Brown finished 2014 with 20 carries for 63 yards and five receptions for 44 yards in a total of ten games played with Houston and San Diego.
When the Bolts got hit hard by injuries to their top three running backs, they brought back Brown, who had just been cut by the Texans. He served primarily as a third down option when he played, but he rarely got more than a couple of touches per game. San Diego might bring him back again in 2015, depending on what they do with Ryan Mathews, but Brown's upside is extremely limited at this stage of his career.

Brown is inactive for Sunday's game against the Raiders.
With the return of Ryan Mathews, Brown is the odd man out in the Chargers' Week 11 backfield.

Brown had one carry for eight yards and caught the lone pass thrown his way for two yards in relief of Branden Oliver on Thursday night in Denver.
Oliver dominated the touches in this game, racking up 13 mostly ineffective carries and catching seven passes. The Bolts faced a tough Denver defense and were trailing for much of the night, so the run game didn't really have a chance to get rolling. With Oliver clearly entrenched as the number one back now and Ryan Mathews and Donald Brown presumably not far from returning, Brown's value appears to be virtually non-existent.

Brown had two carries for two yards and caught one pass for one yard in Sunday's win at Oakland.
As expected, the Chargers relied heavily on Branden Olliver in this game, with Brown only spotting him on a few plays. The only interesting note is that the other newcomer, Shaughn Draughn, who has actually signed two weeks earlier, did not get a single touch. This probably says something about Brown's placement on the depth chart and the team's confidence in him as a former player.

Brown practiced in San Diego on Wednesday for the first time since rejoining the team he called home in 2012 an 2013 and is busy trying to reacquaint himself with the playbook and system, the San Diego Union-Tribune reports.
Brown is back in San Diego after getting cut by Houston earlier in the week. A rash of injuries to all three of the top Chargers running backs has the Bolts scrambling for able bodies, and Brown became available at exactly the right time for them. While some things have changed in the playbook since Brown was last a Bolt, he is certainly more familiar with the schemes and plays than any other back would be, and could immediately see action. With Donald Brown looking like he might miss this Sunday's game, Branden Oliver will get the bulk of the touches, but Brown and also Shaun Draughn will be in the mix in reserve roles.
Tue Oct 7 201418:31Ronnie Brown: Signs With Chargers
Brown signed with the Chargers on Tuesday, Adam Schefter reports.
Brown, who spent the 2012-13 seasons with San Diego, was brought back after Donald Brown suffered a concussion in Sunday's win over the Jets. Branden Oliver impressed in Week 5, totaling 182 yards and two touchdowns on 23 touches, and would presumably get most of the work against Oakland if Donald Brown does not get clearance in time to suit up for Week 6. That said, Ryan Mathews (knee) isn't expected back for another couple weeks, so Brown could see the backup work over Shaun Draughn.
Wed Oct 1 201409:35Ronnie Brown: Waived by the Texans
Brown was waived by the Texans on Wednesday, Mark Berman of MyFoxHouston.com reports.
The Texans' cutting of Brown would seem to suggest the team is confident in the health of top tailback Arian Foster, who played through a hamstring injury in last Sunday's win over the Bills. The Texans signed cornerback Jumal Rolle off the Packers' practice squad to fill Brown's spot on the 53-man roster.

Brown had six carries for three yards and caught one pass for nine yards in Saturday night's preseason win over Atlanta.
The veteran back was brought into camp after the Texans shook up their running back corps early in the week. He entered the game at the start of the third quarter along with backups and third-team players.
Mon Aug 11 201422:05Ronnie Brown: Signs With Texans
Brown agreed to terms with the Texans on Monday, John McClain of the Houston Chronicle reports.
Brown was signed Monday along with fellow running back William Powell, both of whom will compete for a job backing up starter Arian Foster. They'll have to go through both Jonathan Grimes and rookie Alfred Blue in order to work their way up the depth chart. Brown has carried the ball 1,261 times over nine NFL season, but the Texans believe he has enough left in the tank to serve as a quality backup in 2014.
Wed May 21 201413:23FA RB Ronnie Brown works out for Patriots
Free agent Ronnie Brown worked out for the Patriots this week.
Joining Brown were TE Nate Byham, TE Ben Hartsock, and RB Brian Leonard. It's the first we've heard of Brown since the Chargers' season came to a close with a loss to Denver in January. Brown can still be a valuable third-down back, but he's 32. He averaged 3.5 YPC on 45 totes in 2013, reeling in eight passes.

Sun Jan 5 201416:42Ronnie Brown stars in Chargers playoff win
Ronnie Brown rushed eight times for 77 yards and a touchdown and caught a nine-yard pass in San Diego's Wild Card win over Cincinnati.
After operating as San Diego's No. 3 back behind Ryan Mathews and Danny Woodhead early in the game, Brown's role grew when Mathews aggravated an ankle injury in the third quarter. Brown's nine all-purpose touches were his most in a game since early November. The 32-year-old's 58-yard touchdown run in the fourth was the icer as San Diego won Sunday's contest going away. Unless Mathews' ankle injury proves severe, Brown's role is sure to be far smaller in next week's Divisional Round at Denver.

Sun Nov 24 201317:11Ronnie Brown fills in for Mathews late
Ronnie Brown rushed six times for 23 yards in Sunday's Week 12 win at Kansas City.
Brown came on as the early-down complement after Ryan Mathews' third-quarter hamstring injury. Predictably, he did not impress. At age 31, Brown lacks the burst necessary to get chunks of yardage in the NFL. He'd be a poor flex bet against the Bengals in Week 13 even if Mathews sits.

Sun Nov 10 201320:51Ronnie Brown gets nine carries in loss
Ronnie Brown rushed nine times for 36 yards in San Diego's Week 10 loss to the Broncos.
Brown got a little more run than usual because Ryan Mathews missed a majority of the first quarter with an undisclosed injury. Brown entered Week 10 with just five touches over the Chargers' past three games. He isn't a viable fantasy option in any format.

Sun Oct 20 201316:27Ronnie Brown held to 14 yards in Week 7
Chargers RB Ronnie Brown rushed three times for 14 yards in San Diego's Week 7 win over Jacksonville.
He was not involved in the passing game. Lacking fantasy value, Brown is San Diego's No. 3 tailback behind Danny Woodhead and Ryan Mathews.

Mon Oct 7 201303:19Ronnie Brown gets 10 touches in Week 5
Ronnie Brown rushed seven times for 11 yards in Sunday night's Week 5 loss to Oakland.
Brown assumed early down and short-yardage work with Ryan Mathews (concussion) sidelined. He added three catches for 21 yards, but struggled on his limited touches. Even if Mathews isn't cleared for Week 6, Brown won't be on the fantasy radar.

Sun Sep 15 201318:12Ronnie Brown settles into No. 3 RB role
Ronnie Brown rushed three times for 15 yards and caught one pass for three yards in Sunday's Week 2 win over the Eagles.
A week after leading the Chargers RBs in snaps, Brown was the clear-cut No. 3 back. It's the right move by the Chargers. Danny Woodhead is a better receiver and better in blitz pickup. Brown shouldn't be on any fantasy rosters.

Tue Sep 10 201313:22Ronnie Brown leads Bolts RBs in snaps Monday
Ronnie Brown led the Chargers' running backs in snaps in Monday night's loss.
Per Pro Football Focus, Brown played 25 snaps to Ryan Mathews' 20, and Danny Woodhead's 10. Mathews notched 15 touches compared to just seven for Brown and two for Woodhead, but the snap counts are further proof of how much more the Bolts trust Brown in pass protection. Although Brown is off the fantasy radar, he greatly curbs Mathews' upside.

Sun Aug 25 201301:19Brown rushes for nine yards on two carries
Ronnie Brown rushed for nine yards on two carries in Saturday's preseason game.
Brown was used sparingly behind Ryan Mathews and Danny Woodhead and finished with just 11 total yards. He continues to be outplayed by Fozzy Whittaker and remains squarely on the roster bubble.

Sat Aug 17 201320:25Ronnie Brown on roster bubble
The Union-Tribune San Diego considers Ronnie Brown on the roster bubble.
Brown has barely seen the field this preseason and is expendable with Danny Woodhead as the Chargers' primary third-down back. Fozzy Whittaker played with the second team during Thursday's preseason game and will continue to push him for a roster spot.

Fri Mar 15 201317:16Chargers re-up with veteran Ronnie Brown
Chargers re-signed RB Ronnie Brown.
No third-down touches for you, Ryan Mathews. With Danny Woodhead's signing and Brown back in the fold, Mathews will almost certainly be a two-down back. Both Woodhead and Brown are solid pass catchers, and Brown can pick up a blitz. Brown, 31, caught a career-high 49 passes for 371 yards out of the backfield in 2012.
