Former Panthers K John Kasay retired.
Kasay, 43, joined Carolina ahead of their inaugural 1995 season and spent 15 of his 20 NFL seasons with the club. Wed Jul 25 201221:14Kasay behind Hartley entering camp?
Garrett Hartley is expected to enter training camp as the Saints' first-team kicker, with John Kasay "nipping on his heels."
Fully recovered from last year's hip injury, Hartley was "booting field goals with authority" in spring practices. The Saints have stayed with Hartley and his strong, accurate leg through several ups and downs. It's hard to imagine the 42-year-old Kasay winning this job unless Hartley gets a case of the "yips" in preseason action.

Saints agreed to terms with K John Kasay, formerly of the Panthers.
The 41-year-old Kasay must look spry compared to usual fall-back option John Carney. Kasay is being signed for insurance after Garrett Hartley came down with a hip tweak in Monday night's game. At this point, Hartley is not expected to miss regular-season action.

Wed Jul 27 201116:53Panthers set to release K John Kasay
Panthers informed K John Kasay of his impending release.
It's the end of an era in Carolina. Kasay is the only field goal kicker in Panthers history, starting out under Dom Capers in 1995. He's still an effective short field-goal artist, drilling at least 80 percent of his field goals in each of the past five seasons. Turning 42 in October, Kasay is expected to consider retirement. The Panthers are moving on from kickoff specialist Rhys Lloyd as well.

Kasay, who turned 41 in October, is under contract through 2012. He made 25-of-29 field goals this season, including 3-of-4 from 50-plus yards. He's still an exellent kicker, but the Panthers' offense limited his fantasy outlook.

Sun Oct 24 201019:46Kasay kicks Panthers to Week 7 victory
Panthers K John Kasay drilled all three field goals, including a game-winning 37-yarder with 29 seconds left, to give the Panthers their first win of the 2010 season.
The 40-year-old kicker also hit field goals of 47 and 55 yards in addition to two PATs. The Carolina offense looks more fluid with Matt Moore as opposed to Jimmy Clausen under center, which should translate to more opportunities for Kasay moving forward. His next game is an appealing matchup inside the Edward Jones Dome at St. Louis Week 8.
