013 after signing a three-year, $5 million deal last March. He tore his Achilles' tendon in the preseason finale. Achilles' tears are career threatening even for young players, and this one could easily end Wilson's career. Wilson is a five-time Pro Bowler and one-time first-team All Pro. Though probably not a Hall of Famer, Wilson will eventually be a member of the Arizona Cardinals' Ring of Honor. He does hope to keep playing.

Tue Feb 18 201415:28Adrian Wilson (Achilles) to be ready for OTAs
Adrian Wilson (Achilles') is expected to be ready for OTAs.
Wilson tore his Achilles' last preseason and spent the year on I.R. It's no lock that he'll actually fully recover as a 34-year-old. Wilson also may not be long for New England. The Patriots can save $1.2 million against the cap by releasing him.

Sat Feb 1 201414:54Patriots likely to release Adrian Wilson
Patriots S Adrian Wilson (Achilles' surgery) suggested that he doesn't expect to be back in New England in 2014.
Wilson signed a three-year deal with the Patriots back in March, but missed the entire season on injured reserve. Even if he manages to get healthy, Wilson will likely struggle to draw interest from teams as a rotational safety. New England can save $1.2 million in cap space by releasing Wilson this offseason.

Fri Dec 20 201310:12Adrian Wilson underwent Achilles' surgery
Patriots S Adrian Wilson (injured reserve) tweeted that he underwent Achilles' surgery.
Wilson was placed on injured reserve before the season started, but the team had made no announcement to what the injury was. We're not sure if Wilson tore his Achilles' or not, but he just recently began running on Thursday. He signed a three-year deal with the Patriots in March. At 34 years old, Wilson is a candidate to be released in the offseason. His career may be over.

Sat Aug 31 201318:19Patriots stow away SS Adrian Wilson on I.R.
Patriots placed S Adrian Wilson on injured reserve with an undisclosed injury, ending his season.
The Patriots didn't announce what Wilson "injured." He played into the second half of Thursday's preseason finale. It's possible the Pats are just paying Wilson a veteran courtesy by letting him get paid instead of releasing him. Wilson was signed to be a hard-hitter and veteran leader in New England's safety corps, but looked greatly diminished in camp. Going on 34, it's possible the longtime Arizona Cardinal has played his final down of meaningful football.

Mon Aug 26 201309:28Pats' Adrian Wilson on the roster bubble?
The Boston Globe believes Patriots S Adrian Wilson is on the roster bubble.
Beat writer Ben Volin calls Wilson's play "reminiscent of John Lynch" in 2008. Lynch was signed to be a hard-hitter and locker-room leader, but couldn't survive final cuts. Wilson has been running behind Steve Gregory opposite Devin McCourty.

Mon Jul 22 201308:24Adrian Wilson to open camp at strong safety
Adrian Wilson will open training camp as the Patriots' starting strong safety.
Wilson was reduced to a part-time role with the Cardinals in 2012, but should get the majority of playing time as an in-the-box safety in the Patriots' base defense. He enters camp as the favorite to start and will likely be replaced by Steve Gregory and Tavon Wilson in passing situations.

Fri Mar 15 201319:27Patriots nab SS Adrian Wilson on 3-year deal
Patriots agreed to terms with SS Adrian Wilson, formerly of the Cardinals, on a three-year contract.
Wilson was one of the many veterans the Patriots hosted for a Friday visit. After grading out as Pro Football Focus' No. 2 safety in 2011, Wilson fell all the way to No. 59 in 2012 while being benched from Arizona's nickel defense midway through the season. 33-year-old Wilson is an in-the-box safety who will likely play early downs before being replaced by some combination of Steve Gregory and Tavon Wilson in passing situations. Wilson will probably be hailed as Bill Belichick's "next Rodney Harrison," but it's highly, highly unlikely he'll have 50 percent of that kind of impact.

Thu Mar 14 201321:46Adrian Wilson to visit the Patriots
Free agent SS Adrian Wilson will visit the Patriots.
It's Wilson's first known visit since being released by the Cardinals six days ago, and the 30-plus-year-old free agent safeties aren't getting much play, yet. 33-year-old Wilson's play fell off last season as he was demoted out of the nickel defense, but he can still be a solid presence as an in-the-box safety.

Fri Mar 8 201316:31Adrian Wilson wants to keep playing football
Free agent SS Adrian Wilson plans to play at least one more season.
Wilson, going on age 34, hopes to land with a West Coast team who'll likely be in playoff contention. Very limited at this stage of his career, box-safety Wilson could perhaps intrigue a club like Denver or San Diego if he's willing to play for near the league minimum. Wilson is a two-down strong safety.

Fri Mar 8 201312:03Cardinals cut veteran safety Adrian Wilson
Cardinals released SS Adrian Wilson.
Wilson said in December that he didn't expect to be back for a 13th year in the desert, and he was right. The 2001 third-round pick is just one year removed from an elite campaign, but saw his play slip in 2012. He was demoted out of nickel packages in November. With the safety market loaded with experienced talent, Wilson may have to wait a while for a new deal.

Mon Dec 10 201212:12Adrian Wilson expects to move on from AZ
Cardinals SS Adrian Wilson doesn't expect to be back in Arizona next season.
The 33-year-old safety is signed through 2015, but was demoted out of nickel packages in November. "It hurts," Wilson said. "It hurts. They can give you 1,000 reasons why that is, but I know I can still play football. It's tough right now." Wilson says the decreased snaps have made him "ponder about my future." If the disintegrating Cardinals decide to clean house this offseason, Wilson will almost certainly be let go.

Sun Nov 18 201221:03Adrian Wilson benched by Cards
Cardinals SS Adrian Wilson was demoted out of nickel packages in Sunday' Week 11 loss to the Falcons.
Wilson was only on the field in base sets as he finished with one tackle and no sacks, pass breakups or forced turnovers. Rashad Johnson started the game, marking the first time Wilson hasn't started since he joined the team in 2008. "Looks like it worked pretty well, didn't it?" coach Ken Whisenhunt said of the secondary change. "Like I said, it was consistent with our message to the team and I think our team rallied behind that. Our team played hard today."

Wed Jan 18 201219:31Adrian Wilson due $3M bonus in March
Cardinals SS Adrian Wilson is due a $3 million roster bonus in March.
It's on top of his $6.5 million salary, and a lot to pay for a 32-year-old "box" safety. Pro Football Focus did grade Wilson as the second best cover safety in football this past season. He had 65 tackles and one interception.
