Amaya was released by the Chiefs on Saturday, the team's official site reports.
Amaya was vying for a spot among a group of largely inexperienced safeties, but wasn't a surprise cut Sunday. He will either try to find a spot elsewhere or look for work on a team's practice squad.

Amaya has signed with the Chiefs, the Kansas City Star reports.
With the retirement of Steve Gregory, Amaya will add depth to a Chiefs' safety corps that also rosters Eric Berry, Husain Abdullah, Daniel Sorensen, Jerron McMillian and Malcolm Bronson.

Saints signed exclusive rights free agent S Jonathon Amaya to a one-year contract.
The Saints' fourth safety behind Roman Harper, Malcolm Jenkins, and Isa Abdiul-Quddus, Amaya was primarily a special teamer after coming over from Miami in the Reggie Bush trade.
