Tue Oct 13 201513:09Babin released by Ravens on Tuesday
Babin was released by the Ravens on Tuesday.
The Ravens were desperate for help at outside linebacker after Terrell Suggs (Achilles) suffered a season-ending injury, but Babin ultimately just made things worse, with his primary impact coming via careless penalties. Given how poorly he played, the 35-year-old Babin may not get another shot in the NFL.
Tue Sep 15 201520:42Babin signed one-year contract with Ravens on Tuesday
Babin signed a one-year contract with the Ravens on Tuesday, ESPN's Adam Schefter reports.
After losing Terrell Suggs to a season-ending Achilles injury in Sunday's opener against the Broncos, the Ravens moved quickly to bring in the veteran Babin to bolster their ranks at outside linebacker. Babin has shown plenty of pass-rushing ability in the past, most notably with an 18-sack campaign for the Eagles, but he's bounced around the league since that time. Now 35 years old, Babin is probably best suited for a part-time role at this stage of his career.
Wed Jul 23 201411:32Jets add veteran pass-rusher Jason Babin
Jets signed DL Jason Babin to a two-year deal.
The second year of the contract is a team option. Financial details were not immediately available, but we'd expect very little guaranteed money for a 34-year-old player that was cut by the Jaguars a month ago. It's still a nice flier for the Jets, as Rex Ryan has squeezed plenty out of defensive players with far less ability. Babin led the Jags with 7.5 sacks and 19 quarterback pressures a year ago. He profiles as a situational pass-rusher in New York.

Wed Jul 23 201410:47Jason Babin visits with Rex's Jets
Free agent DE Jason Babin visited the Jets Monday.
Babin is 34 and a bit of a headcase, but did lead the Jags with 7.5 sacks and 19 quarterback pressures last season. He'd be a low-cost situational toy for Rex Ryan to kick the tires on at camp.

Thu Jun 19 201408:57Jaguars dump veteran pass-rusher Jason Babin
Jaguars released DE Jason Babin.
Babin is 34 years old now and wasn't a lead-pipe lock for the final roster, but this one still comes as a mild surprise. He led the Jags with 7.5 sacks and 19 quarterback pressures last season, and was re-signed in March to provide depth at the Leo spot in Gus Bradley's defense. That pact included $500,000 guaranteed. FOX's Mike Garafolo says the Bucs and Falcons are two pass-rush needy teams that could kick the tires on Babin.

Mon Mar 10 201414:54Jaguars' Babin voids final two years of deal
Jaguars DE Jason Babin voided the final two years of his contract, and is now a free agent.
Babin was a candidate for release, so it was likely a mutual decision. Babin was due $6 million in each of the next two seasons. The fact that he'd walk away from that kind of money is a pretty obvious sign the Jags were pushing for a major pay cut. The Florida Times Union believes the sides could eventually agree on a new deal. Going on 34, Babin notched 7.5 sacks and three forced fumbles across 16 starts last season, but got out-played by Andre Branch. He'll be viewed as a situational pass rusher on the open market.

Sat Feb 15 201413:47Jaguars could save $6.18M by cutting Babin
ESPN Jaguars blogger Michael DiRocco considers DE Jason Babin a candidate to be released.
Babin is due $6 million in 2014 and was outplayed by Andre Branch last season. He started all 16 games at the LEO position, but graded out as just the No. 39 defensive end by Pro Football Focus. Babin is open to re-negotiating his contract and could be brought back at a reduced salary.

Mon Oct 14 201316:44Report: Jags get calls about DE Jason Babin
National Football Post's Jason Cole reports the Jaguars have received trade inquiries about DE Jason Babin.
Babin is 33 years old with a $4.225 million guaranteed salary, so it's likely Jacksonville isn't getting offered much in the way of compensation. He has two sacks and 16 tackles through six starts. Still, Babin could help a team as a situational, Wide-9 edge rusher. He's not in the Jags' long-term plans.

Tue Jul 23 201318:39Jason Babin medically cleared for camp
Jaguars RE Jason Babin (groin surgery) was medically cleared for training camp.
He passed his conditioning test and is all systems go. Babin will be the Jaguars' primary "Leo" defensive end, which is the go-to pass rusher in Gus Bradley's scheme. He's got legit IDP value as a sneaky DL2/3 with some upside.

Fri Jun 28 201311:41Babin (groin): I'll be healthy in nine days
Jaguars RE Jason Babin (groin surgery) estimates he's "about nine days out from being 100 percent."
Babin's oddly specific timetable has him on track to be 100 percent well ahead of camp. Babin is excited about manning the "Leo" role in coach Gus Bradley's hybrid 4-3. "It's a position that I can only dream about because you're going to line up on a tackle or you're going to line up on the open side, and you're going to rush the quarterback every down, for the most part," Babid said. "I don't think I could ask for anything more than that."

Tue Jun 4 201313:19Jags' Babin undergoes groin surgery Tuesday
Jaguars DE Jason Babin underwent groin surgery Tuesday, but is expected to be ready for training camp.
Groin surgery can sometimes mean a sports-hernia operation, but that doesn't appear to be the case here. Slated for the "Leo" role in coach Gus Bradley's hybrid 4-3, Babin is going to get plenty of opportunities to get after the quarterback during his age-33 season. In decline, however, he'll likely be much closer to the seven sacks he notched last season than the 18 he tallied in 2011.

Wed Feb 13 201311:58Jason Babin to play Leo role for Jag
Jaguars DL coach Todd Wash said Jason Babin will play the "Leo" role.
It's a critical position because it's often the only pure pass rusher on the field for early downs. Wash and Gus Bradley used Chris Clemons and Bruce Irvin to fill the job in Seattle last year and they combined to rack up 19.5 sacks. Babin figures to be far less productive as he's coming off a seven-sack season and is entering his age-33 campaign.

Mon Dec 3 201209:23Jason Babin starts in his Jags debut
Newly signed DE Jason Babin started in his Jaguars debut Sunday.
Babin was claimed off waivers on Wednesday and immediately took the spot of the injured Austen Lane (foot). He ended up splitting time with George Selvie, recording four tackles, no sacks, no quarterback hits and one roughing the passer penalty. He's not going to save the Jags' miserable pass rush.

Thu Nov 29 201208:18Jason Babin will play on Sunday
Coach Mike Mularkey said DE Jason Babin will play in Sunday's game against the Bills.
The 2-9 Jags aren't going to pay Babin $1.69 million over the final games to ease him in. They are dead last in the league with just 13 sacks on the season. "It's a good pickup," Mularkey said. "He's had a lot of success over the last three years and we could use some help in that area. He'll fit what we're doing." Babin could even end up starting over Austen Lane, who is nursing a foot injury.

Wed Nov 28 201216:16Jagurs place winning waiver claim on Babin
Jaguars claimed DE Jason Babin off waivers from the Eagles.
Jacksonville is second in the waiver claim order, so Babin didn't make it far. He should immediately goose the league's worst pass rush, and will be auditioning for a roster spot in 2013. Babin is signed through 2015, but has no guaranteed money beyond 2012. Even if he's back in Jacksonville next season, it will almost certainly be on a renegotiated deal. The author of 36.5 sacks since 2010, Babin will turn 33 in May.

Wed Nov 28 201211:01Bears could be interested in Babin?
Beat writer Sean Jensen believes the Bears have interest in free agent DE Jason Babin.
Like many teams, the Bears may not want to put a claim in on Babin because they'd have to eat the remainder of his 2012 salary, roughly $1.8 million. But if he clears waivers at 4 p.m. today, expect a whole bunch of teams to get in on a guy one year removed from an 18-sack season. The Lions, who run the wide-nine scheme Babin prefers, could also show interest.

Tue Nov 27 201215:02Eagles cut two-time Pro Bowler Jason Babin
Eagles released DE Jason Babin.
The Phillies have won a game more recently than the Eagles, who are three points removed from a winless season. This moves tells us the organization is turning the page on the 2012 season, seeking more playing time for Brandon Graham and 2012 second-rounder Vinny Curry. A Pro Bowler in 2010 and 2011 with 30.5 sacks, Babin has long been a liability against the run and was underwhelming as a pass rusher (5.5 sacks) this season. The Titans have moved on from their wide-9 scheme, but the Lions or Bengals could be interested in the 32-year-old.

Wed Nov 14 201209:12Jason Babin likely done with Eagles
The Philadelphia Inquirer expects Jason Babin to be released after the season.
Babin is owed $3.8 million in base salary in 2013 and has 3.5 sacks in nine games. He's a wide-nine player and wide-nine mastermind Jim Washburn is expected to be dismissed along with Andy Reid. The Eagles would be wise to get Brandon Graham as much playing time as possible over their final seven games.

Mon Oct 29 201208:30Jason Babin gets his snaps slashed
Eagles DE Jason Babin had his playing time slashed in Sunday's Week 8 loss to the Falcons.
Seven games into last season, Babin had nine sacks. This year, he has just 2.5 and the Eagles have seen enough. They decided to go with 2010 first-rounder Brandon Graham for the majority of the game opposite Trent Cole. IDP owners that haven't moved on from Babin yet can certainly do so now.
