Tue Oct 13 201510:06Fells (ankle) unlikely to play in NFL again
Fells (ankle) is unlikely to play in the NFL again, Ralph Vacchiano of the New York Daily News reports.
Fells has already undergone five surgeries on his foot to fight an MRSA infection. He's been in the hospital since Oct. 2 and may need to stay a while longer. Fortunately, he's been doing much better the last few days, after his doctors found a combination of antibiotics that worked.

Fells will be placed on injured reserve after developing a staph infection on his chronically-injured ankle, NJ.com reports.
Fells recently underwent surgery to help correct his chronic condition, causing him to miss Week 4 and leave the Giants without one of their top tight ends moving forward. With Fells unavailable, starter Larry Donnell could see his role expanded, while Jerome Cunningham (knee) and Will Tye compete for backup snaps.
Mon Oct 5 201509:58Fells will likely be placed on IR
Fells, who underwent unexpected foot surgery this week, will likely be placed on IR, NFL.com's Ian Rapaport reports.
Fells did not travel with the Giants for their Week 4 contest against the Bills, and it appears he could be out for an extended period of time following the foot surgery. As the team's No. 2 tight end, Fells saw plenty of snaps this season when healthy as Larry Donnell's backup. Donnell will likely receive a more prominent role in Fells' absence, along with Jerome Cunningham (knee) and Will Tye providing additional depth.
Sun Oct 4 201511:31Fells (ankle) inactive for Sunday's game against Bills
Fells (ankle) is inactive for Sunday's game against the Bills.
Fells didn't even travel with the team for this contest, so it's no surprise to see him sit this one out. With fellow tight end Jerome Cunningham (knee) also on the shelf, the Giants will likely lean heavily towards Larry Donnell when it comes to tight end targets. Will Tye, who was promoted from the practice squad Saturday, may also have a role.

Fells (ankle) did not travel with the team to Buffalo and is likely out for Sunday's game, Ralph Vacchiano of the New York Daily News reports.
With Fells likely inactive against the Bills, Larry Donnell could see a boost in targets in what should be a high-volume passing game for the Giants. With backup tight end Jerome Cunningham also unable to travel with the team, New York was forced to call up Will Tye from the practice squad, however it's unlikely he will cut into Donnell's opportunities come Sunday.

Fells (ankle) is listed as questionable for Sunday's game in Buffalo.
In the two games he's played so far, Fells saw nearly as many snaps as Larry Donnell, who nonetheless remains the preferred fantasy option among Big Blue's tight ends. Neither player offers much season-long upside, but Donnell does get a temporary boost if Fells can't play Sunday, in what could be a heavy volume game for QB Eli Manning.
Thu Oct 1 201511:37Fells (ankle) won't practice Thursday
Fells (ankle) won't practice Thursday, Ralph Vacchiano of the New York Daily News reports.
The report relays that coach Tom Coughlin sounded optimistic that the tight end will play Sunday against the Bills, though of course such an outcome presumably hinges on Fells practicing in some capacity Friday.
Wed Sep 30 201515:41Fells did not practice Wednesday due to ankle injury
Fells did not practice Wednesday due to an ankle injury.
Coach Tom Coughlin made some remarks that seem optimistic about Fells playing Sunday against the Bills, but we'll see if he's able to practice Thursday or Friday. Through three games, Fells has a 6/60/0 line compared to Larry Donnell's 10/81/1 production.
Thu Sep 24 201519:07Fells (foot) active for Thursday's game against Redskins
Fells (foot) is active for Thursday's game against the Redskins.
Fells played 32 snaps to Larry Donnell's 44 in Week 1, then missed Week 2 against the Falcons. The snaps won't necessarily be divided the same way Thursday night, but Fells at least figures to have a role as the No. 2 tight end.
Wed Sep 23 201518:20Daniel Fells: (Foot) Probable For Thursday
Fells (foot) is listed as probable for Thursday's game versus Washington, Mike Jones of the Washington Post reports.
Fells donned street clothes in Week 2 but is prepared to take the field Thursday following back-to-back full practices. Expect him to work in tandem with fellow tight end Larry Donnell, though it remains to be seen if their breakdown of snaps in the regular season opener (44 for Donnell to Fells' 32) will be the norm going forward.
Tue Sep 22 201515:06Fells (foot) full participant in Tuesday's practice
Fells (foot) was a full participant in Tuesday's practice.
Fells thus seems likely to return for Thursday's game against the Redskins, after sitting out in Week 2 against the Falcons. He split snaps with Larry Donnell in Week 1, but it remains to be seen how the snaps and targets will be divided in the coming weeks. Donnell did score a touchdown against the Falcons, but he only caught four passes for 28 yards on six targets.
Mon Sep 21 201518:21Fells (foot) would have been limited Monday
Fells (foot) would have been limited Monday, if the Giants had held practice, Ralph Vacchiano of the New York Daily News reports.
Fells took a seat in Week 2 due to a foot issue, but his potential presence at practice Monday is a step in the right direction to active status Thursday versus Washington. If he plays in Week 3, it remains to be seen how the tight-end reps will break down. However, in the regular season opener, Fells split snaps with Larry Donnell, hauling in three of four passes for 33 yards.
Fri Sep 18 201514:03Fells (foot) out for Sunday's game against Falcons
Fells (foot) is out for Sunday's game against the Falcons, Newsday's Tom Rock reports.
Fells split snaps with Larry Donnell in Week 1, catching three passes for 33 yards on four targets. Donnell thus gets a boost in Fells' absence, though targets may still be hard to come by.
Thu Sep 17 201511:40Fells (foot) will not practice on Thursday
Fells (foot) will not practice on Thursday, Jordan Raanan of the New Jersey Advanced Media reports.
He appears to be doing better as he was seen without a walking boot prior to the announcement, however, he should be considered day-to-day moving forward. If Fells misses any time, Larry Donnell could benefit the most --- he and Fells each received four targets a piece, but the latter outgained Donnell against the Cowboys.
Wed Sep 16 201512:53Fells (foot) didn't take part in practice Wednesday
Fells (foot) didn't take part in practice Wednesday, Art Stapleton of The Record reports.
In Week 1, Fells split reps with Larry Donnell, with the tight ends receiving four targets apiece. While the duo both hauled in three catches, Fells outgained Donnell 33 to 21 yards. Fells is dealing with a foot injury, though, which could tip the balance of their timeshare within the Giants' offense.

Fells caught three passes for 33 yards on four targets in Sunday's game against the Cowboys.
Fells split playing time with Larry Donnell, who had three catches for 21 yards on four targets. There may eventually be some mid-to-deep-league value if one of the two locks down a more regular role, but the situation should be avoided so long as the two are sharing snaps. Although neither offers much upside as a receiver, Donnell does have a combination of size (6-6, 265) and good hands that could allow him be successful in the red zone.

Fells was listed ahead of Larry Donnell on the team's tight end depth chart, the Newark Star-Ledger reports.
Regardless of who's listed where, once Donnell's healthy he's a better bet than Fells to get the bulk of the team's targets from the position.
Wed Mar 18 201517:54Fells has signed one-year deal to return to Giants
Fells has signed a one-year deal to return to the Giants, the Daily News reports.
Fells, who caught 16 passes for 188 yards and four TDs this past season, brings valuable experience and blocking skills to the table for the Giants, whose TE corps also includes Larry Donnell and Adrien Robinson. That said, Fells' limited targets cap his fantasy upside, despite his occasional trips to the end zone.
Mon Oct 20 201401:07Fells caught only target Sunday, 27-yard TD pass
Fells caught his only target Sunday, a 27-yard TD pass.
Larry Donnell is the starter, but Donnell fumbled twice, so Fells' role could grow slightly should Donnell wind up in Tom Coughlin's doghouse. Fells is a journeyman who's never caught more than 41 passes in a season, though, so his ceiling is limited.

Fells caught both of his targets for eight yards and a touchdown in Thursday's 45-14 win over the Redskins.
Fells found the end zone for the second straight week, but he's still just the No. 2 tight end in an offense that's home to breakout player Larry Donnell, who scored three touchdowns of his own Thursday.
