Mon Jul 9 201214:45Bobby Carpenter guaranteed a roster spot
The Boston Herald believes LB Bobby Carpenter will have to fight with Jeff Tarpinian and Tracy White for a roster spot.
Beat writer Jeff Howe admits it's "become clear" that Carpenter has a supporter in coach Bill Belichick, but believes at least one of Carpenter, Tarpinian and White won't make the 53-man roster. Carpenter was talked up as a potential starter in Detroit last season before ultimately playing just 261 snaps. He holds little value outside of coverage.

Sun Jul 1 201210:10Pats' Carpenter competing for starting job
Bobby Carpenter is in the mix for the Patriots' starting strong-side linebacker job.
Carpenter has seen "a lot of playing time" during the offseason practices and is competing with Dont'a Hightower for a starting gig. With Rob Ninkovich also in the mix, the better bet is for Carpenter to work as a backup at both outside positions and do his damage in coverage in nickel formations.

The Lions are "hopeful but not holding their breath" on re-signing LB Bobby Carpenter.

Sat Jul 9 201112:16Bobby Carpenter could start for Lions
According to the Detroit News, the Lions expect free agent Bobby Carpenter to compete for a starting outside linebacker job in camp if he's re-signed.
The assumption is that Carpenter will indeed be back with the Lions, who signed him last October despite there being plenty of evidence to suggest he's simply never going to be an effective NFL player. If he somehow earns a starting job, he won't be a factor in IDP leagues.

Lions extended a restricted free agent tender to OLB Bobby Carpenter before the March 3 deadline.
Carpenter is a five-year veteran. The Lions seem to hold him in higher esteem than the rest of the league, so he's returning to Detroit regardless. Depending on the Lions' draft and free agency, Carpenter could end up competing for a starting job.

Mon Feb 21 201108:43Carpenter not viewed as a starter
The Detroit News confirms that the Lions do not view Bobby Carpenter as a full-time starter at outside linebacker.
The Lions are well aware of Carpenter's limitations and it's not a coincidence that the 2006 first-round pick has been dumped by three separate teams already. They need to make outside linebacker a priority this offseason with Julian Peterson gone and Zach Follett (neck) in doubt.

Jets' special teams coach Mike Westhoff claims that LB Bobby Carpenter cost Dolphins' ST coach John Bonamego his job after dreadful special teams play in Monday Night's Week 5 loss to New England.

Mon Sep 13 201010:17Carpenter starts over Dobbins
Bobby Carpenter started at inside linebacker over Tim Dobbins and played the majority of snaps Sunday.
Carpenter was just signed by the Dolphins last Monday, so this came out of nowhere. He recorded just one tackle however, as the Bills went pass-heavy. Channing Crowder (leg) should get the job back once healthy.

Mon Sep 6 201013:55Dolphins sign Bobby Carpenter
Dolphins signed ILB Bobby Carpenter, formerly of the Rams.
The Fins initially hoped rookie A.J. Edds would be their nickel 'backer, but Carpenter can fill the role behind Karlos Dansby and Channing Crowder. Dansby isn't going to come off the field, so Carpenter will likely replace Crowder in passing situations once he gets up to speed in the defense. It won't take long, as Carpenter played in a similar scheme with the Cowboys.
Sun Sep 5 201010:09Cowboys could eye Carpenter
Tim MacMahon of ESPNDallas.com wonders if the Cowboys should call recently cut LB Bobby Carpenter.
Carpenter would slide into the nickel/dime job, a role he played last season. This is clearly MacMahon thinking out loud, but the move would make sense. Look for the Cowboys 53-man to change before Week 1.
