Thu Jul 18 201310:29Chris Gocong has an offer from someone
Free agent OLB Chris Gocong reportedly has an offer from one unknown team.
The Rams are expected to go with Will Witherspoon for veteran depth, so Gocong's offer is from elsewhere. At age 29 and coming off a torn Achilles' tendon, he won't be guaranteed a roster spot no matter where he lands.

Thu Jun 13 201313:58Rams working out free agent LB Gocong
Free agent OLB Chris Gocong worked out for the Rams on Thursday.
Gocong, 29, missed all of last season with a torn Achilles'. He was released by the Browns at the beginning of April, and he later participated in Eagles rookie minicamp on a tryout basis. The Rams are looking for depth at outside linebacker behind starters Alec Ogletree and Jo-Lonn Dunbar.

Thu May 9 201314:00Two free agent LBs to work out with Eagles
Free agent LBs Chris Gocong and Gerald McRath will try out with the Eagles at rookie minicamp this weekend.
Gocong, 29, and McRath, 26, haven't drawn an ounce of interest in free agency. Gocong tore his Achilles' last season and just started running in February, while McRath missed the entire 2012 season with a torn left patella tendon. The Eagles have depth at linebacker, but maybe one of the two veterans will impress.

Fri Feb 22 201313:47Gocong's (Achilles') recovery is 'on target'
Browns OLB Chris Gocong's (Achilles') rehab is "on target," and he's started running.
Coach Rob Chudzinski says he wasn't sure if Gocong would be ready for OTAs, but he's fully expected to be good for training camp. Gocong is due a $4.45 million salary with a $100,000 workout bonus, and could be asked to take a pay cut.

Sun Feb 10 201315:52Browns expected to ask Gocong for pay cut
The Browns are expected to ask OLB Chris Gocong to slash his $4.45 million base salary.
He's also due a $100K workout bonus. Gocong, 29, is a questionable fit for new coordinator Ray Horton's 3-4 defense, and he has a bloated base salary coming off of a torn Achilles'. If he doesn't accept the pay-cut proposal, the Browns probably wouldn't think twice about cutting ties with Gocong for good.

Tue Jan 29 201310:46Chris Gocong will be ready for camp
Browns OLB Chris Gocong (Achilles) is expected to be ready for training camp.
Gocong ruptured his Achilles' tendon a month before the 2012 season started. Owed $4.45 million in 2013 base salary, he'll have to prove his health and effectiveness to a new regime in order to stay on board. Gocong fits best as a pass-rushing 4-3 weak-side linebacker.

Sat Aug 4 201215:42LB Gocong has torn Achilles, done for 2012
Browns WLB Chris Gocong has been officially diagnosed with a ruptured right Achilles' tendon, and is done for the season.
He'll undergo surgery next week. A 16-game starter each of the past two years in Cleveland, Gocong notched 70 tackles, 3.5 sacks and two forced fumbles last season. With SLB Scott Fujita suspended for the first three games of the year, Kaluka Maiava and fourth-round pick James-Michael Johnson will serve as the Browns' starting outside linebackers for at least three weeks. GM Tom Heckert will certainly be on the lookout for veteran linebacker help.

We typically wait for more details before reporting on camp injuries, but the consensus among Browns beat writers is that Gocong's injury is serious. ESPN Cleveland's Tony Grossi speculates it's an Achilles issue. We'll know more soon, but it sounds like Cleveland's weak-side linebacker is dealing with a possibly season-ending injury.

Wed Sep 28 201118:30Browns sign WLB Gocong to extension
Browns signed WLB Chris Gocong to a three-year, $16.8 million extension through 2014.
A former defensive end at little known Cal-Poly, Gocong has morphed from college pass rusher into 4-3 weak-side linebacker with Cleveland. Gocong, 27, only has nine tackles through three games, but his run defense has been stellar and was last season as well. He's just not on the IDP radar anymore.

Wed Sep 7 201113:38Chris Gocong returns to Browns practice
Browns WLB Chris Gocong (neck) returned to practice Wednesday.
This was the team's plan all along. Gocong missed much of camp and preseason, but the Browns wanted to take necessary precautions before bringing him back from a painful stinger. He should get the start over Kaluka Maiava Sunday.

Tue Aug 23 201113:24Gocong (neck) shooting for Week 1
Browns WLB Chris Gocong's neck stinger may be more serious than originally thought.
Stingers generally leave a player day-to-day. Gocong is hoping to practice next week, but the goal is to be ready for the season opener. He's almost certainly done for the rest of the preseason schedule.

Mon Aug 1 201123:12Chris Gocong working at weak-side 'backer
Chris Gocong is working as the Browns' starting weak-side linebacker in camp.
Gocong isn't in the middle as beat writers projected over the spring. D'Qwell Jackson will be the favorite to lead the team in tackles, but it's smart for the Browns to keep Gocong in the starting lineup nonetheless. He's one of Cleveland's better run stuffers, and the college defensive end can blitz in a pinch.

Tue Jun 14 201120:41Browns haven't settled on middle linebacker
Defensive coordinator Dick Jauron has not yet settled on a middle linebacker for his 3-4 system.
The coaching staff has moved Scott Fujita, Chris Gocong, and D'Qwell Jackson around at meetings. Fujita appears to be locked in as an "ideal Sam linebacker," but Jauron wants Gocong and Jackson to determine their positions on the field. Gocong has been considered the favorite to stick in the middle.

Fri Feb 25 201114:59Browns want Chris Gocong to play middle
Updating previous items, the Browns envision Chris Gocong at middle linebacker in their new 4-3 defense.
The Browns want D'Qwell Jackson on the weak side, and envision Scott Fujita as a "prototype" strong-side 'backer. Gocong is signed for 2011, and suddenly is a huge IDP sleeper for 2011 fantasy leagues. According to Pro Football Focus, Gocong was a dominant run defender last season. He was also solid against the pass, indicating a possible every-down middle linebacker.

Mon Aug 2 201013:41Gocong starting at inside linebacker?
Chris Gocong has been lining up with the first-team at inside linebacker next to D'Qwell Jackson early in camp.
Look for it to stay that way, too. Matt Roth and Scott Fujita are locked in as the starting outside linebackers, so Gocong won't see much time as an edge rusher. Veteran Eric Barton's roster spot is in jeopardy in a crowded linebacker corps.

Mon Jun 28 201009:03Gocong will be a factor against the run?
Browns LB Chris Gocong has been impressive in spring workouts, per the Cleveland Plain Dealer.
The Browns believe that Gocong will be a factor against the run, indicating that they are comfortable using him as an inside linebacker. Still, Gocong's main role will be to rush the passer off the edge out of the 3-4. That's the skill that got him drafted 71st overall in 2006.
