Anderson signed with the Cowboys on Tuesday, replacing Henry Melton (knee) on the playoff roster.
This is Anderson's fourth team of the season, and he was most recently cut by the Falcons. In 2013, Anderson started all 16 games with the Bears, but he will simply offer depth for the Cowboys as long as they can stay alive this postseason.
Fri Nov 21 201409:15Anderson signed with Falcons on Thursday
Anderson signed with the Falcons on Thursday, D. Orlando Ledbetter of the Atlanta Journal-Constitution reports.

Sun Aug 24 201418:08Anderson released by Patriots

Wed Jun 4 201417:27Patriots sign LB Anderson, waive WR Harrison
Patriots signed LB James Anderson, formerly of the Bears, and waived WR Mark Harrison.
Anderson, 31 in September, led the Bears in tackles last season with 102 as a 16-game starter on the outside. He's his best as a coverage linebacker in nickel packages and should be on the field with LB Jamie Collins in passing situations for the Patriots. Harrison is a height-weight-speed specimen at 6-foot-3 and 231 pounds with 4.46 wheels. He should get a look somewhere this summer.

Sun May 25 201411:03Patriots worked out free agent LB Anderson
Free agent LB James Anderson worked out for the Patriots last week.
ESPN Boston believes Anderson could appeal to the Patriots due to his athleticism and ability to play in coverage. At 6-foot-2 and 235 pounds, Anderson was a big part of the Bears' nickel package last season. In New England, he'd be a role player after leading the Bears in tackles. The Patriots' current linebacker trio consists of SLB Donta' Hightower, MLB Jerod Mayo. and WLB Jamie Collins.

Tue Mar 12 201311:00Panthers cut veteran SLB James Anderson
Panthers will release LB James Anderson.
The cap-strapped Panthers are making some tough decisions. Although Anderson was due a relatively meager $2.9 million in 2013, he's entering his age-30 season and managed a mere 38 tackles in 12 games last season. Jon Beason is expected to kick to the strong-side linebacker spot now that Luke Kuechly is entrenched in the middle. The five-year, $22 million contract the Panthers gave Anderson in 2011 was another disaster from former GM Marty Hurney.

Thu Apr 12 201213:03Panthers expect more blitzing in 2012
Panthers SLB James Anderson expects the Carolina defensive to dial up more pressure in 2012.
It will be Sean McDermott's second year as defensive coordinator, and he comes from the blitz-heavy Jim Johnson school. "I'm quite sure when coach McDermott gets his whole, full system in, you'll see everybody going after the quarterback," said Anderson. McDermott only had about five weeks to install his defensive last season, after the lockout ended in late July.

Panthers coach Ron Rivera revealed that SLB James Anderson played the second half of the 2011 season with an ankle injury.
"He had that ankle that just constantly nagged him," Rivera said. "And every day he was out there practicing, doing the best he can. I really thought he stepped up in terms of his career." Anderson set a franchise record with 174 tackles, per coaches' film review, breaking MLB Jon Beason's mark of 169 set in 2009. Anderson will be a steal for his 2012 salary of $2.4 million.

Fri Nov 11 201109:30James Anderson rolls ankle in practice
Coach Ron River has "a little bit of a concern" after SLB James Anderson rolled his ankle in Thursday's practice.
Anderson was forced from practice, and the Panthers are already tissue-paper thin at linebacker. Rivera does believe Anderson, the team's leading tackler, will end up being "fine" for Sunday's game against the Titans.

Wed Jul 27 201116:51Panthers bring back James Anderson for 5 yrs
Panthers agreed to terms with SLB James Anderson on a five-year contract.
Anderson, who turns 28 early this season, is coming off a breakout campaign on the strong side under John Fox. The Panthers plan to be more aggressive under Ron Rivera and new coordinator Sean McDermott, and his return should particularly bode well for the team's run defense. Anderson is a high-impact linebacker. While there's no question they've overpaid in many instances, Carolina is going to be better than people think this year.

Wed Jul 20 201109:26Anderson wants to sign in three-day window
The player rep for free agent OLB James Anderson confirmed that his goal is to work out a deal with the Panthers during the three-day exclusive window for negotiations.
"James has expressed an interest to me to remain in Carolina. I'm going to do everything in my power with (GM) Marty (Hurney) to make that happen," the agent said. "Marty expressed prior to the lockout that James is a priority. We'll work over the 72 hours to try to get that done. Otherwise, we'll have many other suitors."

Tue Jul 19 201109:44James Anderson thinks Panthers will pay up
Free agent OLB James Anderson feels "pretty confident" that the Panthers will re-sign him after the lockout.
It sounds like Anderson is open to re-signing during the initial 72-hour window, which would be a nice plus for the Panthers. The 27-year-old is coming off a breakout season at strong-side linebacker and can also play the weak side.

Thu May 5 201114:48Anderson to stay on strong side for Panthers?
The Charlotte Observer expects James Anderson to be re-signed as the Panthers' starting strong-side linebacker.
Jon Beason is expected to remain in the middle, and new head coach Ron Rivera supposedly thinks as highly of free agent Thomas Davis on the weak side as GM Marty Hurney does. Stout run defender Dan Connor (hip surgery) appears headed back to a reserve role, though Rivera does figure to mix in more 3-4 looks.

Sat Feb 12 201110:19James Anderson won't be Panthers priority
The Panthers are not expected to make re-signing free agent SLB James Anderson an offseason priority.
Anderson, 27, was a beastly run defender last season, but the Panthers aren't expected to "overpay" for a strong-side linebacker. They also plan to keep free agent Thomas Davis, likely to play the weak side. Jon Beason would be the probable middle 'backer in that scenario, with Dan Connor manning SAM.

Panthers strong-side linebacker James Anderson leads the team in tackles through Week 9.
He ranks eighth in the NFL in tackles, and has emerged as more than just a backup linebacker. Anderson has a great chance for a big Week 9, as he's facing off against a New Orleans team he posted 15 tackles, a sack, a forced fumble, and two fumble recoveries against in Week 4.

Wed Aug 4 201008:41Anderson locked into strong-side gig
James Anderson is locked into the starting strong-side linebacker job.
The injury to Thomas Davis leaves Anderson with plenty of security as the Panthers had to shuffle their linebacking corps around. The weak-side is where the IDP production though, as Anderson will be asked to take on blockers more than make plays.

Wed May 26 201009:08Anderson runs with the first team
James Anderson was working with the first team as the Panthers strong-side linebacker at OTAs Tuesday.
Anderson is locked in a battle with Dan Connor for the starting gig. We like Connor to eventually emerge victorious as the better run stuffer, but this competition could go well into camp.
