Mon Aug 12 201312:51Bears agree to terms with veteran RB Brinkley
Bears agreed to terms with RB Curtis Brinkley, formerly of the Chargers.
The deal will likely be finalized Monday afternoon. Brinkley caught 12 passes in 10 games for the Chargers last season, but offers zero as a ball-carrier. He's averaged a pathetic 3.2 yards on his 72 career totes. He's only getting the call because Armando Allen is week-to-week with a hamstring injury.

Tue Mar 12 201300:09Chargers will not tender Curtis Brinkley
The Chargers will not tender RB Curtis Brinkley, making him an unrestricted free agent.
27-year-old Brinkley generated some fantasy football interest in 2011 when Ryan Mathews was hurt, but he brings next to nothing to the table as a ball carrier. Brinkley averages 3.2 YPC in his career. He will not be a hot free agent.

Sun Dec 16 201219:41Brinkley totals 56 yards in Week 16
Chargers RB Curtis Brinkley led the team with 42 yards on six carries and caught three passes for 14 yards in the team's Week 16 loss to Carolina.
Brinkley's role increased due to Ryan Mathews' early second-quarter shoulder injury. A slightly effective checkdown target but practice squad-caliber carrier of the football, Brinkley held down the fort in San Diego's blowout loss. He'll probably get 10-12 touches in Week 16 against the Jets, assuming Mathews and Ronnie Brown (hamstring) are unavailable for that game.

Wed Dec 12 201214:28Curtis Brinkley back with the Chargers
Chargers re-signed RB Curtis Brinkley.
Brinkley appeared in seven games for the Chargers earlier this season, and started in Ryan Mathews' absence in Week 2. Although he could be in for the occasional touch over San Diego's final three games, he should mostly be limited to special teams.

Sun Sep 30 201211:46Chargers Week 4 inactives
Chargers declared RB Curtis Brinkley, DBs Brandon Taylor and Shareece Wright, K Nate Kaeding, NT Antonio Garay, and TE Ladarius Green inactive for Week 4 against the Chiefs.
Brinkley has fallen behind Jackie Battle and Ronnie Brown on the depth chart. San Diego is dressing only three healthy cornerbacks. Nick Novak was signed to replace the injured Nate Kaeding.

Sun Sep 16 201220:03Curtis Brinkley runs for 43 yds on 18 carries
Curtis Brinkley received the majority of backfield touches in Sunday's win over the Titans, rushing for 43 yards on 18 carries.
Brinkley also caught four passes for 23 yards and was targeted often by Philip Rivers due to the Titans causing plenty of pressure on passing downs. However, Jackie Battle was called to close out the game on the ground, but in a close game Brinkley appeared to be in line for the lion's share of touches.

Sun Sep 16 201215:25Curtis Brinkley, not Ronnie Brown, starting
Curtis Brinkley is starting Sunday's game against the Titans.
Ronnie Brown is completely out of gas and the Chargers know it. He'll come off the bench and serve as the third-down back. Brinkley, a former undrafted free agent, is a desperation option only for fantasy owners.

Tue Sep 11 201202:30Brinkley gets bulk of carries for Chargers
Curtis Brinkley rushed ten times for 12 yards and caught three passes for 28 yards in Week 1.
Brinkley led the San Diego backfield in touches in Ryan Mathews' (clavicle) absence. If not for the receiving yards it would have been an abysmal night. Brinkley showed very little burst, but that could have been the side effects of an August thigh injury. Either way, he has no fantasy value moving forward.

Fri Aug 31 201200:09Brinkley (thigh) missing valuable time
Chargers RB Curtis Brinkley has missed "valuable time" with a thigh injury of late.
The injury kept Brinkley out of Thursday's preseason finale while a "spry" Ronnie Brown carried five times for 25 yards and added two receptions for 19 yards versus the 49ers. Other sites have hyped the plodding Brinkley as a fantasy play with Ryan Mathews (fractured clavicle) in doubt for Week 1, but Brown is slated for feature-back duties at Oakland. Brinkley is undraftable.

Wed Jul 25 201219:54Curtis Brinkley on Chargers roster bubble
The Union-Tribune San Diego's pre-camp Chargers 53-man roster projection has the team keeping three tailbacks, none of which is Curtis Brinkley.
Rookie Edwin Baker also misses the cut in beat reporter Michael Gehlken's final 53 projection. We did some tape work on Brinkley over the offseason and were not impressed with his physical skills. It makes sense that -- behind Ryan Mathews -- the Chargers would keep Ronnie Brown and Jackie Battle over him.

Sun Jan 1 201222:52Brinkley gets 19 touches in Week 17 win
Curtis Brinkley rushed 16 times for 52 yards and caught three passes for 12 yards in the Chargers' Week 17 win over Oakland.
With Ryan Mathews (calf) inactive, Brinkley led San Diego in carries on Sunday. The former undrafted free agent from Syracuse was ultimately used sparingly in 2011, largely because Brinkley is not much of a rushing threat. His 30 carries over the course of the season may go down as a career high. Brinkley can play in the passing game, but is a replacement-level back or worse.

Sun Dec 11 201114:51Curtis Brinkley inactive for Chargers
Chargers declared RB Curtis Brinkley inactive for Sunday's game against the Bills.
This looks like a healthy scratch for Brinkley and it confirms Ryan Mathews, Mike Tolbert and Jacob Hester are all close to 100 percent. Outside of their offensive linemen on injured reserve, the Chargers are healthy. The rest of their inactives: WR Bryan Walters, T Tony Moll, LB Everette Brown, LB Nate Triplett and S Darrell Stuckey.

Fri Nov 4 201115:10Curtis Brinkley medically cleared for Week 9
Chargers RB Curtis Brinkley (concussion) has been medically cleared for Week 9.
Brinkley is expected to "spell" Mike Tolbert against the Packers. A candidate for no more than 6-9 touches, Brinkley just won't be a Week 9 fantasy option.

Fri Nov 4 201108:10Chargers optimistic on RB Brinkley
The Chargers are optimistic that RB Curtis Brinkley (concussion) will be active for Sunday's game against the Packers.
Brinkley seems to have turned a corner on Thursday. He's yet to pass his concussion tests, but coach Norv Turner expects him to do so prior to Sunday's game. If he does gain clearance, Brinkley will be a clear-cut backup to Mike Tolbert.

Wed Nov 2 201118:17Curtis Brinkley misses practice Wednesday
Chargers RB Curtis Brinkley (concussion) was held out of Wednesday's practice.
Brinkley is in a race to get cleared for Week 9 after a late-game concussion Monday night. With Mike Tolbert back from his hamstring and hand injuries, Brinkley isn't likely to be a fantasy factor against Green Bay regardless.

Tue Nov 1 201101:37Brinkley makes some noise in overtime loss
Curtis Brinkley took over for injured Ryan Mathews (groin) in Week 8's overtime loss to the Chiefs, posting 10 carries for 43 yards and a touchdown to go with three catches and 24 yards through the air.
He also added a two-point conversion immediately after his score. He suffered a concussion during the game and will go through the league's mandated screening process. Even if he's fine, it would be much too optimistic to pick him up before learning whether Mathews and/or Mike Tolbert (hamstring, hand) will be ready for Week 9.

Sun Oct 30 201112:19Brinkley to be active on Monday
Chargers RB Curtis Brinkley is expected to be active for Monday's game against the Chiefs.
With Mike Tolbert (hamstring, hand) sidelined, Brinkley will be "up" as Ryan Mathews' primary backup. However, Brinkley is a borderline NFL talent that has two career carries. We're expecting the Chargers to ride Mathews until the wheels fall off tomorrow night.
